    The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of discipline, personality competence and supervision of the principal on the performance of the teachers of the Public Middle School in the Seberang Ulu 1 District of Palembang.The research design uses an associative type. The population in this study were teachers of Public Middle Schools in the Seberang ULU 1 Palembang District, amounting to 305 people. The sampling technique in this study is cluster sampling. The sampling technique uses the Yamane formula to obtain 173 people, the analysis model used uses multiple linear regression methods.The results showed that: 1) There was a significant effect of discipline, personality competence and supervision of principals together on the performance of teachers in the Public Middle School in the Seberang ULU 1 Palembang District. 2) There is a significant effect of discipline, personality competence and supervision of principals partially on the performance of teachers in the Public Middle School in Seberang District ULU 1 Palembang.The implications of this study provide results that principals as leaders must be able to provide examples of discipline to teachers accompanied by communication that can lead to compliance. The principal includes his teacher for personality training to improve knowledge, skills, skills, and attitudes to be able to carry out tasks and positions based on the personality needed by a teacher. Furthermore, the principal needs to master the supervision technique so that he can find out the problems that occur in his school

    The drying kinetics study was carried out on agricultural commodities using an infrared dryer at temperature 60 °C. The aim of this study was to determine a drying model and effective moisture diffusivity that showed the drying characteristics of cassava slices, banana slices and groundnut pods. The experiments were conducted at three agricultural commodities (cassava, banana, and groundnut) at two capacity levels of 12 kg and 24 kg. Drying was done by arranging the agricultural material on tray of 0.5 kg and 1 kg for the treatment of 12 kg capacity and 24 kg capacity, respectively. A total of 24 trays were inserted into the dryer and every hour sample was taken to analyze the water content by gravimetric method. Data was fitted to four drying models and non-linear regression analysis was used to determine model parameters. The models were compared based on their coefficients of determination (R2) between the experimental and predicted moisture ratios. The results showed that the increase of drying capacity would decrease the drying rate for all agricultural commodities. The Page model was showed to the best for describing the drying behaviour for these agricultural products. Effective moisture diffusivity ranged between 1.34x10-10 m2/s - 3.23x10-10 m2/s

    Quality assessment of local and franchise beef and chicken burgers

    Six brands of local beef and chicken burgers, three brands of franchise beef and two brands of franchise chicken burgers were evaluated for proximate composition, myoglobin and meat content, colour (L, a, b values) and microbiology composition i.e. Total Plate Count (CFU/gm), Coliform and Escherichia coli Counts (MPN/gm), Staphylococus aureus Count (CFU/gm) and presence of Salmonella sp. All franchise beef burgers had higher protein and moisture contents (except burger C) and lower carbohydrate content than the local brands. No significant differences (p > 0.05) in fat, ash and crude fibre contents were observed between local brands and franchise beef burgers. Most local brands of chicken burgers had lower levels of protein and moisture and higher levels of fat, fibre and carbohydrate than the franchises. No significant differences (p > 0.05) in ash content was observed between the local brands and franchise chicken burgers. All beef burgers had low myoglobin and meat contents «65%) with the exception of AI, FI and GI burgers. Chicken burgers, EI, FI and franchise burger B had higher meat content (>65%) than the others. All beef and chicken burgers had higher 'L' values which ranged between 45.13 % to 53.68% and 62.75 % to 72.48% respectively except FI which was darker. Local brands of beef burgers had a higher 'a' value compared to the franchises and all chicken burgers had a low 'a" value except FI which was redder. Low Total Plate Count, Coliform and E. coli counts were detected in all burger samples. S. aureus counts in most local brands of beefand chicken burger samples were higher than the franchises which ranged from 2 to 11 CFU/gm sample and 6 to 22 CFU/gm sample respectively. Salmonella sp was not present in all burger samples

    Coexistence of Magnetic Order and Two-dimensional Superconductivity at LaAlO3_3/SrTiO3_3 Interfaces

    A two dimensional electronic system with novel electronic properties forms at the interface between the insulators LaAlO3_3 and SrTiO3_3. Samples fabricated until now have been found to be either magnetic or superconducting, depending on growth conditions. We combine transport measurements with high-resolution magnetic torque magnetometry and report here evidence of magnetic ordering of the two-dimensional electron liquid at the interface. The magnetic ordering exists from well below the superconducting transition to up to 200 K, and is characterized by an in-plane magnetic moment. Our results suggest that there is either phase separation or coexistence between magnetic and superconducting states. The coexistence scenario would point to an unconventional superconducting phase in the ground state.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    Pharmacologically antagonizing the CXCR4-CXCL12 chemokine pathway with AMD3100 inhibits sunlight-induced skin cancer

    One way sunlight causes skin cancer is by suppressing anti-tumor immunity. A major mechanism involves altering mast cell migration via the C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4–C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12 (CXCR4-CXCL12) chemokine pathway. We have discovered that pharmacologically blocking this pathway with the CXCR4 antagonist AMD3100 prevents both UV radiation-induced immune suppression and skin cancer. The majority of control mice receiving UV-only developed histopathologically confirmed squamous cell carcinomas. In contrast, skin tumor incidence and burden was significantly lower in AMD3100-treated mice. Perhaps most striking was that AMD3100 completely prevented the outgrowth of latent tumors that occurred once UV irradiation ceased. AMD3100 protection from UV immunosuppression and skin cancer was associated with reduced mast cell infiltration into the skin, draining lymph nodes, and the tumor itself. Thus a major target of CXCR4 antagonism was the mast cell. Our results indicate that interfering with UV-induced CXCL12 by antagonizing CXCR4 significantly inhibits skin tumor development by blocking UV-induced effects on mast cells. Hence, the CXCR4-CXCL12 chemokine pathway is a novel therapeutic target in the prevention of UV-induced skin cancer

    The Effects of Air Flow in the Wake of a Large Vehicle on Trailing a Passenger Car

    Road driving condition under drafting is known to have an influence on the aerodynamic forces of the vehicle. Large vehicles such as busses and trucks traveling at high speeds give results in the formation of a large turbulent flow in the wake region. This turbulent flow is very unsteady in nature hence its influence on the air flow within its vicinity will also be unsteady. This paper investigates the relative values of drag and lift forces acting on a passenger car trailing a large vehicle (drafting) under unsteady conditions. The simulation is conducted using Computational Fluid Dynamics software, FLUENT for a two-dimensional flow domain at Re 3.18x106 for a trailing distance of 0 to 30 meters. The unsteady effect is studied at 15 time intervals for each time step. Turbulence is simulated using the Reynolds-Average Navier Stokes (RANS) k-ε model. Results show that aerodynamically, the critical drafting distance is between three to five meters where the lowest drag is found to occur at three meters. The results show the suitable distance for drafting which may serve as useful information for vehicle fuel economy and stability

    Ultra-Rare Variants Identify Biological Pathways and Candidate Genes in the Pathobiology of Non-Syndromic Cleft Palate Only

    : In recent decades, many efforts have been made to elucidate the genetic causes of non-syndromic cleft palate (nsCPO), a complex congenital disease caused by the interaction of several genetic and environmental factors. Since genome-wide association studies have evidenced a minor contribution of common polymorphisms in nsCPO inheritance, we used whole exome sequencing data to explore the role of ultra-rare variants in this study. In a cohort of 35 nsCPO cases and 38 controls, we performed a gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and a hypergeometric test for assessing significant overlap between genes implicated in nsCPO pathobiology and genes enriched in ultra-rare variants in our cohort. GSEA highlighted an enrichment of ultra-rare variants in genes principally belonging to cytoskeletal protein binding pathway (Probability Density Function corrected p-value = 1.57 × 10-4); protein-containing complex binding pathway (p-value = 1.06 × 10-2); cell adhesion molecule binding pathway (p-value = 1.24 × 10-2); ECM-receptor interaction pathway (p-value = 1.69 × 10-2); and in the Integrin signaling pathway (p-value = 1.28 × 10-2). Two genes implicated in nsCPO pathobiology, namely COL2A1 and GLI3, ranked among the genes (n = 34) with nominal enrichment in the ultra-rare variant collapsing analysis (Fisher's exact test p-value < 0.05). These genes were also part of an independent list of genes highly relevant to nsCPO biology (n = 25). Significant overlap between the two sets of genes (hypergeometric test p-value = 5.86 × 10-3) indicated that enriched genes are likely to be implicated in physiological palate development and/or the pathological processes of oral clefting. In conclusion, ultra-rare variants collectively impinge on biological pathways crucial to nsCPO pathobiology and point to candidate genes that may contribute to the individual risk of disease. Sequencing can be an effective approach to identify candidate genes and pathways for nsCPO

    Recurrence and higher ergodic properties for quenched random Lorentz tubes in dimension bigger than two

    We consider the billiard dynamics in a non-compact set of R^d that is constructed as a bi-infinite chain of translated copies of the same d-dimensional polytope. A random configuration of semi-dispersing scatterers is placed in each copy. The ensemble of dynamical systems thus defined, one for each global realization of the scatterers, is called `quenched random Lorentz tube'. Under some fairly general conditions, we prove that every system in the ensemble is hyperbolic and almost every system is recurrent, ergodic, and enjoys some higher chaotic properties.Comment: Final version for J.
