    Analysis for inter turn stator fault with load variation in Induction Motor

    This paper investigates the impact of load variation on the diagnosis of inter-turn stator faults in induction machines. The proposed detection technique relies on the analysis of stator current using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) in both normal and faulty states of the machine. The energy of the approximation and detail signals obtained from DWT provides valuable information about the machine's health and the severity of the inter-turn stator faults. Experimental tests were conducted using a dSpace 1104 signal card-based interface to study the load effects in detecting and diagnosing stator inter-turn short circuit faults in induction motor

    Experimental diagnosis of inter-turns stator fault and unbalanced voltage supply in induction motor using MCSA and DWER

    This paper presents a comparative study between two techniques of signal processing to diagnose both faults the inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) in stator windings and the unbalanced voltage supply (UVS) in induction motors. The first is considered a classical technique called Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) which is based on the processing of the stator current by the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The second is anadvanced technique based on a Discrete Wavelet Energy Ratio (DWER) of three stator currents. The aim objective of this paper is to compare the ability and effectiveness of both techniques to detect the ITSC fault and the UVS in induction motors, and distinguishing between them. An experimental implementation tests the two diagnosis techniques.The results obtained show that the MCAS technique by the FFT analysis has a difficult to discriminate between the current harmonics due to the provide voltage unbalance and those originated by ITSC faults. Unlike the DWERtechnique, which has high sensitivity and exceptional ability to detect and distinguish between the two faults that lead to the reliability of the diagnosis system. To demonstrate that the DWER is an accurate and robust diagnosis approach are used the neural network (NN) as a tool to classify the faults (ITSC and USV) where using DWER indicators as NN input. The results obtained of combination between the DWER and NN are effective and proved its ability to detect both faults under different load conditions and distinguish between them accurately with low error (10-5)

    Influence of gravel and adjuvant on the compressive strength and water absorption of concrete

    Concrete is the most commonly used material in civil engineering, given its economic cost and ease of manufacture. Its strength depends on the characteristics of its constituents. A good mix makes it possible to build solid, durable and economical structures. The present work aims to characterize the gravel of the Eastern region (quarry of eastern Morocco) by granulometric analysis and water absorption. Then, the studied gravel is used to produce three types of concrete (B20, B25 and B30), which were assessed in terms of water absorption and compressive strength. The last step is to study the effect of an adjuvant, more specifically a water reducer, on mechanical characteristics of local concrete. B25 concrete was chosen for the last step since it is the most used type in the region. Results show that adding a water reducer adjuvant, in this case ‘Chrysoplast’, can improve the compressive strength of concrete if the percentage added is accurately determined

    Seismic analysis of the zaouiat ait mellal twin tunnels of Agadir motorway (Morocco)

    Proceeding of: Seventh International Congress 'Water, Waste and Environment" (EDE7-2019), Salé, Morocco, November 20-22, 2019Underground structures, such as tunnels, are vital for ensuring all kinds of transportation; and being buried under the surface makes them exposed to soil dynamics. Added to the moderate seismic activity in Morocco, the stability of tunnels is put to the test. This paper examines the interaction between the ZAM (Zaouit Ait Mellal ) twin tunnels between the cities of Marrakesh and Agadir, using the Difference Element Method provided by FLAC 2D software. The acceleration is introduced as the one related to the historic event of El centro 1940 with free-field boundary conditions in the numerical model, with three configurations: tunnel 1 without tunnel 2, tunnel 2 without tunnel 1 and tunnel 1 with tunnel 2. The results of the simulations indicate that the differences values of the maximum displacement, axial force and bending moment on structural elements are very noteworthy from the configuration of the tunnel (single) to the twin tunnels in order to prove the interaction between these latter under seismic loading

    Numerical analysis of twin tunnels lining under different seismic conditions

    The last seismic events showed that tunnel lining may suffer extensive damage. Employing numerical modeling has a great importance in predicting the seismic performance of tunnels. This paper tests the tunnel lining of the Zaouit Ait Mellal (ZAM) twin tunnels located between the cities of Marrakesh and Agadir in Morocco. Dynamic analysis was adopted by FLAC 2D software using the finite-difference elements. Four soil cross-sections were chosen, with different support devices installed along the twin tunnels, such as rock bolts and steel ribs. The seismic signals introduced as input were obtained from three different earthquakes: Al Hoceima 2004 in Morocco, EL Centro 1940 in the USA, and Kobe 1995 in Japan. The numerical results show that the deformation of the tunnel lining is more noteworthy in the sections using steel ribs compared to those using rock bolts, which is observed by the large values of relative displacement, reaching 1020 (mm) and 2.29 × 105 (N.m/m) of maximum bending moment. The analysis indicates that these sections present higher vulnerability during an earthquake, which should be considered when looking at the overall safety of the tunnel

It is demonstrated by the large seismic episodes reported in seismic catalogs and research studies. However, seismic risk is relatively high due to vulnerable buildings that are either old or don’t respect seismic standards. Our aim is to present a study about seismic risk and seismic scenarios for the city of Al Hoceima. The seismic vulnerability of the existing residential buildings was evaluated using the vulnerability index method (Risk-UE). It was chosen to be adapted and applied to the Moroccan constructions for its practicality and simple methodology. A visual inspection of 1102 buildings was carried out to assess the vulnerability factors. As for seismic hazard, it was evaluated in terms of macroseismic intensity for two scenarios (a deterministic and probabilistic scenario). The maps of seismic risk are represented by direct damage on buildings, damage to population and economic cost. According to the results, the main vulnerability index of the city is equal to 0.49 and the seismic risk is estimated as Slight (main damage grade equal to 0.9 for the deterministic scenario and 0.7 for the probabilistic scenario). However, Moderate to heavy damage is expected in areas located in the newer extensions, in both the east and west of the city. Important economic losses and damage to the population are expected in these areas as well. The maps elaborated can be a potential guide to the decision making in the field of seismic risk prevention and mitigation strategies in Al Hoceima.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

    Potential Seismic Damage Assessment of Residential Buildings in Imzouren City (Northern Morocco)

    The main purpose of this study is to assess seismic risk and present earthquake loss scenarios for the city of Imzouren, in northern Morocco. An empirical approach was chosen to assess the seismic vulnerability of the existing buildings, using the Vulnerability Index Method (RISK-UE), and considering two earthquake scenarios (deterministic and probabilistic). Special concern was given to the seismic vulnerability in Imzouren since the 2004 earthquake (24 February, mw = 6.4) that struck the region and caused substantial damage. A site investigation was conducted in the city targeting more than 3000 residential buildings, which had been closely examined and catalogued to assess their seismic vulnerability. The results of the seismic risk assessment in the city are represented through damage to the buildings, harm to the population and economic loss. Generally, the results obtained from the deterministic approach are in agreement with the damage caused by the 2004 earthquake

    Experimental Diagnosis of Broken Rotor Bar Faults in Induction Motors at Low Slip via Hilbert Envelope and Optimized Subtractive Clustering Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System

    Knowledge of the distinctive frequencies and amplitudes of broken rotor bar (BRB) faults in the induction motor (IM) is essential for most fault diagnosis methods. Fast Fourier transform (FFT) is widely applied to diagnose the faults within BRBs. However, this method does not provide satisfactory results if it is applied directly to the stator current signal at low slip because a high-resolution spectrum is required to separate the different components of the frequency. To address this problem, this paper proposes an efficient method based on a Hilbert fast Fourier transform (HFFT) approach, which is used to extract the envelope from the stator current using the Hilbert transform (HT) at low slip. Then, the stator current envelope is analyzed using the fast Fourier transform (FFT) to obtain the amplitude and frequency of the particular harmonic. These data were recently collected and selected as BRB fault features and were employed as adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) inputs for BRB fault autodiagnosis and classification. To identify the BRB defect by determining the number of broken bars in the rotor, two ANFIS models are proposed: ANFIS grid partitioning (ANFIS-GP) and ANFIS-subtractive clustering (ANFIS-SC). To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, three different motors were used during experiments under various loads; the first was with one broken bar, the second was with two adjacent broken bars, and the third was a healthy motor. The obtained results confirmed the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed method, which is based on the combination of HFFT-ANFIS-SC to diagnose the BRB faults and quantify the number of broken bars under different load conditions (under low and high slip) precisely with minimal errors (this method had an MSE of 10-14 and 10-7 for the RMSE) compared to the method based on the combination of HFFT-ANFIS-GP
