Spitzer Observations of High Redshift Radio Galaxies
We present the results of a comprehensive Spitzer survey of 70 radio galaxies
across 1<z<5.2. Using IRAC, IRS and MIPS imaging we determine the rest-frame
AGN contribution to the stellar emission peak at 1.6um. The stellar
luminosities are found to be consistent with that of a giant elliptical with a
stellar mass of 10^11-12Msun. The mean stellar mass remains constant at
\~10^11.5Msun up to z=3 indicating that the upper end of the mass function is
already in place by this redshift. The mid-IR luminosities imply bolometric IR
luminosities that would classify all sources as ULIRGs. The mid-IR to radio
luminosity generally correlate implying a common origin for these emissions.
The ratio is higher than that found for lower redshift, ie z<1, radio galaxies.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, to appear in the proceedings of "The Spitzer

Body dissatisfaction, appearance investment and wellbeing: how older obese men orient to 'aesthetic health' [forthcoming]
Most research on male body image to date has focused on young men using quantitative methods. The study reported here is based on qualitative interviews with a sample of older men (n = 30) on a weight management programme, and we asked them about body-related feelings. The interviews were all transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Our results indicate that although body weight was typically minimised, body image was a key concern, with many examples of body consciousness and body dissatisfaction evident. On the other hand, post-programme weight loss was associated with a transformative shift in body image, with the men emphasising enhanced body confidence, self-esteem and psychological wellbeing. We conclude by highlighting the need to recognise and address appearance issues and/as health concerns for middle-aged and older men
Anesthesia for cystotomy in a dog with pancreatitis and a portosystemic shunt
A 21-month-old Cocker spaniel with a portosystemic shunt, a moderate thrombocytopenia and a history of pancreatitis, was anesthetized for a cystotomy to remove bladder polyps and stones. The portosystemic shunt had been treated conservatively with lactulose, ampicillin and a special diet. After premedication with methadone 0.2 mg/kg, by intramuscular (IM) injection, anesthesia was induced with propofol 4 mg/kg intravenously (IV) and maintained with isoflurane in oxygen. Additionally, 2 mL lidocaine 2% and 0.1 mg/kg morphine were injected in the lumbosacral epidural space and 0:1 mg/kg meloxicam was administered intravenously. Except for a moderate decrease in arterial pressure after the epidural injection and the need for intermittent positive pressure ventilation during surgery, anesthesia and recovery were uneventful. Postoperative analgesia was provided with methadone (0.2 mg/kg every 4 hours initially, then 0.1 mg/kg every 6 hours IM) and oral meloxicam (0.1 mg/kg the first day, 0.05 mg/kg during 4 days)
Mission safety evaluation report for STS-37, postflight edition
STS-37/Atlantis was launched on April 5, 1991 from Kennedy Space Center launch complex 39B at 9:23 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). Launch was delayed 4 minutes 45 seconds because of safety concerns about the low cloud ceiling and the wind direction in the potential blast area. Based on the limited number and type of inflight anomalies encountered, the Space Shuttle operated satisfactorily throughout the STS-37 mission. A contingency EVA was performed by the crew on Flight Day (FD) 3 to free a sticky Gamma Ray Observatory (GRO) high gain antenna, after which the GRO primary payload was successfully deployed by the Orbiter's Remote Manipulator System. The GRO, which weighed just over 35,000 lbs, was the heaviest NASA science satellite ever deployed by the Space Shuttle into low Earth orbit. The scheduled entry/landing on FD 6 was waved off for one day due to high wind conditions at Edwards Air Force Base. Atlantis landed on FD 7, 11 April 1991 on Edwards AFB lakebed runway 33 at 9:55 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time
Evaluation of at-sea flight testing of the MV-22 Osprey for operational employment
The MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft is a radically new air vehicle designed to replace aging helicopters and support the US Marine Corp\u27s future concept of operational maneuver from the sea. Unfortunately the aircraft has been plagued with political and programmatic delays throughout its 19-year history that prevented early and comprehensive at-sea testing. With an operational evaluation in October 1999, shortened at-sea test period was required late in the aircraft development in January 1999.This thesis analyzes the compressed developmental test process used to prepare this novelair vehicle for sea service in a short time period. The dynamic interface testing of Naval aircraft and ships is not new, although the advent of tiltrotors incorporating digital fly-by-wire technology has challenged traditional developmental procedures. The MV-22 required extensive test planning, flying qualities evaluations and engineering tests to define safe operational limits in the shipboard environment. An analysis of a lateral control instability problem encountered during the testing and the subsequent test process innovations for this unique aircraft substantiate the need to conduct comprehensive and extensive developmental testing. It is the author\u27s opinion that at-sea testing is risky and the final exam for a Naval Aircraft. The risks of a shortened test process were that deficiencies would be uncovered and that uncharted capabilities would not be exploited for operational employment. The Documented successes and failures of the MV-22 at-sea test process yield lessons that should be put into practice by future amphibious Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL)aircraft such as the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and other follow-on VSTOL aircraft
Farm taxation and county government in Tennessee
Farm taxation and county government problems are among the most pressing issues of the day. The rapidly increasing cost of county government brings up the question of the cause of the increase, as well as the more important one of how the cost may be reduced, or a better quality and quantity serrice secured for the same money.
Taking 1914 as 100, taxes on farm lands for the United States as a whole have increased to 258 in 1927. During this same period the general price level increased only from 100 to 150. The question of finding new sources for taxation presents a topic well worth study and consideration; also, the more equal distribution of taxation among the various groups of people provides a topic that yields fruitful results of investigation.
An effort has been made to find weaknesses that may exist in the efficiency of county administration, including the levying and collection of taxes, and to recommend changes that would result In increased efficiency
