First steps towards total reality of meromorphic functions
It was earlier conjectured by the second and the third authors that any
rational curve such that the inverse
images of all its flattening points lie on the real line is real algebraic up to a linear fractional transformation of
the image . (By a flattening point on we mean a point
at which the Frenet -frame is degenerate.) Below we
extend this conjecture to the case of meromorphic functions on real algebraic
curves of higher genera and settle it for meromorphic functions of degrees
and several other cases.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figur
On total reality of meromorphic functions
We show that if a meromorphic function of degree at most four on a real
algebraic curve of an arbitrary genus has only real critical points then it is
conjugate to a real meromorphic function after a suitable projective
automorphism of the image.Comment: 13 page
Incomplete Photonic Bandgap as Inferred from the Speckle Pattern of Scattered Light Waves
Motivated by recent experiments on intensity correlations of the waves
transmitted through disordered media, we demonstrate that the speckle pattern
from disordered photonic crystal with incomplete band-gap represents a
sensitive tool for determination the stop-band width. We establish the
quantitative relation between this width and the {\em angualar anisotropy} of
the intensity correlation function.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Complete transfer of populations from a single state to a pre-selected superposition of states using Piecewise Adiabatic Passage
We develop a method for executing robust and selective transfer of
populations between a single level and pre-selected superpositions of energy
eigenstates. Viewed in the frequency domain, our method amounts to executing a
series of simultaneous adiabatic passages into each component of the target
superposition state. Viewed in {the} time domain, the method works by
accumulating the wavefunction of the target wave packet as it revisits the
Franck Condon region, in what amounts to an extension of the Piecewise
Adiabatic Passage technique [ Shapiro et.al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 033002
(2007)] to the multi-state regime. The viability of the method is verified by
performing numerical tests for the Na_2 molecule.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Participation of the hypophyseal-adrenal cortex system in thrombin clearance during immobilization stress
Thrombin marked with I-131 resulted in a considerable increase of the thrombined clearance rate in healthy male rats during stress caused by an immobilization lasting 30 minutes, and in an increase of thrombin clearance occurred by a combination of immobilization and administration of adrenocorticotropin (ACTH). Contrary to ACTH, the thrombin clearance is not stimulated in healthy animals by hydrocortisone. The results of the examination are presented
Classical-Wigner Phase Space Approximation to Cumulative Matrix Elements in Coherent Control
The classical limit of the Wigner-Weyl representation is used to approximate
products of bound-continuum matrix elements that are fundamental to many
coherent control computations. The range of utility of the method is quantified
through an examination of model problems, single-channel Na_2 dissociation and
multi-arrangement channel photodissociation of CH_2IBr. Very good agreement
with the exact quantum results is found for a wide range of system parameters.Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures, to appear in Journal of Chemical Physic
