Design and development criteria for metal bellows

    Get PDF
Experimental research describes fluid flow and the fluid-elastic mechanism causing bellows flow excitation, and aids in design of conventional bellows liner which suppresses flow-induced vibrations. Analytical models facilitate prediction of flow excitation occurrence and estimation of severity of bellows vibrations

A gas flow indicator for portable life support systems

    Get PDF
A three-part program was conducted to develop a gas flow indicator (GFI) to monitor ventilation flow in a portable life support system. The first program phase identified concepts which could potentially meet the GFI requirements. In the second phase, a working breadboard GFI, based on the concept of a pressure sensing diaphragm-aneroid assembly connected to a venturi, was constructed and tested. Extensive testing of the breadboard GFI indicated that the design would meet all NASA requirements including eliminating problems experienced with the ventilation flow sensor used in the Apollo program. In the third program phase, an optimized GFI was designed by utilizing test data obtained on the breadboard unit. A prototype unit was constructed using prototype materials and fabrication techniques, and performance tests indicated that the prototype GFI met or exceeded all requirements

The conception of the plan of keeping collections of mammals, birds and reptiles for exhibit is prehistoric, but the method of exhibiting animals in a park today has changed in degree as much as the mode of transportation from bullock cart to modern car

FACTORS AFFECTING FEEDER CATTLE PRICE DIFFERENTIALS

    Get PDF
Feeder cattle prices are determined by the interaction of many factors. This study uses 1986 and 1987 Kansas feeder cattle auction data to investigate the impact of a wide variety of physical characteristics, many of which have not been used in previous studies on feeder cattle prices. Unlike previous studies, this analysis explicitly incorporates changes in feeder cattle market fundamentals during the data collection period and also allows price differentials to vary by sex and weight. Weight, weight-squared, lot size, lot size-squared, health, muscling, frame size, condition, fill, breed, presence of horns, and time of sale are significant factors affecting feeder cattle prices on any given day. Several physical traits also exhibit different seasonal price impacts.Demand and Price Analysis, Livestock Production/Industries,

    The Resonant Cavity Radiator (RCR)

    Get PDF
The design of the resonant cavity radiator (RCR) is compared to that of the slotted waveguide array in terms of efficiency, weight, and structural integrity. It is shown that the RCR design has three significant potentials over the slotted waveguide array: (1) improvement in efficiency; (2) lighter weight; and (3) simpler structure which allows the RCR to be integrated with the RF tube to alleviate thermal interface problems

U.S. Meat Demand: Household Dynamics and Media Information Impacts

    Get PDF
This article uses national, quarterly data to examine U.S. meat demand using the Rotterdam model. We investigate the effect of multiple information indices linking different health concerns with diet, changes in household dynamics, and meat recall information. Medical journal articles linking iron, zinc, and protein with health and diet increase beef and poultry demand, whereas articles dealing with fat, cholesterol, and diet concerns reduce beef demand. Increasing consumption of food away from home enhances pork and poultry demand while reducing beef demand. Combined, these results provide a more complete and current understanding of the impact of multiple information factors faced by U.S. consumers.Atkins diet, female workforce, food away from home, food safety, health concerns, meat recalls, U.S. meat demand, Demand and Price Analysis, Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety, Livestock Production/Industries,

IMPACTS FROM CAPTIVE SUPPLIES ON FED CATTLE TRANSACTION PRICES

    Get PDF
Increased use of noncash-price procurement methods has concerned cattlemen for the past several years. This research estimated impacts of captive supplies on transaction prices for fed cattle. Negative relationships were found between transaction prices and percentage deliveries from the inventory of forward contracted and marketing agreement cattle. However, impacts from the absolute size of the total captive supply inventory were not significant. Price differences were found among procurement methods with forward contract prices being much lower. On balance, captive supplies had small but often negative effects on fed cattle transaction prices.Demand and Price Analysis,

    Partially Unbiased Entangled Bases

In this contribution we group the operator basis for d^2 dimensional Hilbert space in a way that enables us to relate bases of entangled states with single particle mutually unbiased state bases (MUB), each in dimensionality d. We utilize these sets of operators to show that an arbitrary density matrix for this d^2 dimensional Hilbert space system is analyzed by via d^2+d+1 measurements, d^2-d of which involve those entangled states that we associate with MUB of the d-dimensional single particle constituents. The number d2+d+1d^2+d+1 lies in the middle of the number of measurements needed for bipartite state reconstruction with two-particle MUB (d^2+1) and those needed by single-particle MUB [(d^2+1)^2].Comment: 5 page
