I.Ceban a obţinut 40,19%, A.Năstase –31,08%

Based on Religiões do Rio, written by João do Rio, this article discusses how he managed to successfuly cross over the boundaries of his own culture, thus being able to witness the way by which the Black communities of Rio de Janeiro regained the spell once stolen by White conquerors, thereby challenging their domination

Porosity control of in situ forming tungsten carbide in laser additive manufacturing (LAM)

© 2020 Old City Publishing, Inc. Published by license under the OCP Science imprint, a member of the Old City Publishing Group. The effect of powder compression on the formation of porosity when heating with a laser beam has been investigated. The starting materials were elemental powders of Fe, W and C which were locally melted to form WC in Fe matrix by an in situ laser additive manufacturing (LAM) process. The resulting microstructures have been studied and chemical analysis has been performed. The main application for the process is for the production of WC based or carbide cutting tooling by very accurate deposition of hard-facing materials onto a steel substrate. Fe is used as the matrix material since ferrous alloys are employed as the substrate for these applications.Peer reviewe

How Do Firms Appropriate Value from Employees with Transferable Skills? A Study of the Appropriation Puzzle in Actively Managed Mutual Funds

How do firms benefit from employees with transferable skills? The prevailing view is that labor market frictions that impede employee mobility or strategies that constrain skill transferability are the primary instruments for firms to appropriate value from human capital. The empirical evidence, however, suggests that employees continue to be mobile, and firms pay premiums to attract and retain employees with transferable skills. To reconcile theory with data, we use data from the mutual-fund industry, where it is widely documented that active fund managers appropriate more value than they generate. We develop a theory of positive externalities stemming from transferable human capital that we argue accrue mostly to the firm, and provide evidence of such externalities in the mutual fund context. Empirically, we decompose the skills of mutual-fund managers into task- and firm-specific components, and argue that managers with taskspecific skills generate positive externalities at the firm level that are not reflected in their performance measured at the fund level. We advance and test empirical hypotheses on the existence of these positive unmeasured externalities by examining whether managers with task-specific skills are more likely to be associated with activities such as mentoring, increased risk taking, and generating spillovers at the firm level. Our results show that managers with task-specific skills are indeed associated with greater positive externalities, compared with managers with firm-specific skills. We discuss the implications of our results for the literature on human-capital value creation and appropriation

Cyclic moisture sorption and its effects on the thermomechanical properties of epoxy and epoxy/MWCNT nanocomposite

Funding Information: This research was funded by ERDF project No. 1.1.1.2/VIAA/1/16/066 for the support of the post-doctoral research project "Environmental effects on physical properties of smart composites and fiber-reinforced plastics modified by carbonaceous nanofillers for structural applications". Publisher Copyright: © 2019 by the authors. The aim of this work was to reveal the moisture absorption-desorption-resorption characteristics of epoxy and epoxy-based nanocomposites filled with different multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by investigating the reversibility of the moisture effect on their thermomechanical properties. Two types of MWCNTs with average diameters of 9.5 and 140 nm were used. For the neat epoxy and nanocomposite samples, the moisture absorption and resorption tests were performed in atmospheres with 47%, 73%, and 91% relative humidity at room temperature. Dynamic mechanical analysis was employed to evaluate the hygrothermal ageing effect for unconditioned and environmentally "aged" samples. It was found that moisture sorption was not fully reversible, and the extent of the irreversibility on thermomechanical properties was different for the epoxy and the nanocomposite. The addition of both types of MWCNTs to the epoxy resin reduced sorption characteristics for all sorption tests, improved the hygrothermal and reduced the swelling rate after the moisture absorption-desorption.publishersversionPeer reviewe
