    Distributed super dense coding over noisy channels

    We study multipartite super dense coding in the presence of a covariant noisy channel. We investigate the case of many senders and one receiver, considering both unitary and non-unitary encoding. We study the scenarios where the senders apply local encoding or global encoding. We show that, up to some pre-processing on the original state, the senders cannot do better encoding than local, unitary encoding. We then introduce general Pauli channels as a significant example of covariant maps. Considering Pauli channels, we provide examples for which the super dense coding capacity is explicitly determined

    Quantum dense coding over Bloch channels

    Dynamics of coded information over Bloch channels is investigated for different values of the channel's parameters. We show that, the suppressing of the travelling coded information over Bloch channel can be increased by decreasing the equilibrium absolute value of information carrier and consequently decreasing the distilled information by eavesdropper. The amount of decoded information can be improved by increasing the equilibrium values of the two qubits and decreasing the ratio between longitudinal and transverse relaxation times. The robustness of coded information in maximum and partial entangled states is discussed. It is shown that the maximum entangled states are more robust than the partial entangled state over this type of channels

    Research on Geoscience Students\u27 Self-Regulated Learning, Metacognition, and Affect

    It is how individuals navigate content through their affect, their ability to self-regulate, and their metacognitive capabilities that ultimately determines whether and how they interact with the content. Many of the questions researchers in the fields of education psychology, cognitive science, and science education still have about these matters are in direct alignment with the interests of geoscience education research (GER). Some of these emergent lines of inquiry in these other fields can inform GER through the use of more-established theories and methodologies. The geosciences may be a unique context in which these questions can be investigated and the findings generated from GER researchers may be of interest to the broader learning science audience which, in turn, may provide geoscience education researchers new dissemination outlets and interested audiences to publish and communicate their research findings. In this theme chapter, the authors articulate four grand challenges that highlight needed areas of research on self-regulated learning, metacognition and affect. These are organized around important ways in which these factors emerge in teaching and learning: in the development of student skills, in the support of a diverse population of learners, in the support of educators teaching these students, and in assuring that research on these factors is of the highest standards

It is shown that this force is reduced when the plates are subject to a spatially distributed heating. The largest reduction occurs for heating wavelengths of the order of distance between the plates with its magnitude increasing proportionally to the second power of the relevant Rayleigh number. It is shown that a sufficiently strong heating eliminates the need for the driving force altogether. The effect is active only in small Reynolds number flows

    Run Rules-Based EWMA Charts for Efficient Monitoring of Profile Parameters

    In usual quality control methods, the quality of a process or product is evaluated by monitoring one or more quality characteristics using their corresponding distributions. However, when the quality characteristic is defined through the relationship between one or more response and independent variables, the regime is referred to as profiles monitoring. In this article, we improve the performance of the Exponentially Weighted Moving Average Range (EWMAR) control charts, which are implemented for monitoring linear profiles (i.e., intercept, slope and average residual between sample and reference lines) by integrating them with run rules in order to quickly detect various magnitudes of shifts in profile parameters. The validation of the proposed control chart is accomplished by examining its performance using the average run length (ARL) criteria. The proposed EWMAR chart with run rules exhibits a much better performance in detecting small and decreasing shifts than the other competing charts. Finally, an example from multivariate manufacturing industry is employed to illustrate the superiority of the EWMAR chart with run rules. 2013 IEEE.Scopu

    Using fuzzy PROMETHEE to select countries for developmental Aid

    Wealthy nations continue to demonstrate their unwavering support to improving conditions and the general well-being of poor countries in spite of the recent economic crises. However, as developmental aid relatively shrinks, both Aid donors and recipient countries have shown keen interest in methodologies used in evaluating developmental assistance programs. Evaluation of aid programs is seen as a complex task mainly because of the several non-aid factors that tend to affect overall outcomes. Adding to the complexity are the subjective sets of criteria used in Aid evaluations programs. This paper proposes a two stage framework of fuzzy TOPSIS and sensitivity analysis to demonstrate how aid-recipient countries can be evaluated to deepen transparency, fairness, value for money and sustainability of such aid programs. Using the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) set of subjective criteria for evaluating aid programs; a numerical examplepre-defined by linguistic terms parameterized by triangular fuzzy numbers is provided to evaluate aid programs. Fuzzy PROMETHEE is used in the first stage to evaluate and rank aid-recipients followed by a comparative analysis with Fuzzy VIKOR and Fuzzy TOPSIS to ascertain an accurateness of the method used. A sensitivity analysis is further added that anticipates possible influences from lobbyists and examines the effect of that bias in expert ratings on the evaluation process.
