Investigation on Harmonic Tuning for Active Ku-Band Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antennas
A slot-coupled rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) operating in the 14–14.5 GHz frequency band is investigated as a possible radiating element for an active integrated antenna of a transmitting phased array. The effectiveness of the resonator shape factor on achieving harmonic tuning is addressed. Simulation results show that the DRA shape factor can be used to provide a fine tuning of the DRA input impedance both at the fundamental frequency and its first harmonics, so synthesizing the proper load for the optimization of the microwave amplifier power-added efficiency (PAE)
Time on a Rotating Platform
Traditional clock synchronisation on a rotating platform is shown to be
incompatible with the experimentally established transformation of time. The
latter transformation leads directly to solve this problem through noninvariant
one-way speed of light. The conventionality of some features of relativity
theory allows full compatibility with existing experimental evidence.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, no figure. Copies available at [email protected]

The Harari-Shupe preon model and nonrelativistic quantum phase space
We propose that the whole algebraic structure of the Harari-Shupe rishon
model originates via a Dirac-like linearization of quadratic form x^2+p^2, with
position and momentum satisfying standard commutation relations. The scheme
does not invoke the concept of preons as spin-1/2 subparticles, thus evading
the problem of preon confinement, while fully explaining all symmetries emboded
in the Harari-Shupe model. Furthermore, the concept of quark colour is
naturally linked to the ordering of rishons. Our scheme leads to group
U(1)xSU(3) combined with SU(2), with two of the SU(2) generators not commuting
with reflections. An interpretation of intra-generation quark-lepton
transformations in terms of genuine rotations and reflections in phase space is
proposed
Clinical relevance of intrahepatic hepatitis B virus DNA in HBsAg-negative HBcAb-positive patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for hematological malignancies.
Hepatitis flare-up due to hepatitis
B virus (HBV) is a well-recognized complication

Quantitative analysis of extensional joints in the southern Adriatic foreland (Italy), and the active tectonics of the Apulia region
The Adriatic foreland of the Apennines comes ashore only in Apulia (easternmost Italy). Its southern part, our study area, lacks any structural analysis devoted to define its recent-to-active tectonics. Throughout the Quaternary, this region was affected by mild brittle deformation with rare faults, characterized by small displacement, and widespread extension joints, frequently organized in sets. Therefore, we conducted a quantitative and systematic analysis of the joint sets affecting Quaternary deposits, by applying an inversion technique ad hoc to infer the orientation and ratio of the principal stress axes, R = (σ2 - σ3)/(σ1 - σ3). Within a general extensional regime, we recognized three deformational events of regional significance. The oldest event, constrained to the early and middle part of the Middle Pleistocene, is characterized by variable direction of extension and R between 0.64-0.99. The penultimate event, dated late Middle Pleistocene, is characterized by an almost uniaxial tension, with a horizontal σ3 striking ~N43°E; R is high, between 0.85-0.99. The most recent event is characterized by the lowermost R values, that never exceed 0.47 and are frequently <0.30, indicating a sort of horizontal „radial‟ extension. This event is not older than the Late Pleistocene and possibly reflects the active stress field still dominating the entire study area
A direct kinematical derivation of the relativistic Sagnac effect for light or matter beams
The Sagnac time delay and the corresponding Sagnac phase shift, for
relativistic matter and electromagnetic beams counter-propagating in a rotating
interferometer, are deduced on the ground of relativistic kinematics. This
purely kinematical approach allows to explain the ''universality'' of the
effect, namely the fact that the Sagnac time difference does not depend on the
physical nature of the interfering beams. The only prime requirement is that
the counter-propagating beams have the same velocity with respect to any
Einstein synchronized local co-moving inertial frame.Comment: 10 pages, 1 EPS figure, to appear in General Relativity and

PVDF/BaTiO3 composite foams with high content of β phase by thermally induced phase separation (TIPS)
Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) displays ferroelectric, piezoelectric and pyroelectric behavior and it is widely used in high-tech applications including sensors, transducers, energy harvesting devices and actuators. The crystallization of this polymer into highly polar β phase is desirable but is hard to achieve without applying specific thermo-mechanical treatments. Indeed, fabrication processes directly affect PVDF molecular chain conformation, inducing distinct polymorphs. In this paper, we present the fabrication of PVDF/BaTiO3 composite foams by thermally induced phase separation method (TIPS). Different compositions are tested and characterized. The crystallinity, and in particular the development of electroactive β crystal phase is monitored by FTIR, DSC and XRD measurements. Dielectric properties are also evaluated. It turns out that TIPS is a straightforward method that clearly promotes the spontaneous growth of the β phase in PVDF and its composite foams, without the need to apply additional treatments, and also significantly improves the degree of crystallinity. BaTiO3 content gives additional value to the development of β phase and total crystallinity of the systems. The low permittivity values (between 2 and 3), combined with the cellular morphology makes these materials suitable as lightweight components of microelectronic circuits
Kochen-Specker theorem for a single qubit using positive operator-valued measures
A proof of the Kochen-Specker theorem for a single two-level system is
presented. It employs five eight-element positive operator-valued measures and
a simple algebraic reasoning based on the geometry of the dodecahedron.Comment: REVTeX4, 4 pages, 2 figure
Locality hypothesis and the speed of light
The locality hypothesis is generally considered necessary for the study of
the kinematics of non-inertial systems in special relativity. In this paper we
discuss this hypothesis, showing the necessity of an improvement, in order to
get a more clear understanding of the various concepts involved, like
coordinate velocity and standard velocity of light. Concrete examples are
shown, where these concepts are discussed.Comment: 23 page
