Sexual violence against children occurs in various places with various types of sexual violence. The majority of victims of sexual violence are children who have social problems example : poverty, children with disabilities and abandoned children who have no education and protection of the family is enough. Therefore, a program of social assistance is necessary. Wonogiri government show concern for child victims of sexual violence by launching Wonogiri Regulation 2 of 2013 on the implementation of the protection of victims of gender-based violence and child and continues to form an Integrated Services Center for Women and Children (P2TP2A) in 2013 as an intermediary between local government and child victims of sexual violence with social problem in a program of social assistance. This study aim is to know the origin Wonogiri local governments establish service centers Integrated Women and children as well as describe the performance of the programs Integrated Services Center for Women and Children on District Wonogiri to child victims of sexual violence with social problem. Data were collected through observation, interviews and related research. Qualitative data analysis techniques with analyzing in the form of description, depiction and conclusions on the object under study. From this research, it can be concluded that since forming Integrated Services Center for Women and Children assistance to child victims of sexual violence in Wonogiri social problems can be managed properly. Management program performance of assistance done by them already effective and sustainable as well as cooperation among agencies and civil society are evolving very helpful in improving the welfare of child victims of sexual abuse, although the lack of human resources from the Integrated Service Center of Women and children (P2TP2A) and lack of supervision of the Local Government in the performance of the related SKPD when doing assistance program an obstacle than an assistance program was established

Establishing a Conditional Signal for Assistance in Teenagers with Blindness

Five teenagers with severe intellectual impairments and no discernible communication skills were enrolled in training to teach a conditional request for assistance using a speech-generating device (SGD). All were either blind or severely visually impaired since birth. All learned to operate an adaptive switch to control sensory outcomes, next showed preferences among sensory outcomes, and then demonstrated the ability to use their switch to signal for assistance with an SGD when the sensory outcome was remotely disabled. During the signaling phase, or subsequent attempts to generalize its use outside the laboratory, 3 participants began vocalizing. Most notably, they began imitation of the word “song” or the word “help” emitted by the SGD. The potential role of cause-and-effect training with adaptive switches is discussed

Discovery of oligosaccharide antigens for semi-synthetic glycoconjugate vaccine leads against Streptococcus suis serotypes 2, 3, 9 and 14

Streptococcus suis bacteria are one of the most serious health problems for pigs and an emerging zoonotic agent in humans working in the swine industry. S. suis bacteria express capsular polysaccharides (CPS) a major bacterial virulence factor that define the serotypes. Oligosaccharides resembling the CPS of S. suis serotypes 2, 3, 9, and 14 have been synthesized, glycans related to serotype 2 and 9 were placed on glycan array surfaces to screen blood from infected pigs. Lead antigens for the development of semi-synthetic S. suis serotype 2 and 9 glycoconjugate veterinary vaccines were identified in this way

Characterizing Recurrent Positive Selection at Fast-Evolving Genes in Drosophila miranda and Drosophila pseudoobscura

Characterizing the distribution of selection coefficients in natural populations remains a central challenge in evolutionary biology. We resequenced a subset of 19 fast-evolving protein-coding genes in the sister species Drosophila miranda and D. pseudoobscura and their flanking regions to characterize the spatial footprint left by recurrent and recent selection. Consistent with previous findings, fast-evolving genes and their flanking regions show reduced levels of neutral diversity compared with randomly chosen genes, as expected under recurrent selection models. Applying a variety of statistical tests designed for the detection of selection at different evolutionary timescales, we attempt to characterize parameters of adaptive evolution. In D. miranda, fast-evolving genes generally show evidence of increased rates of adaptive evolution relative to random genes, whereas this pattern is somewhat less pronounced in D. pseudoobscura. Our results suggest that fast-evolving genes are not characterized by significantly different selection coefficients but rather a shift in the distribution of the rate of fixation

Making sense of number words and Arabic digits: Does order count more?

The ability to choose the larger between two numbers reflects a mature understanding of the magnitude associated with numerical symbols. The present study explores how the knowledge of the number sequence and memory capacity (verbal and visuospatial) relate to number comparison skills while controlling for cardinal knowledge. Preschool children’s (N = 140, Mage‐in‐months = 58.9, range = 41–75) knowledge of the directional property of the counting list as well as the spatial mapping of digits on the visual line were assessed. The ability to order digits on the visual line mediated the relation between memory capacity and number comparison skills while controlling for cardinal knowledge. Beyond cardinality, the knowledge of the (spatial) order of numbers marks the understanding of the magnitude associated with numbers

Node counting in wireless ad-hoc networks

    Get PDF
We study wireless ad-hoc networks consisting of small microprocessors with limited memory, where the wireless communication between the processors can be highly unreliable. For this setting, we propose a number of algorithms to estimate the number of nodes in the network, and the number of direct neighbors of each node. The algorithms are simulated, allowing comparison of their performance

Who gains more: experts or novices? The benefits of interaction under numerical uncertainty

    Get PDF
Interacting to reach a shared decision is an omnipresent component of human collaboration. We explored the interaction between dyads of individuals with different levels of expertise. The members of the dyads completed a number line task privately, jointly and privately again. In the joint condition, dyad members shared their private estimates and then negotiated a joint estimate. Both dyad members averaged their private individual estimates to determine joint estimates, thereby showing a strong equality bias. Their performance in the joint condition exceeded the performance of the dyad’s best estimator, demonstrating interaction benefit, only when the dyad members had similar levels of expertise and when the averaged dyad performance was sufficiently accurate. At the end of the task, participants rated their and their partner’s level of competence. Participants were accurate in classifying themselves as the expert or the novice within the dyad. Nevertheless, novices tended to overestimate their ability as they admitted to being less competent but only slightly worse than their expert partner. Experts, instead, believed themselves to be more competent but were humble and considered their performance only marginally better than their partner. Overall, these results have important implications for settings in which people with different levels of expertise interact
