J06587-5558 -- A Very Unusual Polarised Radio Source
We have found a peculiar radio source in the field of one of the hottest
known clusters of galaxies 1E0657-56. It is slightly extended, highly polarised
(54% at 8.8GHz) and has a very steep spectrum, with alpha ~ -1 at 1.3 GHz,
steepening to ~ -1.5 at 8.8GHz (S \propto nu^alpha). No extragalactic sources
are known with such high integrated polarisation, and sources with spectra as
steep as this are rare. In this paper, we report the unusual properties of the

Obtaining Highway Engineering Services from Professional Engineers in Private Practice
Current state highway department procedures for obtaining private professional engineering services are reviewed and summarized as part of a study of the consulting engineering contracting policy and procedures of the Kentucky Department of Highways. The current bases used by state highway departments for establishment of fees for the professional services of Engineering Consultants, Attorneys, Right-of-Way Appraisers, Right-of-Way Buyers, and Architects are summarized, by state, in Table 1. In general, the consulting engineering contracting practices followed in Kentucky were found to be a combination of the most desirable points of procedure represented in the replies received from other state highway departments and recommended by the Bureau of Public Roads and the professional societies. The recommendations include a Statement of Consulting Engineering Contracting Policy and Procedures which, except for noted revisions, is a restatement of Kentucky Department of Highways Official Order No. 73646, Consulting Engineering Contract Procedures, dated March 2, 1965

The Keck/OSIRIS Nearby AGN Survey (KONA) I. The Nuclear K-band Properties of Nearby AGN
We introduce the Keck Osiris Nearby AGN survey (KONA), a new adaptive
optics-assisted integral-field spectroscopic survey of Seyfert galaxies. KONA
permits at ~0.1" resolution a detailed study of the nuclear kinematic structure
of gas and stars in a representative sample of 40 local bona fide active
galactic nucleus (AGN). KONA seeks to characterize the physical processes
responsible for the coevolution of supermassive black holes and galaxies,
principally inflows and outflows. With these IFU data of the nuclear regions of
40 Seyfert galaxies, the KONA survey will be able to study, for the first time,
a number of key topics with meaningful statistics. In this paper we study the
nuclear K-band properties of nearby AGN. We find that the luminosities of the
unresolved Seyfert 1 sources at 2.1 microns are correlated with the hard X-ray
luminosities, implying that the majority of the emission is non-stellar. The
best-fit correlation is logLK = 0.9logL2-10 keV + 4 over 3 orders of magnitude
in both K-band and X-ray luminosities. We find no strong correlation between
2.1 microns luminosity and hard X-ray luminosity for the Seyfert 2 galaxies.
The spatial extent and spectral slope of the Seyfert 2 galaxies indicate the
presence of nuclear star formation and attenuating material (gas and dust),
which in some cases is compact and in some galaxies extended. We detect
coronal-line emission in 36 galaxies and for the first time in five galaxies.
Finally, we find 4/20 galaxies that are optically classified as Seyfert 2 show
broad emission lines in the near-IR, and one galaxy (NGC 7465) shows evidence

Organometallic mediated radical polymerization
Controlled radical polymerization has become increasingly important over the past decade and a half, allowing for the facile synthesis of specific macromolecular architectures with excellent control over the chemical and physical properties. This article presents an organized and detailed review of one particular CRP technique, organometallic mediated radical polymerization (OMRP), focusing on the individual catalysts developed, their efficacy and monomer scope. Rhodium, cobalt, molybdenum, osmium, iron, palladium, titanium, chromium and vanadium mediated radical polymerizations are presented alongside organo-main group mediated reactions. A separate section reviews the types of copolymers which have been synthesized using OMRP techniques. An attempt is made to unify the many disparate names which have previously been used for OMRP by virtue of the common mechanistic aspects displayed by the different catalyst systems. A mechanistic discussion highlights the similarities and differences between these systems and examines the interplay between reversible termination and degenerative transfer OMRP and competing 1-electron redox processes

This event list is a comprehensive reference for all Hard X ray bursts detected with the Hard X Ray Burst Spectrometer on the Solar Maximum Mission from the time of launch on Feb. 14, 1980 to the end of the mission in Dec. 1989. Some 12,776 events were detected in the energy range 30 to 600 keV with the vast majority being solar flares. This list includes the start time, peak time, duration, and peak rate of each event
Issues for the Next Generation of Galaxy Surveys
I argue that the weight of the available evidence favours the conclusions
that galaxies are unbiased tracers of mass, the mean mass density (excluding a
cosmological constant or its equivalent) is less than the critical Einstein-de
Sitter value, and an isocurvature model for structure formation offers a viable
and arguably attractive model for the early assembly of galaxies. If valid
these conclusions complicate our work of adding structure formation to the
standard model for cosmology, but it seems sensible to pay attention to

Food storage facilitates professional religious specialization in hunter–gatherer societies
Professional religious specialists centralised religious authority in early human societies and represented some of the earliest instances of formalised social leadership. These individuals played a central role in the emergence of organised religion and transitions to more stratified human societies. Evolutionary theories highlight a range of environmental, economic and social factors that are potentially causally related to the emergence of professional religious specialists in human history. There remains little consensus over the relative importance of these factors and whether professional religious specialists were the outcome or driver of increased socio-cultural complexity. We built a global dataset of hunter–gatherer societies and developed a novel method of exploratory phylogenetic path analysis. This enabled us to systematically identify the factors associated with the emergence of professional religious specialists and infer the directionality of causal dependencies. We find that environmental predictability, environmental richness, pathogen load, social leadership and food storage systems are all correlated with professional religious specialists. However, only food storage is directly related to the emergence of professional religious specialists. Our findings are most consistent with the claim that the early stages of organised religion were the outcome rather than driver of increased socio-economic complexity.Introduction Methods and results Conclusio
