Spacelab 3 flight experiment No. 3AFT23: Autogenic-feedback training as a preventive method for space adaptation syndrome
Space adaptation syndrome is a motion sickness-like disorder which affects up to 50 percent of all people exposed to microgravity in space. This experiment tested a physiological conditioning procedure (Autogenic-Feedback Training, AFT) as an alternative to pharmacological management. Four astronauts participated as subjects in this experiment. Crewmembers A and B served as treatment subjects. Both received preflight training for control of heart rate, respiration rate, peripheral blood volume, and skin conductance. Crewmembers C and D served as controls (i.e., did not receive training). Crewmember A showed reliable control of his own physiological responses, and a significant increase in motion sickness tolerance after training. Crewmember B, however, demonstrated much less control and only a moderate increase in motion sickness tolerance was observed after training. The inflight symptom reports and physiological data recordings revealed that Crewmember A did not experience any severe symptom episodes during the mission, while Crewmember B reported one severe symptom episode. Both control group subjects, C and D (who took antimotion sickness medication), reported multiple symptom episodes on mission day 0. Both inflight data and crew reports indicate that AFT may be an effective countermeasure. Additional data must be obtained inflight (a total of eight treatment and eight control subjects) before final evaluation of this treatment can be made
Autogenic-feedback training: A preventive method for space adaptation syndrome
The progress made to date on the reduction of data for Spacelab 3 Shuttle experiment, No. 3AFT23 is reported. Four astronauts participated as subjects in this experiment. Crewmen A and B served as treatment subjects (i.e., received preflight training for control of their own motion sickness symptoms) and Crewmen C and D served as control (i.e., did not receive training). A preliminary evaluation of Autogenic Feedback Training (AFT) was made from visual inspections of graphs that were generated from the preflight and inflight and inflight physiological data which included: (1) Baseline rotating chair tests for all crewmen; (2) Posttraining rotating chair tests of treatment groups subjects; (3) Preflight data from Joint Integrated Simulations for all crewmen; and (4) Flight data for all crewmen during mission days 0 through 4, and mission day 6 for treatment subjects only. A summary of the findings suggested by these data is outlined
Are we all on course? A curriculum mapping comparison of three australian university open-access enabling programs.

The curricula in higher education not only provides guidance and direction for students, but aligns with industry standards to safeguard quality offerings in specific programs. While there has been increasing focus on the importance of the curriculum particularly for first year university students, very little is known about the curriculum and design principles that exist in open-access enabling programs in Australia. In the following paper, a comprehensive examination of the curriculum of three large open-access enabling programs is presented. The research team explored the curriculum design via a rigorous mapping exercise to establish potential principles to guide enabling curriculum design. In developing the curriculum-mapping tool for this research project, it became apparent that limited attention has been given to enabling curriculum design in the academic literature. Given increasing attention towards Australian enabling education, the findings of this study emphasise the importance of clarity between the intended and the enacted curriculum, such as in unit learning outcomes and program attributes
Alvin titanium electrical penetrator design, manufacture, and testing : interim report
Under the U.S. Navy's Project TITANES a new titanium alloy
pressure hull has been designed, built, and installed for
use in the deep-submersible ALVIN. The Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution was assigned the task of designing,
procuring and testing the through-hull electrical penetrators
for the new sphere. This interim report traces
the progress of this Woods Hole program from the initial
design stage, through the various phases of manufacture
and electrical testing, to the installation of the units
in the completed hull, and the numerous laboratory~ pressure
tank, and at-sea tests conducted to verify the satisfactory
performance of the new penetrators. The results of all laboratory
and in-service testing done to date support the conclusion
that the performance of the titanium penetrators

Looming struggles over technology for border control
New technologies under development, capable of inflicting pain on masses of people, could be used for border control against asylum seekers. Implementation might be rationalized by the threat of mass migration due to climate change, nuclear disaster or exaggerated fears of refugees created by governments. We focus on taser anti-personnel mines, suggesting both technological countermeasures and ways of making the use of such technology politically counterproductive. We also outline several other types of ‘non-lethal’ technology that could be used for border control and raise human rights concerns: high-powered microwaves, armed robots, wireless tasers, acoustic devices/vortex rings, ionizing and pulsed energy lasers, chemical calmatives, convulsants, bioregulators and malodurants. Whether all these possible border technologies will be implemented is a matter for speculation, but their serious human rights implications warrant advance scrutiny

Dynamic Analysis of Double Wishbone Front Suspension Systems for Sport Motorcycles
In this paper, two alternative front suspension systems and their influence on motorcycle dynamics are investigated. Based on an existing motorcycle mathematical model, the front end is modified to accommodate both Girder and Hossack suspension systems. Both of them have in common a double wishbone design that varies the front end geometry on certain manoeuvrings and, consequently, the machine’s behaviour. The kinematics of the two systems and their impact on the motorcycle performance is analysed and compared to the well known telescopic fork suspension system. Stability study for both systems is carried out by means of root-loci methods, in which the main oscillation modes, weave and wobble, are studied and compared to the baseline model
The influence of emotional reaction on help seeking by victims of school bullying
Research has started to focus on how victims of school bullying cope, but there is still very little understanding if why pupils cope in one way and not another. This paper aimed to examine the effects of gender, school-stage, frequency of victimization and different emotions (anger, vengeance, self-pity, indifference, and helplessness) upon the choice of social support that children report using. Questionnaires were completed by 6282 Maltese schoolchildren aged between 9 and 14 years old. Analyses revealed that specific patterns of emotion and victimization predict whether pupils report using certain sources of social support. Results are discussed in relation to their relevance for possible intervention, future research needs and implications for the theoretical framework used
\epsilon-regularity for systems involving non-local, antisymmetric operators
We prove an epsilon-regularity theorem for critical and super-critical
systems with a non-local antisymmetric operator on the right-hand side.
These systems contain as special cases, Euler-Lagrange equations of
conformally invariant variational functionals as Rivi\`ere treated them, and
also Euler-Lagrange equations of fractional harmonic maps introduced by Da
Lio-Rivi\`ere.
In particular, the arguments presented here give new and uniform proofs of
the regularity results by Rivi\`ere, Rivi\`ere-Struwe, Da-Lio-Rivi\`ere, and
also the integrability results by Sharp-Topping and Sharp, not discriminating
between the classical local, and the non-local situations
