Past empirical analysis of the relationship between financial development and economic growth in the US suggests that capital market development has no impact on long-run economic growth. However, analysis of the same data used previously reveals the existence of trends and breaks which past studies failed to take into account, hence, rendering their results questionable. Therefore, this paper uses recent advances in time series techniques and investigates the issue again within a VEC model that allows for the presence of trends and breaks in the data. In this framework, we test for long-run causality between stock market development and economic growth after controlling for banking development and stock market volatility. Using three alternative measures of stock market development, the findings of our empirical analysis provide strong evidence that capital market development has a long-run causal impact on output growth in the US

PERSONALITY TYPE AND TRANSLATION PERFORMANCE OF PERSIAN TRANSLATOR TRAINEES

The study investigated the relationship between the personality typology of a sample of Iranian translation students and their translation quality in terms of expressive, appellative, and informative text types. The study also attempted to identify the personality types that can perform better in English to Persian translation of the three text types. For that purpose, the personality type and the translation quality of the participants was assessed using Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test and translation quality assessment (TQA), respectively. The analysis of the data revealed that the personality type of the participants seemed relevant to the translation quality of all the text types. The translation quality of the participants with intuitive and thinking types was significantly better than the sensing type counterparts in translating expressive texts. The participants with intuitive and feeling types also performed better than their counterparts with sensing type in translation of the informative text. Moreover, the participants with intuitive, feeling, and thinking personality types performed more successfully than the participants with sensing type in translation of the appellative text. The findings of the study are discussed in light of the existing research literature.

Evaluating effectiveness of the application of the new perspective in safety, Safety-II: by Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) in a manufacturing environment

The risk matrix has been used by safety professionals for many years as a significant tool for hazard management, risk assessment and prioritization, and to aid in offering a proactive approach to prevent negative outcomes. However, relative risk matrix assessments do not provide enough required variety to understand the complete picture necessary in complex systems of work; it merely explains definite type of hazards and their counter measures in isolation. Moreover, application of a linear causal relationship to recognize hazards creates an extensive attention to negative outcomes and lower level of controls, limiting stakeholder involvement and cross disciplinary engagement. Question sets inspired by the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) have been applied to understand if an alternative approach offers a more effective means of risk assessment, and thus is of greater value to both the stakeholders and the organization. Only one research study has been performed to illustrate if the new methods proposed in recent years (Resilience Engineering, FRAM, etc.) are applicable in industries. Albery et al., (2016) developed a new methodology as part of his dissertation in order to study the application of the new methods in a manufacturing environment. In view of that, this research investigates whether Albery’s findings are valid within other industries

Spectral, dyeing and antimicrobial properties of some monoazo naphthalimide dyes on polyamide

A series of monoazo disperse dyes based on naphthalimide has been applied on to the nylon fabrics. The build-up values and dyeing properties of these dyes, such as leveling, and wash, light and rub fastnesses on nylon fabrics have been assessed. The dyes N-2-aminomethylpyridine-1,8-naphthalimide- azo-4″-N,N-diethyl meta toluidine (A) and N-2-aminomethylpyridine-1,8-naphthalimide-azo-2″- acetylamino-4″- N,N- diethyl aniline (B) show higher build-up values on polyamide fabrics as compared to the dyes N-2-aminomethylpyridine-1,8-naphthalimide- azo- 4″- N-hydroxy ethyl-N- ethyl aniline (C) and N-2-aminomethylpyridine-1,8-naphthalimide- azo- 4″- N-hydroxy ethyl-N- ethyl aniline quaternized with 1- bromobutane (D). All of the applied dyes exhibit excellent rub fastness, good wash fastness and moderate light fastness on nylon fabrics. In addition, the molar extinction coefficient, wavelengths of the maximum absorption and solvatochromism effects have also been studied using chloroform, toluene, and DMF as solvents. Positive solvatochromism occurs when toluene is replaced by DMF as solvent. The antimicrobial properties of dyed fabrics are evaluated against various bacteria; the dyed fabrics exhibit antimicrobial efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Análisis judeo-cristiano de la crisis de COVID-19 y su gestión

The present coronavirus crisis caused major worldwide disruption. Numerous experts admit now that the crisis management was far from optimal from the very beginning. In the paper, we first digest the available information on the crisis and its management. We then list factors that led to the chosen way of crisis management. Afterwards, we question whether religious leaders could have gained enough information for them not to have supported lockdowns etc. back in March, 2020. In our opinion, they could have if they would have addressed trustworthy experts with a list of reasonable professional questions. We then analyze the question if hypothetical coercive measures are justified in the case when they are effective in decreasing the overall mortality but cause the death of several people. Our conclusion is that such measures are not justified ethically, and implementing emergency powers is justified only in the case of war. Finally, we formulate several important problems highlighted by COVID-19 to be discussed in the future.La actual crisis del coronavirus ha causado una gran perturbación a nivel mundial. Numerosos expertos admiten ahora que la gestión de crisis estuvo lejos de ser óptima desde el principio. En el documento, primero resumimos la información disponible sobre la crisis y su gestión. A continuación, enumeramos los factores que llevaron a la forma elegida de gestión de crisis. Posteriormente, cuestionamos si los líderes religiosos podrían haber obtenido suficiente información para no haber apoyado los bloqueos, etc. en marzo de 2020. En nuestra opinión, podrían haberlo hecho si se hubieran dirigido a expertos confiables con una lista de preguntas profesionales razonables. Luego analizamos la cuestión de si las medidas coercitivas hipotéticas están justificadas en el caso de que sean efectivas para disminuir la mortalidad general pero causen la muerte de varias personas. Nuestra conclusión es que tales medidas no están justificadas éticamente, y la implementación de poderes de emergencia solo está justificada en caso de guerra. Enhancing semantic congruity effects with category-contingent comparative judgments

In each of two experiments the direction of a binary comparison was contingent on the category of the stimulus pair. In one experiment, participants had to compare the size of animals from memory. On congruent trials, they had to select the smaller animal if both were small and the larger if both were large and on incongruent trials they selected the larger if both were small and the smaller if both were large. In a second experiment, participants had to compare visual extents and the direction of the comparison was contingent on whether the lines were short or long. RTs were increased and semantic congruity effects were greatly amplified with the category contingent instructions relative to the conventional non-contingent instructions, precisely as predicted by the class of evidence accrual models of decisional processing and contrary to the single sample stage models of the semantic congruity effect

The religious world became captive to the concept that we must do everything to prolong metabolism for every additional moment. In most cases, a person is separated from the world while in an alienated environment, connected to transfusions and machines. While we deny euthanasia in an absolute and unconditional manner, our practical suggestion is encouraging palliative medicine. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of the illness rather than attempting to cure. We wish to instill the understanding that natural death from old age is a gift from God, not a punishment.El concepto de "morir de vejez" casi no existe hoy en día; siempre es una muerte por alguna enfermedad. El mundo religioso ha quedado atrapado en la noción de que debemos hacer todo lo posible para prolongar el metabolismo en cada momento adicional. En la mayoría de los casos, una persona está separada del mundo en un entorno alienado, conectada a transfusiones y máquinas. Aunque negamos la eutanasia de manera absoluta e incondicional, nuestra sugerencia práctica es fomentar la medicina paliativa.
