This study aims to determine the effect of virtual reality nature relaxation in reducing public speaking anxiety in final year students. This research design is quantitative experimental with the type of one group pretest-posttest design. This study used purposive sampling technique with 5 research subjects. This research instrument uses an adaptation of the Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (PRPSA) scale totaling 34 items. This study used Wilcoxon signed ranks test analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of public speaking anxiety (p = 0.043 <0.05) so that it is proven that virtual reality nature relaxation can have an effect in reducing public speaking anxiety in final year students. The implications of this study are expected to provide information to final year students who experience public speaking anxiety by providing virtual reality nature relaxation

This research is motivated by the filing of a verzet lawsuit against verstek in case number 135/Pdt.G/2013/PN.Kpn, where the verstek decision has been decided for more than 9 years. This research aims to analyze verzet legal remedies for verstek that has passed the time limit for filing a Verzet Lawsuit. When reflecting on Article 129 HIR, of course, the Verzet Lawsuit is a little deviant, because the time limit for filing a Verzet Lawsuit against Verstek is 14 days after notification of the decision and or 8 days after the aanmaning. The research method conducted by the author is an empirical juridical research method with a socio legal approach. In this case, the author conducted interviews with legal counsel directly and was present in the field to follow the trial. The result of this research is that there is a legal deviation, in which the Panel of Judges accepts the filing of a Verzet Legal Action from the Plaintiff / Former Defendant. The filing of this Verzet has actually exceeded the time limit of the applicable rules. In addition to accepting the Verzet submission, the Panel of Judges also considered the Plaintiff to be the correct Plaintiff. In fact, if the filing of the Verzet has exceeded the time limit, it should be rejected / unacceptable. In addition, the Panel of Judges should have ruled and stated that the Complainant was an incorrect Complainant

Role of head teachers in managing the forces emanating from the external world of schools in Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan

    Get PDF
This paper reviews the nature and intensity of some external forces that shape and re-shape headteachers’ school improvement efforts in the mountainous and rural Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan. The external forces emanating from the outside world of the schools are categorized under three themes: divisions within the school community, influences of the district office, and issues of communication with parents. The divisions within the school community were clear and deep. The major divisions included the uneven socioeconomic levels, the various tribal systems, the sense of local and non-locals, and the different religious denominations. The challenges related to the District Office were: monetary challenges, monitoring and supervision, and a surfeit of assignments given to schools. The issues of communication with parents were: parents’ lack of interest in school improvement issues and the low socioeconomic background of parents. The paper also examines headteachers’ roles in addressing these ongoing school improvement challenges

An integrated approach to school development in northern areas of Pakistan

I started my career as a primary school teacher working for the Aga Khan Education Service in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. I was one of AKU-IED’s first-cohort Professional Development Teachers (PDTs), and was the only course participant from the Northern Areas of Pakistan in the first MEd course. Having completed the MEd degree from AKU-IED, I went back to my parent institution and was assigned the management of 30 schools. My post-MEd work, which reflects an integrated approach to school development, ranges from conducting professional development programmes for teachers and head teachers, increasing students’ voice in school improvement-related decisions, revitalising school management committees, establishing resource centres, to increasing parents’ (especially of mothers’) involvement in school life. The saga of my work as a PDT portrays both successes and frustrations, and has interesting implications for those who may work under similar social, political and geographic conditions in the Northern Areas, or elsewhere in the country. My work as a change facilitator for Aga Khan Education Service, the government and the English-medium schools in the Northern Areas was researched and a documentary called ‘A New Beginning’ was produced by an AKU-IED research assistant (Saeeda Nathu). This documentary presents interesting insights on multigrade teaching issues, community involvement in schools, orientation programmes to the school management committees, and the students’ representative councils in schools. I believe that sharing the significant episodes of this documentary, of 25 minutes, highlighting the achievements and challenges, and showing the school improvement work done in the rural, mountainous Northern Areas might be interesting and professionally helpful for other PDTs facilitating changes in schools. Thus, I intend to present a paper (with the video) describing both my successes and challenges as a PDT in enacting school improvement in the Northern Areas of Pakistan

Getting the girls to school: The community schools project in Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan

This paper reviews a ten-year, two-phase educational project that, amongst its main aims, attempted to increase significantly the enrolment of girls in schools. After discussing the constraints on the lives of females in the region, the paper analyses the effects of the project on enrolment. Although girls’ enrolment doubled, a large proportion of girls remained out of school and the drop-out rate of girls was significantly higher than that of boys. The paper examines the reasons for these trends and suggests that, contrary to some expectations, many parents are willing to send their girls to school, but only under strictly controlled and monitored conditions. Finally, there is a discussion of some broader implications of developments that took place during the project
