    Foreign Direct Investment, Domestic Investment, and Economic Growth in China: A Time Series Analysis

    In this paper, we investigate the causal link between foreign direct investment (FDI), domestic investment and economic growth in China for the period 1988-2003. Towards this purpose, a multivariate VAR system with error correction model (ECM) and the innovation accounting (variance decomposition and impulse response function analysis) techniques are used. The results show that while there is a bi-directional causality between domestic investment and economic growth, there is only a single-directional causality from FDI to domestic investment and to economic growth. Rather than crowding out domestic investment, FDI is found to be complementary with domestic investment. Thus, FDI has not only assisted in overcoming shortage of capital, it has also stimulated economic growth through complementing domestic investment in China.foreign direct investment, domestic investment, economic growth, multivariate VAR system, error correction model

    A multimedia visualization tool for solving mechanics dynamics problem

    The objective of this research is to complement and enhanced traditional tutorial teaching and learning by incorporating multimedia technology. In this case study, the development of a PC base virtual experiment for mechanics dynamics problem involving the motion of a projectile that is taught in the second year of the mechanical engineering undergraduate course at University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) is described. The developed prototype tool was found to be effective in promoting learning and the outcome of this research revealed that multimedia approach enhanced user understanding of the underlying theory of engineering mechanics, promote interactivity as well as visualization and users are able to solve engineering problem such as motion of a projectile quickly and efficiently.The objective of this research is to complement and enhanced traditional tutorial teaching and learning by incorporating multimedia technology.     The customer satisfaction status towards core governmental services in Malaysia

    This present study examines the level of customer satisfaction of three government agencies Royal Malaysian Police (RMP), National Registration Department (NRD), and the Public Works Department (PWD) in Malaysia. Studies on these three government agencies were conducted in Selangor, Johor, Perak, and Pulau Pinang since these agencies in these states received the highest complaint from consumers. A total of 270 employees and 627 customers from these three agencies of the four states were the respondents of the present study. Results showed customers are not satisfied with the services given by the government agencies (RMP, NRD, and PWD). Therefore, efforts to improve employee’s attitudes, and more reforms in the areas of work should be continued by the Government of Malaysia in government agencies in order to maintain the excellent work

    Perceived health related risks of vaping among undergraduate students in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia

    Background: Vaping has become a new trend used by people globally. This study aimed to determine the perceived health risks of vaping and the associated factors among undergraduate health-related students in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 570 undergraduate students in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang. The respondents were those who were enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor in Nursing, Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Occupational Health), Bachelor of Science (Biomedicine), Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Community Health) and Bachelor of Science (Dietetics) programmes. Data was collected using validated self-administered questionnaire. Statistical significance was considered at p – value < 0.05 (with a confidence limit at 95 %). Result: Majority of the respondents were young adults (97.9%), female (65.6%), Malay (72.4%), non-smoker (94.4%), had poor knowledge on health-related risks of vaping (59.1%), had more favourable attitude towards vaping (52.1%), were not influenced by mass media (56.7%) and perceived vaping as harmful (51.9%). Factors were significantly associated with perceptions towards health related risks of vaping were gender (X2= 11.504, p=0.001), knowledge (X2=8.408, p=0.004) and attitude (X2= 20.179, p<0.001). Conclusion: The students perceived vaping as harmful and had more favourable attitude towards vaping. However, the knowledge related to health related risks of vaping was poor despite being medical and health sciences students which reflects the need for more programmes to create better awareness and knowledge which may include the use mass media as a medium to deliver the information

    The comparison of solar-powered hydrogen closed-cycle system capacities for selected locations

    The exhaustion of fossil fuels causes decarbonized industries to be powered by renewable energy sources and, owing to their intermittent nature, it is important to devise an efficient energy storage method. To make them more sustainable, a storage system is required. Modern electricity storage systems are based on different types of chemical batteries, electromechanical devices, and hydrogen power plants. However, the parameters of power plant components vary from one geographical location to another. The idea of the present research is to compare the composition of a solar-powered hydrogen processing closed-cycle power plant among the selected geographical locations (Russia, India, and Australia), assuming the same power consumption conditions, but different insolation conditions, and thus the hydrogen equipment capacity accordingly. The number of solar modules in an array is different, thus the required hydrogen tank capacity is also different. The comparison of equipment requires building an uninterrupted power supply for the selected geographical locations, which shows that the capacity of the equipment components would be significantly different. These numbers may serve as the base for further economic calculations of energy cost

    Examining the role of Donald Trump and his supporters in the 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol: A dual-agency model of identity leadership and engaged followership

    This paper develops a dual-agency model of leadership which treats collective phenomena as a co-production between leaders and followers. The model integrates work on identity leadership and engaged followership derived from the social identity tradition in social psychology. In contrast to binary models in which leaders or followers are seen to have agency, this argues that leaders gain influence by framing the agency of their followers and defining the parameters of their action but leaving space for creativity in how their goals are accomplished. Followers in turn, exhibit their loyalty and attachment to the leader by competing to be most effective in advancing these goals. We illustrate the model by drawing on a range of sources, most notably the events of 6th January 2021 when Donald Trump’s exhortations to his supporters that they should ‘fight’ to ‘stop the steal’ of the 2020 election was followed by an attack on the Capitol. We argue that it is Trump’s willing participation in this mutual process of identity enactment, rather than any instructions which may (or may not) have been contained in his speech, that should be the basis for assessing his influence on, and responsibility for, the assault.</p
