An Exploratory Study of Risk Perception for Data Disclosure to a Network of Firms

    Get PDF
Research on the Privacy Calculus, which explains individuals\u27 intention to disclose personal data, mostly focuses on dyadic disclosures in which individuals disclose data to a single firm. So far, little attention has been paid to understand the characteristics of data disclosures to a network of firms. We refer to data sharing of firms in a network as Business Network Data Exchange (BNDE). We explore risk perception for data disclosures in a BNDE context based on an exploratory survey. Our results indicate that risk perception for data disclosures in the BNDE context deviates from rational risk perception theory. In particular, individuals perceive the risk to disclose data to a network of two firms as lower than the maximum risk of the separate dyadic data disclosures. These results portend the need for an adapted and nuanced view on perceived risks in this context and have important practical implications for data-sharing among firms

Evidential strategies in financial statement analysis: a corpus linguistic text mining approach to bankruptcy prediction

The qualitative information of companies’ financial statements provides useful information that can increase the accuracy of bankruptcy prediction models. In this research, a dataset of 924,903 financial statements from 355,704 German companies classified into solvent, financially distressed, and bankrupt companies using the Amadeus database from Bureau van Dijk was examined. The results provide empirical evidence that a corpus linguistic approach implementing evidential strategy analysis towards financial statements helps to distinguish between companies’ financial situations. They show that companies use different approaches and confidence assessments when evaluating their financial statements based on solvency and vary their use of evidential strategies accordingly. This leads to the proposition of a procedure to quantify and generate features based on the analysis of evidential strategies that can be used to improve corporate bankruptcy prediction. The results presented here stem from an interdisciplinary adaptation of linguistic findings and provide future research with another means of analysis in the area of text mining

Ultrafast photocurrents at the surface of the three-dimensional topological insulator Bi2Se3\mathrm{Bi}_2\mathrm{Se}_3

Topological insulators constitute a new and fascinating class of matter with insulating bulk yet metallic surfaces that host highly mobile charge carriers with spin-momentum locking. Remarkably, the direction and magnitude of surface currents can be controlled with tailored light beams, but the underlying mechanisms are not yet well understood. To directly resolve the "birth" of such photocurrents we need to boost the time resolution to the scale of elementary scattering events (\sim 10 fs). Here, we excite and measure photocurrents in the three-dimensional model topological insulator Bi2Se3\mathrm{Bi}_2\mathrm{Se}_3 with a time resolution as short as 20 fs by sampling the concomitantly emitted broadband THz electromagnetic field from 1 to 40 THz. Remarkably, the ultrafast surface current response is dominated by a charge transfer along the Se-Bi bonds. In contrast, photon-helicity-dependent photocurrents are found to have orders of magnitude smaller magnitude than expected from generation scenarios based on asymmetric depopulation of the Dirac cone. Our findings are also of direct relevance for optoelectronic devices based on topological-insulator surface currents

Background Measurements in the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory

The gamma background flux below 3000 keV in the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Italy, has been measured using a 3" diameter NaI(Tl) detector at different underground positions: In hall A, hall B, the interferometer tunnel, and inside the Large Volume Detector (LVD). The integrated flux is 0.3--0.4 s1^{-1}cm2^{-2} at the first three locations, and is lower by two orders of magnitude inside LVD. With the help of Monte Carlo simulations for every location, the contribution of the individual primordial isotopes to the background has been determined. Using an 11" diameter NaI(Tl) detector, the background neutron flux in the LNGS interferometer tunnel has been estimated. Within the uncertainties, the result agrees with those from other neutron measurements in the main halls.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, accepted versio

Methodology for Holistic Innovation Management and Order Processing Using the Example of the Tailored Forming Technology

Process and organizational innovations can create competitive advantages for companies in increasingly dynamic and complex markets. However, due to the lack of transparency in the interdependencies, it isn't easy to assess the impact of these innovations on economic, environmental, and production-logistical goals before implementation. Most evaluation models used in research and practice have a blind spot in at least one of the three dimensions. That said, the goal of any engineering discipline should always be practical application. This raises the question of which processes in order processing can holistically functionalize the newly developed innovation's process chain to support the transfer. This article presents an approach for developing a methodology for holistic innovation management and order processing to counteract the blind spot in the evaluation and fully functionalize innovations' order processing. To this end, the valuation model is first used to derive the economic, environmental, and production logistical factors of influence that increase the value of an investment in the innovation. Based on the measures identified, an integrated process for order processing will be developed, increasing profitability. The methodology will be developed based on the principles of Tailored Forming technology to establish a foundation for future research endeavors. In addition, it will serve as a framework for guidance and facilitate the transfer of this technology into practice

Целью ВКР является оптимизация финансовых аспектов реформирования дошкольного образования (на примере МАДОУ ДСКВ №7 "Дарование").The relevance of the work is that in the unstable economic situation in the Russian Federation, the already not too high level of funding for the education system at all levels tends to decrease, so that educational institutions are forced to look for additional (to the budget) sources of funding, including through commercial activities. The object of research is the financing of the educational sphere of the Russian Federation The subject of research is the process of reformation and the current state of financing of the education system on the example of MADOU DSKV №7 "Darovanie". The purpose of WRC is to optimize the financial aspects of reforming preschool education (on the example of MADOU DSKV №7 "Darovanie")

Diffusion of IS in companies using renewable resources and its impact on uncertainty

The importance of sustainability is meanwhile well known in research as well as in practice. One way to produce moresustainable goods is the use of renewable resources. In this paper we present a two-staged study, consisting of a quantitativesurvey followed by qualitative interviews with companies which use renewable resources as an input for production. Thefocus of our study is on the diffusion of IS and supporting technologies and concepts in these special industrial sector. Due tothe natural growth and environmental influence factors it can be supposed that renewable resources are underlying a greateruncertainty regarding quantity, quality and time of availability. Therefore we also examine the influence of IS on uncertaintyin the companies surveyed
