Nanopatterning of the (001) surface of crystalline Ge by ion irradiation at off-normal incidence : Experiment and simulation

    Get PDF
Intricate topographical patterns can form on the surface of crystalline Ge(001) subject to low-energy ion irradiation in the reverse epitaxy regime, i.e., at elevated temperatures which enable dynamic recrystallization. We compare such nanoscale patterns produced by irradiation from varied polar and azimuthal ion incidence angles with corresponding calculated surface topographies. To this end, we propose a continuum equation including both anisotropic erosive and anisotropic diffusive effects. Molecular dynamics simulations provide the coefficients of angle-dependent sputter erosion for the calculations. By merely changing these coefficients accordingly, the experimentally observed surface morphologies can be reproduced, except for extreme ion incidence angles. Angle-dependent sputter erosion is thereby identified as a dominant mechanism in ion-induced pattern formation on crystalline surfaces under irradiation from off-normal incidence angles.Peer reviewe

A Worksite Occupational Health Clinic-Based Diabetes Mellitus Management Program

This study is an analysis of a workplace diabetes management program offered to employees of a Fortune 100 financial services corporation located in the United States. The 12-month worksite-based educational program was for employees who were at risk for diabetes, had prediabetes, or were diagnosed with diabetes. This employed population, with health benefits, generally had acceptable control of their diabetes at the start of the program. They statistically improved most self-efficacy measures, but improvement in biometric tests at 6 and 12 months were not significantly different from baseline. Mean hemoglobin A1c at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months was 7.2%, 7.2%, and 7.3%, respectively. At 12 months, about 40% of preprogram survey participants completed all screenings and the post-program questionnaire. Disease management programs at the workplace can be an important component in helping employees enhance their knowledge of diabetes and maintain and improve their health. O desenvolvimento da olivicultura no Rio Grande do Sul: elementos de formação do sistema agroindustrial

    Get PDF

Correlation Study: Student Success in Biochemistry as a Prerequisite for Integrated Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry

    Get PDF
Background A rise in new schools of pharmacy has led to implementation of new curriculums. Pharmacy schools must adhere to standards set by the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education in order to provide knowledge of foundational sciences and prepare pharmacy students for the future. Prerequisites are typically foundational science courses taken early in the program so that students have the knowledge necessary to be excellent pharmacists. Within the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy, Biochemistry is a prerequisite course for Integrated Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology (PCoMedChem). Objectives The goal of this study is to determine if Biochemistry should remain a prerequisite course for Integrated Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology at Cedarville University under a TBL setting based on if student success in Biochemistry influences student success in PcoMedChem. Methodology The study will evaluate student individual and overall course grades for both Biochemistry and PcoMedChem. The data will include grades from the 2018-2021 cohorts of pharmacy students. Inclusion criteria consists of completion of Biochemistry and Integrated Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology. No exclusion of students exist because all student data will be evaluated. Students will complete a survey through Qualtrics regarding extracurricular commitments as well as perceptions towards the courses to supplement the findings and explain discrepancies. Analysis The demographics and students’ perceptions will be compared in SPSS by analyzing frequency of responses. Using SPSS, the Wilcoxon test and Levene’s test will be conducted followed by a Pearson or Spearman correlation, depending on distribution, in order to determine correlation between grades in Biochemistry and PcoMedChem. Additionally, an ANCOVA test will be used to analyze the data gathered from our survey. A p-value of 0.05 will be indicative of statistical significance

Fact Sheet: Conducting effective skill building workshops

Workshops that build both research and clinical skills are popular learning events in primary health care. They are cost effective compared with individual training activities and provide a means of connecting the material to be learned to the leaders' context, as well as providing opportunities for group interaction
