Investigation of ultra-thin Al₂O₃ film as Cu diffusion barrier on low-k (k=2.5) dielectrics
Ultrathin Al(2)O(3) films were deposited by PEALD as Cu diffusion barrier on low-k (k=2.5) material. The thermal stability and electrical properties of the Cu/low k system with Al(2)O(3) layers with different thickness were studied after annealing. The AES, TEM and EDX results revealed that the ultrathin Al(2)O(3) films are thermally stable and have excellent Cu diffusion barrier performance. The electrical measurements of dielectric breakdown and TDDB tests further confirmed that the ultrathin Al(2)O(3) film is a potential Cu diffusion barrier in the Cu/low-k interconnects system
A Compact Coupled-Fed Loop Antenna for Mobile LTE Smartphones
A coupled-fed loop antenna with Octa-bands operation for long-term evolution (LTE) smartphones is proposed in this paper. The antenna occupies a nonground space of only 6.5 mm × 72 mm, and two wide-band operations can be achieved by exploiting the multimode characteristics of loop antenna and using high-pass matching circuits. In low band, the LTE700/GSM850/900 operation is achieved by the loop mode of 0.5 λ and matching chip capacitor which generates a dual-resonance mode at 0.74 GHz and 0.9 GHz. In high band, the 1 λ mode, the 1.5 λ mode, and the 2 λ mode of the entire loop are combined with the 0.5 λ mode of the left-side coupling loop to cover the DCS1800/PCS1900/UMTS 2100/LTE 2300/2500 operation bands. The measured average realized gains and efficiencies are approximately 1.56 dBi/2.38 dBi and 55.3%/63.6% in the two bands, and a good radiation pattern is achieved as well
Studying newborn neutron stars by the transient emission after stellar collapses and compact binary mergers
The formation of neutron stars (NSs), both from collapses of massive stars
and mergers of compact objects, can be usually indicated by bright transients
emitted from explosively-ejected material. In particular, if the newborn NSs
can rotate at a millisecond period and have a sufficiently high magnetic field,
then the spin-down of the NSs would provide a remarkable amount of energy to
the emitting material. As a result, super-luminous supernovae could be produced
in the massive stellar collapse cases, while some unusual fast evolving and
luminous optical transients could arise from the cases of NS mergers and
accretion-induced collapses of white dwarfs. In all cases, if the dipolar
magnetic fields of the newborn NSs can be amplified to be as high as
G, a relativistic jet could be launched and then a gamma-ray burst can be
produced as the jet successfully breaks out from the surrounding
nearly-isotropic ejected material.Comment: 10 pages, 9 pictures, to appear in the AIP Proceedings of the

Building quantum neural networks based on swap test
Artificial neural network, consisting of many neurons in different layers, is
an important method to simulate humain brain. Usually, one neuron has two
operations: one is linear, the other is nonlinear. The linear operation is
inner product and the nonlinear operation is represented by an activation
function. In this work, we introduce a kind of quantum neuron whose inputs and
outputs are quantum states. The inner product and activation operator of the
quantum neurons can be realized by quantum circuits. Based on the quantum
neuron, we propose a model of quantum neural network in which the weights
between neurons are all quantum states. We also construct a quantum circuit to
realize this quantum neural network model. A learning algorithm is proposed
meanwhile. We show the validity of learning algorithm theoretically and
demonstrate the potential of the quantum neural network numerically.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figure
The First and Second Order Asymptotics of Covert Communication over AWGN Channels
This paper investigates the asymptotics of the maximal throughput of
communication over AWGN channels by channel uses under a covert constraint
in terms of an upper bound of Kullback-Leibler divergence (KL
divergence). It is shown that the first and second order asymptotics of the
maximal throughput are and
, respectively.
The technique we use in the achievability is quasi--neighborhood
notion from information geometry. We prove that if the generating distribution
of the codebook is close to Dirac measure in the weak sense, then the
corresponding output distribution at the adversary satisfies covert constraint
in terms of most common divergences. This helps link the local differential
geometry of the distribution of noise with covert constraint. For the converse,
the optimality of Gaussian distribution for minimizing KL divergence under
second order moment constraint is extended from dimension to dimension .
It helps to establish the upper bound on the average power of the code to
satisfy the covert constraint, which further leads to the direct converse bound
in terms of covert metric
Quantum oscillations in adsorption energetics of atomic oxygen on Pb(111) ultrathin films: A density-functional theory study
Using first-principles calculations, we have systematically studied the
quantum size effects of ultrathin Pb(111) films on the adsorption energies and
diffusion energy barriers of oxygen atoms. For the on-surface adsorption of
oxygen atoms at different coverages, all the adsorption energies are found to
show bilayer oscillation behaviors. It is also found that the work function of
Pb(111) films still keeps the bilayer-oscillation behavior after the adsorption
of oxygen atoms, with the values being enlarged by 2.10 to 2.62 eV. For the
diffusion and penetration of the adsorbed oxygen atoms, it is found that the
most energetically favored paths are the same on different Pb(111) films. And
because of the modulation of quantum size effects, the corresponding energy
barriers are all oscillating with a bilayer period on different Pb(111) films.
Our studies indicate that the quantum size effect in ultrathin metal films can
modulate a lot of processes during surface oxidation
