    CaractĂ©risation des sols de la vallĂ©e rizicole de Tamra dans l’üle de Mar, Centre-Ouest du SĂ©nĂ©gal

    Tamra est une vallĂ©e trĂšs sollicitĂ©e pour la culture du riz par les  populations des quatre villages implantĂ©s dans l’üle de Mar. L’étude pĂ©dologique a Ă©tĂ© menĂ©e suivant trois toposĂ©quences transversales le long de la vallĂ©e. Les diffĂ©rents types de sols rencontrĂ©s dans ce milieu fluvio-marin sont disposĂ©s d’une maniĂšre quasi-concentrique autour de la vallĂ©e. Les sols sont affectĂ©s par le processus de salinisation et d’acidification. Les causes principales de l’avancĂ©e de ce biseau salĂ© le long de la vallĂ©e seraient liĂ©es Ă  l’environnement climatique peu favorable qui sĂ©vit depuis plusieurs annĂ©es et qui s’exprime par des sĂ©cheresses rĂ©currentes. La texture sableuse de ces sols, Ă  dominance de sables fins, et leur niveau topographique font que certains d’entre eux sont exceptionnellement inondĂ©s. Ainsi, la rĂ©alisation d’une carte d’aptitude culturale des sols s’impose pour une meilleure utilisation des terres de la vallĂ©e de Tamra.Mots clĂ©s : Tamra, sols, fertilitĂ©, salinisation, acidification

    Molecular characterization of SSS139, a new satellite DNA family in sibling species of the Drosophila buzzatii cluster

    We characterized sequences of a novel SSS139 RsaI satellite DNA family in Drosophila gouveai and Drosophila seriema, two members of the Drosophila buzzatii cluster (D. repleta group). The sequences were AT-rich (69%) with a monomer unit length of about 139 bp and contained two direct subrepeats of 14 bp and 16 bp, suggesting that it might have originated by the duplication of smaller sequences. Southern and dot-blot hybridization analyses also detected SSS139 in other Drosophila buzzatii cluster species (D. koepferae, D. antonietae, D. borborema and D. serido) but not in D. buzzatii.     Differences in and correlates of sexual function in infertile women with and without polycystic ovary syndrome

    Background: The aim of this study was to examine sexual function and its correlates among infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in comparison with their non-PCOS counterparts. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, 209 infertile women (116 PCOS and 93 non-PCOS) from Tehran, Iran, were evaluated in February and March 2018. Female sexual function index (FSFI), hormonal status, and documented reports of hyperandrogenic manifestations of the patients were investigated. Results: The mean age of the patients was 32.00 ± 5.00 years old. Eighty-four (40.2) patients including 42.2 of the PCOS patients and 37.6 of the non-PCOS cases (P>0.05), were suspected of female sexual dysfunction (FSD). The most impaired functions in both groups were desire and arousal. Sexual function was not significantly different between the groups. However, PCOS women had more orgasm problems and acne worsened their sexual function. Total FSFI was positively associated with prolactin level but negatively associated with central obesity in the non-PCOS group; it was negatively correlated with marital duration in the PCOS group. Luteinizing hormone (LH) and pain, prolactin level and lubrication, and central obesity and arousal were correlated in the non-PCOS women. Prolactin level and orgasm, marital duration and arousal, and marital duration and the total FSFI were correlated in the PCOS women. Conclusion: Sexual function was similarly low in infertile PCOS and non-PCOS women. However, orgasm problems and the negative effect of acne varied between the two groups. Further investigations may target how hormonal profile may affect sexual function. Practitioners should scrutinize the specific impaired sexual domains and their correlated conditions in PCOS women, notably orgasm, acne, and prolactin level.     Description Avec le vieillissement de la population, survient la dĂ©mence dans la population de personnes ĂągĂ©es. Objectif. L’objectif de cette Ă©tude Ă©tait d’estimer la prĂ©valence de cette affection dans une population de personnes ĂągĂ©es sĂ©nĂ©galaises. MĂ©thodes Par une Ă©tude transversale qui s’est dĂ©roulĂ©e du 01 mars 2004 au 31 dĂ©cembre 2005, des personnes ĂągĂ©es de 55 ans et plus venant consulter pour un problĂšme de santĂ© au Centre MĂ©dico-Social et Universitaire de l’IPRES (SĂ©nĂ©gal) ont Ă©tĂ© Ă©valuĂ©es sur le plan clinique et neuropsychologique. Des donnĂ©es sur les caractĂ©ristiques sociodĂ©mographiques, les antĂ©cĂ©dents mĂ©dico-chirurgicaux et familiaux, le mode de vie, le rĂ©seau social ont Ă©tĂ© collectĂ©es Ă  l’aide d’un questionnaire structurĂ© avec des rĂ©ponses fermĂ©es. RĂ©sultat La population Ă  l’étude Ă©tait composĂ©e de 872 personnes. Elles avaient un Ăąge moyen de 67,2 ans ± 7,5.Elles Ă©taient de sexe masculin (62,6%), mariĂ©es (79%), non instruites (50,7%). Dans les antĂ©cĂ©dents, l’HTA, le diabĂšte, les affections respiratoires, les affections rhumatismales, la cataracte et les troublesdigestifs Ă©taient les plus frĂ©quents. Le tabagisme et l’alcoolisme Ă©tait faible alors que la marche constituait la principale activitĂ© physique. Les personnes ĂągĂ©es vivaient en famille avec un bon rĂ©seau social.Cinquante huit (58) personnes ont prĂ©sentĂ© une dĂ©mence (6,6%). La prĂ©valence de la maladie variait de maniĂšre significative avec l’ñge et l’instruction. Conclusion Ce rĂ©sultat confirme que la prĂ©valence de la dĂ©mence varie en fonction de l’ñge et de l’instruction de la personne ĂągĂ©e

    Safety and immunogenicity of a synthetic nanoparticle-based, T cell priming peptide vaccine against dengue in healthy adults in Switzerland: a double-blind, randomized, vehicle-controlled, phase 1 study.

    Vaccines that minimize the risk of vaccine-induced antibody-dependent enhancement and severe dengue are needed to address the global health threat posed by dengue. This study assessed the safety and immunogenicity of a gold nanoparticle (GNP)-based, multi-valent, synthetic peptide dengue vaccine candidate (PepGNP-Dengue), designed to provide protective CD8+ T cell immunity, without inducing antibodies. In this randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled, phase 1 trial (NCT04935801), healthy naĂŻve individuals aged 18-45 years recruited at the Centre for primary care and public health, Lausanne, Switzerland, were randomly assigned to receive PepGNP-Dengue or comparator (GNP without peptides [vehicle-GNP]). Randomization was stratified into four groups (low dose [LD] and high dose [HD]), allocation was double-blind from participants and investigators. Two doses were administered by intradermal microneedle injection 21 days apart. Primary outcome was safety, secondary outcome immunogenicity. Analysis was by intention-to-treat for safety, intention-to-treat and per protocol for immunogenicity. 26 participants were enrolled (August-September 2021) to receive PepGNP-Dengue (LD or HD, n = 10 each) or vehicle-GNP (LD or HD, n = 3 each). No vaccine-related serious adverse events occurred. Most (90%) related adverse events were mild; injection site pain and transient discoloration were most frequently reported. Injection site erythema occurred in 58% of participants. As expected, PepGNP-Dengue did not elicit anti-DENV antibodies of significance. Significant increases were observed in specific CD8+ T cells and dengue dextramer+ memory cell subsets in the LD PepGNP-Dengue but not in the HD PepGNP-Dengue or vehicle-GNP groups, specifically PepGNP-activated CD137+CD69+CD8+ T cells (day 90, +0.0318%, 95% CI: 0.0088-0.1723, p = 0.046), differentiated effector memory (TemRA) and central memory (Tcm) CD8+ T cells (day 35, +0.8/10 <sup>5</sup> CD8+, 95% CI: 0.19-5.13, p = 0.014 and +1.34/10 <sup>5</sup> CD8+, 95% CI: 0.1-7.34, p = 0.024, respectively). Results provide proof of concept that a synthetic nanoparticle-based peptide vaccine can successfully induce virus-specific CD8+ T cells.
