The Phase Structure of the Weakly Coupled Lattice Schwinger Model
The weak coupling expansion is applied to the single flavour Schwinger model
with Wilson fermions on a symmetric toroidal lattice of finite extent. We
develop a new analytic method which permits the expression of the partition
function as a product of pure gauge expectation values whose zeroes are the
Lee-Yang zeroes of the model. Application of standard finite-size scaling
techniques to these zeroes recovers previous numerical results for the small
and moderate lattice sizes to which those studies were restricted. Our
techniques, employable for arbitrarily large lattices, reveal the absence of
accumulation of these zeroes on the real hopping parameter axis at constant
weak gauge coupling. The consequence of this previously unobserved behaviour is
the absence of a zero fermion mass phase transition in the Schwinger model with

The Structure of the Aoki Phase at Weak Coupling
A new method to determine the phase diagram of certain lattice fermionic
field theories in the weakly coupled regime is presented. This method involves
a new type of weak coupling expansion which is multiplicative rather than
additive in nature and allows perturbative calculation of partition function
zeroes. Application of the method to the single flavour Gross-Neveu model gives
a phase diagram consistent with the parity symmetry breaking scenario of Aoki
and provides new quantitative information on the width of the Aoki phase in the

SWECS tower dynamics analysis methods and results
Several different tower dynamics analysis methods and computer codes were used to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of both guyed and freestanding wind turbine towers. These analysis methods are described and the results for two types of towers, a guyed tower and a freestanding tower, are shown. The advantages and disadvantages in the use of and the accuracy of each method are also described
Numerical Evidence for the Observation of a Scalar Glueball
We compute from lattice QCD in the valence (quenched) approximation the
partial decay widths of the lightest scalar glueball to pairs of pseudoscalar
quark-antiquark states. These predictions and values obtained earlier for the
scalar glueball's mass are in good agreement with the observed properties of

Handling Lameness in Cattle
Often cattle suffer extreme lameness when only one claw is affected and there is no involvement of the interphalangeal joints. many times the pain associated with these lesions may be so severe that the animal will not walk to a feed bunk or graze. This inevitably leads to costly weight losses in the feedlot and decreased milk production in the lactating animal. Some examples of these painful single claw afflictions include sole abscesses, nail or rock punctures, and other traumatic injuries
Reassessing hierarchical correspondences between brain and deep networks through direct interface
Functional correspondences between deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) and the mammalian visual system support a hierarchical account in which successive stages of processing contain ever higher-level information. However, these correspondences between brain and model activity involve shared, not task-relevant, variance. We propose a stricter account of correspondence: If a DCNN layer corresponds to a brain region, then replacing model activity with brain activity should successfully drive the DCNN’s object recognition decision. Using this approach on three datasets, we found that all regions along the ventral visual stream best corresponded with later model layers, indicating that all stages of processing contained higher-level information about object category. Time course analyses suggest that long-range recurrent connections transmit object class information from late to early visual areas

Neonatal calf scours have been a costly problem for cattlemen for many years. The disease strikes all types of cattle operations although it is most devastating in the intensified cow-calf herd or dairy herd. For the purposes of this paper neonatal calf scours will be defined as that condition of young calves, usually under ten days of age, which is characterized clinically by severe diarrhea and dehydration. with death occurring within a few days if treatment is not begun at the onset and by the absence of lesions characteristic of other diseases
Controlling Decay Fungi in Douglas-Fir Heartwood with Pelletized Sodium N-Methyldithiocarbamate
A small block test was used in assessing whether pelletized sodium n-methyldithiocarbamate (NaMDC) would decompose and produce methylisothiocyanate (MITC) and thereby eliminate Antrodia carbonica colonies from Douglas-fir heartwood. Also evaluated were the effects of wood moisture content, dosage, incubation period, pH level, and presence of copper sulfate on percentage of kill of the fungus and amount of MITC in the wood. Increasing moisture content produced the most dramatic increases in MITC production and fungal control. The effects of pH and the presence of copper ions were more variable. The results indicate that pelletized NaMDC can effectively control fungal infestations in Douglas-fir heartwood. Field studies are planned
