Compiler Assisted Cache Prefetch Using Procedure Call Hierarchy

    Get PDF
Microprocessor performance has been increasing at an exponential rate while memory system performance improved at a linear rate. This widening difference in performances is increasingly rendering advances in computer architecture less useful as more instructions spend more time waiting for data to be fetched from the memory after a cache miss. Data prefetching is a technique that avoids some cache misses by bringing data into the cache before it is actually needed. Different approaches to data prefetching have been developed, however existing prefetch schemes do not eliminate all cache misses and even with smaller cache miss ratio, miss latency remains an important performance limiter. In this thesis, we propose a technique called Compiler Assisted Cache Prefetch Using Procedure Call Hierarchy (CAPPH). It is a hardware-software prefetch technique that uses a compiler to provide information pertaining to data structure layout, data-flow and procedure-call hierarchy of the program to a mechanism that prefetches linked data structures (LDS). It can prefetch data for procedures even before they are called by using this statically generated information. It is also capable of issuing prefetches for recursive functions that access LDS and arbitrary access sequences which are otherwise difficult to prefetch. The scheme is simulated using RSIML, a SPARC v8 simulator. Benchmarks em3d, health and mst from the Olden suite were used. The scheme was compared with an otherwise identical system with no prefetch and one using sequential prefetch. Simulations were performed to measure CAPPH performance and the decrease in the miss ratio of loads accessing LDS. Statistics of individual loads were collected, and accuracy, coverage and timeliness were measured against varying cache size and latency. Results from individual loads accessing linked data structures show considerable decrease in their miss ratios and average access times. CAPPH is found to be more accurate than sequential prefetch. The coverage and timeliness are lower in CAPPH than in sequential prefetch. We suggest heuristics to further enhance the effectiveness of the prefetch technique

Vaginal Itching / vaginal pruritus / Yonikandu is the most primary symptom observed in any medical condition of female genitals and the most frequent reason for patients to visit gynecologists. Although the treatment includes use of anti-microbials majorly, it may show unsatisfactory results due to resistance of these drugs and its side effects. Use of topical anti-microbial drug therapy is recommended by many; at times patients likely develop some common side effects like abnormal peeling of skin, inflammation, rashes or some rare side effects like bluish discoloration of the skin. To avoid these experiences one of the traditional approaches of treatment i.e. Lepa Kalpana is recommended for topical drug therapy in Yonikandu. The Ayurvedic drugs mentioned in this formulation and most commonly found around us. The raw materials of Yonikanduhara Lepa[1] mentioned in this herbo-mineral formulation included - Haridra, Vidanga, Aamrabeeja, Khadira, Daruharidra, Godugdha, Goghrita, Gairika and water. The current study focuses to gather review of contents of Yonikanduhara Lepa mentioned in classical texts of Ayurveda

Objective: The aim of this work was to develop triple action controlled release anti-reflux suspension of ranitidine and its in-vitro evaluation of anti-reflux and controlled release properties. Methods: The formulation was optimized using sodium alginate as a gelling agent along with calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium hydroxide, aluminium hydroxide as alkalizing agents and colloidal microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) as a suspending agent at various concentrations and arrived at an optimized formulation for its best quality attributes. To avoid initial release in water before administration, ranitidine coated MCC sphere was incorporated into powder formulation and subjected to in vitro characteristics like raft strength, acid neutralizing capacity, pH, viscosity and dissolution study. The obtained results were assessed using Minitab 17 statistical software to conclude the study design. Results: Formulation containing 300 mg of ranitidine along with 750 mg alginate has shown better anti-reflux characteristics like raft strength 18±2g, acid neutralizing capacity 17±1 mEq compared to other formulations. This formulation has also shows zero-order controlled release in the simulated gastric fluid (SGF) up to 10 h compared to the formulation without alginate. Further, to this optimized formulation has shown negligible change in the assay of ranitidine even after 3 mo at 40 °C temperature and 75% RH. Conclusion: The developed stable sustained release powder for suspension has the combined therapeutic efficacy as an antacid and anti-reflux drug suitable for the management and treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) unlike the existing drugs possessing only reflux resistance action

A pre experimental study to assess the effectiveness of computer aided instruction (CAI) on knowledge and expressed practice of lactation management among primi mothers was undertaken by Mrs. A.Sheela Margaret in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of master science in Nursing under Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Chennai. OBJECTIVES 1. To determine the level of knowledge regarding lactation management before and after CAI. 2. To determine the expressed practice on lactation management before and after CAI. 3. To determine the relationship between knowledge and expressed practice on lactation management among primimothers. 4. To determine the association between knowledge on lactation management with selected background variables. 5. To determine the association between expressed practice on lactation management with selected background variables. 6. Conceptual Frame Work : Rosen Stoch’s Health Belief Model. Research Design : Pre experimental design O1 x O2 Population / Sample : Primimothers. Sample Size : 30 Primimothers. Sampling : Non probability convenience sampling. Setting : Jagatha Maternity Hospital, Trichy. Tool : Knoweledge and expressed questionnaire. Data Collection Pretest was given for 30 minutes to each primimothers and CAI was given to participants for 45 minutes. The investigator had completed 2-3 samples daily and after delivery posttest was conducted to assess the knowledge and expressed practice. Data Analysis Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (paired ‘t’ test and chi square test) was used to test the research hypothesis. Major Finding The mean post test level of knowledge is higher than mean pre test level of knowledge. The mean post test level of expressed practice higher than mean pre test level of expressed practice. There is a significant positive correlation between knowledge and expressed practice of primimothers regarding lactation management in post test. Significant association found between the background variable family income and the post test level of knowledge. Significant association found between the background variable age and the post test level of expressed practice . Conclusion The study showed that CAI was effective in increasing the knowledge and expressed practice of primimothers regarding lactation management. There was a positive correlation between the pretest and post test level of knowledge and expressed practice. Though lactation problems are easily preventable and treatable it is an important function of the nurse administrator and the village health nurse to conduct periodic survey among the primimothers and help them to reduce the mortality and morbidity among infants and promoting wellbing among them

Fatwa prohibits surrogacy agreements for the Muslims in Malaysia. The legal stand for non-Muslims is left in silence, whereas surrogacy raises issues concerning women and children that necessitate legal attention. Regulative measures are imminent to regulate issues arising in a surrogate arrangement. Malaysia has yet to report of any surrogacy cases. Thus, this article analyses decided cases from other countries that have gained international attention to synthesize issues arising in surrogacy arrangements. Based on the case study analysis, this article discourses areas that regulation should encroach specifically to safeguard the welfare and safety of women and children.  Keywords: Surrogacy, Conundrum, Welfare, Fatwa. eISSN: 2398-4287© 2020.
