High p_T suppression of Lambda and K0s in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN)= 2.76 TeV with ALICE

The nuclear modification factors R_AA and R_CP of Lambda and K0s in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN)= 2.76 TeV measured by ALICE at LHC are presented. In central collisions a strong suppression at high p_T (p_T > 8 GeV/c) with respect to pp collisions is observed. The p_T region below is dominated by an enhancement of Lambda over the suppressed K0s. The results are compared to those for charged hadrons and to Lambda from lower collision energies.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, proceedings to Quark Matter 201

A framework for unlocking large-scale urban regeneration projects

    Get PDF
This thesis investigates three large-scale urban projects in Australia: Kogarah in NSW, Dandenong in Victoria and Canning in Western Australia. Each is a regeneration site based upon transit-oriented development (TOD) principles. The findings of this research culminated in the creation of a framework that can be used for other regeneration projects, such as the Canning City Centre, a TOD in the planning phase

Road network vulnerability-evaluation of measures in ranking damages and developments

    Get PDF
In this article a practical example on studying vulnerability using the method of the critical scenario and multi-criteria analysis is presented. Giving a simple method to handle reliability related to a certain path, section, link, junction or a whole trip for travelers and operators of urban road networks as users of traffic information systems it would be a huge step forward. The best would be to have one single parameter coming from an engineering calculation or a model, which would mean the same for the user and the engineer, and both of them would be able to use it as it was. Introducing a clear definition of reliability and vulnerability of road networks used by a wide range of applications is of capital importance. This article makes some steps towards achieving this goal

ADDITIONS TO AND IMPORTANT REMARKS ON THE NEW HUNGARIAN ROAD DESIGN STANDARD

This article gives a short summary of some latest results and the present standing of the standard-renewal procedure. Our department - as a leader in the scientific side of the field - is generally concerned with the design parameters part, so the chapters of this article deal with the design parameters themselves: radius of horizontal and vertical curves, stopping and overtaking sight distances, transition curves

The article, based on literature sources, identifies approaches to the formation of a set of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of economic entities in terms of business digitalization: traditional and cost-oriented.Within the framework of the traditional approach application, on the basis of financial results the expediency of application of the well-known indicators is proved.Characteristics of «DuPont» factor model application in the conditions of digitalization of entities' activity are stressed, emphasis is placed on the need to structure sales revenue by separate operating segments, make changes in costs, asset structure, structure of funding sources through the use of various crowdfunding models.Within the cost-oriented approach, the need to maintain the priority of maximizing value for business is justified, based on which the features of the indicators system to assess its effectiveness in connection with the introduction and dissemination of digital technologies are considered. Critical Gap in Roundabouts – A Short Comparison of Estimation Methods

    Get PDF
Gap-acceptance method is one of the classical methods used to analyze the capacity of roundabouts. Critical gap has a privileged role in this approach. Different driver behavior and local rules of traffic have key role in implementing gap-acceptance method into the local standard for capacity calculation in each country. Therefore, a reliable method for estimation of critical gap at a certain location can be of great importance. This paper presents an experimental investigation and analysis on whether it is possible to find differences between estimating critical gap using video-based gap acceptance data of roundabouts in Hungary. Three single lane roundabouts of different size were recorded for hours in different locations in Budapest and Érd to assess gap acceptance data. Three different methods or models were used to estimate critical gap and no significant differences were found between their results

A tanulmány a Kárpát-medence térségeinek a társadalmi jólléttel összefüggő problémáit és területi egyenlőtlenségeit elemzi, részben társadalomstatisztikai módszerekkel, részben a kapcsolódó szakirodalom segítségével: országos és regionális léptékben, mégpedig hét magyar, négy szlovák, három román, egy szerb, egy ukrán, valamint a nyugati modellekkel való összehasonlítás szempontjának a biztosítása miatt egy osztrák NUTS 2 szintű régió eseteiben. A megalapozó kutatás a társadalmi jóllét stiglitzi dimenzióiból kiindulva néhány lényeges társadalmi jellegű mutatót vizsgál: a jövedelmet, az anyagi deprivációs szinteket, a szegénységi kockázatokat, az iskolázottságot, a munkanélküliséget, az egészséget, emellett a GDP és néhány társadalmi mutató kapcsolatát, valamint a térbeli társadalmi egyenlőtlenségeket. Az eredményeket rangsorolja, tipizálja, egyszersmind keresi a különböző régiók közötti hasonlóságokat és a különbségeket is

Variability in Echolocation Call Intensity in a Community of Horseshoe Bats: A Role for Resource Partitioning or Communication?

Only recently data on bat echolocation call intensities is starting to accumulate. Yet, intensity is an ecologically crucial parameter, as it determines the extent of the bats' perceptual space and, specifically, prey detection distance. Interspecifically, we thus asked whether sympatric, congeneric bat species differ in call intensities and whether differences play a role for niche differentiation. Specifically, we investigated whether R. mehelyi that calls at a frequency clearly above what is predicted by allometry, compensates for frequency-dependent loss in detection distance by using elevated call intensity. Maximum echolocation call intensities might depend on body size or condition and thus be used as an honest signal of quality for intraspecific communication. We for the first time investigated whether a size-intensity relation is present in echolocating bats.We measured maximum call intensities and frequencies for all five European horseshoe bat species. Maximum intensity differed among species largely due to R. euryale. Furthermore, we found no compensation for frequency-dependent loss in detection distance in R. mehelyi. Intraspecifically, there is a negative correlation between forearm lengths and intensity in R. euryale and a trend for a negative correlation between body condition index and intensity in R. ferrumequinum. In R. hipposideros, females had 8 dB higher intensities than males. There were no correlations with body size or sex differences and intensity for the other species.Based on call intensity and frequency measurements, we estimated echolocation ranges for our study community. These suggest that intensity differences result in different prey detection distances and thus likely play some role for resource access. It is interesting and at first glance counter-intuitive that, where a correlation was found, smaller bats called louder than large individuals. Such negative relationship between size or condition and vocal amplitude may indicate an as yet unknown physiological or sexual selection pressure
