    Get PDF
This study takes place in the realm of psychological literature. It analyzes the autobiography of American Dr. Paul Kalanithi, When Air Biomes Breath. The story revolves around Dr. Kalanithi’s life being a patient of lung cancer at the last stage, IV. The book is marvelous and incredible, life-affirming meditation from this remarkable man, on the subject of difficulty of confronting mortality and the bond between doctor and patient. This is a memoir about his life and disease, combating metastatic lung cancer. He shares grief, suffering, turmoil and psychological trauma and its balance point in the book. Similarly, the researchers have inspected the stages of grief Dr. suffered from. For this, Textual Analysis of the book is conducted through Kubler-Ross Model of grief as a theoretical framework. The study is designed descriptively. The selected excerpts from the story are analyzed to reach the research question. The findings of the study reveal that Dr. Kalanithi had deeply suffered from five stages of grief as proposed by Ross, but his circle of grief goes in contrast. He randomly accepted, rejected, became angry and denied, and again accepted this turmoil. Relatively, this study is helpful for understanding the model and the storyline of Dr. Kalanithi in the realm of psychological literature

Perceptions of Research Scholars towards Research Supervision and Supervisory Practices at Doctorate Level

    Get PDF
The current paper was about the investigation of perceptions of research scholars towards research supervision and its impact on academic satisfaction and research skills. The main objectives were to investigate the satisfaction of research scholars, explore the perceptions of research scholars about their supervisors’ expertise and supervisors’ supervisory practices in M. Phil degree. Data were collected with self-developed instrument named Doctoral Students’ Satisfaction and Research Skills Survey (DSSRSS). The statistical tests frequency distribution and t-test were applied. The result revealed that research scholars were dissatisfied with the supervisory practices of the supervisors (Mean = 2.56, SD = .754) and research expertise of the supervisors (Mean = 2.87, SD = .698). Female students were found to be more dissatisfied than those of male students in both supervisory practices and research expertise of the supervisors. The process of research supervision should be improved to get the fruitful results both quantitatively and qualitatively

Improving Cognitive Development in Secondary Chemistry through Gagne's Events Of Instruction

    Get PDF
The work being presented here intended to investigate the role of Gagne's events of instruction in the teaching learning process. The focus of this study was to bring about improvement in the conceptual framework and strengthening of their neural networks and the pruning misconceptions of students in the subject of chemistry at secondary level and to evaluate whether the events of instruction are helpful to assimilate the stimulus material with the neural networks of the learners. It was also observed that the events of instruction significantly reduced the learning time and simultaneously the assimilation rate was also increased. Information bridging time was reduced to a significant level. Comparison was made between the students taught by Gagne's events and the students taught by traditional method of instruction. The change or significant difference was observed in favor of those students who were treated by Gagne's events of instruction. The study put emphasis on the incorporation of Gagne's events of instruction while planning, designing and teaching phase of lesson plan. The events of instruction need to be employed in the planning and designing phase of teaching learning process. The teachers can improve their pedagogical content knowledge and can design the learning situations and learning environments that are conducive to learning. So the teaching learning process, teacher's teaching skills can be made efficient and effective by incorporating Gagne's events of instruction

The Effectiveness of Co-curricular Activities on Academic Achievements of Secondary School Students in District Abbottabad Pakistan - A Case Study

This research was conducted to examine the effect of co-curricular activities on academic achievements of secondary school students in District Abbottabad. The research is experimental in nature, pre-test Post's test equivalent group design was selected for this purpose. In this study, an achievement test covering four chapters of mathematics and four lessons of English was used as measuring instrument. Depending upon pre-test scores, 200 students of 10th class were divided into two equal groups (n=100) named as experimental group and control group. The experimental group was involved in co-curricular activities and the control group did not participate in any activity beyond the classroom. There were two types of co-curricular activities. First physical i.e., games, athletics and P.T (physical training) etc and the other was debates, drama speeches etc. The experimental group carried out activities for forty minutes daily for twelve weeks. The post-test was administered after twelve weeks. The pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental and control groups served as data for this study. The analysis of data revealed that on the whole, experimental groups showed better performance than controlled group. Hence the ultimate results of the study indicated that co-curricular activities can contribute for enhancing academic achievements of the secondary school students. Keywords: Co-curricular activities, Academics achievement

The Critique of Totalitarianism in Shaikh Ayaz And Habib Jalib’s Poetry: A Comparative Study

    Get PDF
Shaikh Ayaz and Habib Jalib are very renowned figures of Pakistani modern literature. Following the trend, their literary works tend to highlight their contemporary issues. Totalitarianism is a very internationally recognized political dogma which deals with controlling a state with one-man power. In the modern political discourse, it is named as dictatorship. Therefore, the study is concerned with locating the critique of totalitarianism in the poets’ poems. The researchers find the objective of finding the theme of totalitarianism in the comparative manner. The researchers answer the question that how the theme of totalitarianism is dealt with, by both poets comparatively. The research follows the comparative textual analysis method of research and is qualitative in design. The Researchers have examined some similarities and differences between the poets while treating the subject of Totalitarianism. The findings of the study rely on understanding Ayaz as an international totalitarian critic, and Jalib as a national critic. The study is significant to understand Pakistani political literature

Numerical study of buoyancy-driven natural ventilation in a simple three-storey atrium building

    Get PDF
AbstractA simple three-storey atrium building was modeled to investigate the development of buoyancy-driven natural ventilation airflows induced by solar radiation and by the heat sources present on each floor of the building using a validated Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model. The Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) modeling approach with the SST-k-ω turbulence model and the Discrete Transfer Radiation Model (DTRM) was used for the numerical solution. The steady-state governing equations were solved using a commercial CFD solver FLUENT©. The air flow patterns, temperature distributions and the ventilation flow rates as predicted by the CFD model for this case study are presented in this paper. The ventilation flow rates were compared in non-dimensional form with the analytical design curves found in literature developed through the use of an analytical approach for a simple geometry atrium building. It was found that the CFD predictions agreed with the general trends described by the analytical model. The effect of solar intensity on the buoyancy-driven ventilation flow rates and the temperature distributions during the day-light hours and at different geographical locations was also investigated

PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION OF ENGAGEMENT IN ACTIVE LEARNING THROUGH PEER TEACHING AND PEER ASSESSMENT

The study intends to investigate the perceptions of higher education students about their engagement in active learning through peer-teaching and peer-assessment. A group of 22 students comprising nine female and thirteen males participated in the study. The researchers taught the course within six weeks, and then divided it amongst students through assignments. The students prepared it, discussed with researchers, shared and taught the assigned part of the course to their peers in the classroom in the presence of one of the researchers. The peers assessed the quality of presentation and mastery of the content and teaching skills of their peers against a given rubric. Three instruments namely: questionnaire, interviews and focussed group discussion were used to investigate students’ perceptions. The analysis of data revealed that students felt actively engaged in their studies through peer teaching and peer-assessment. Moreover correlation between peer assessment and teacher assessment was also calculated. Peer teaching and peer assessment can be confidently used in higher education in Pakistan on condition that teacher as a supervisor is highly vigilant
