Este artículo trata de las premisas teóricas de los estudios europeos en antropología. Tras una revisión de los estudios europeos en el Volkskunde alemán, se aborda la crítica sociológica del paradigma de la sociedad y su análisis como una entidad aislada. La teoría hegeliana es una fuente de inspiración de esta critica. Hegel describe la relación entre Estado, sociedad y familia a través de la idea de que los Estados están involucrados en una lucha permanente para ser reconocidos y ello determina su vida interior. Esta idea se usa aquí para ver si la Unión Europea está empezando a construir un Estado con una nueva sociedad, si los estados nacionales se están convirtiendo en agencias en esta sociedad, si las agencias tradicionales se están reorganizando ellas mismas y si es posible hablar sobre una interpelación de los ciudadanos construyendo nuevos derechos políticos y creando una nueva conciencia (europea)

¿Por qué los migrantes chinos prefieren ser trabajadores autónomos?

Since the economic crisis, in Spain the number of immigrants is reducing year by year, however the statistical data shows that the number of Chinese immigrants is an exception. Besides the number, another phenomenon caused our attention as well, which is among Chinese immigrants, the percentage of being self-employed is apparently much higher than immigrants from other countries. Parting from these facts, in this article we try to find out how Chinese migrants in Spain could survive in economic crisis and what is their secret of success? To this end, on the base of anthropological theoretical frame of life-mode analysis and methodology of secondary data and field work, the main objectives of this research is about the reasons why Chinese immigrants tend to be self- employed and what support them to accept long working-days. The field work of interviews and case studies were carried out among Chinese immigrants in the city of Murcia, both Chinese self-employed and wage-earner. Desde que comenzó la crisis, el número de inmigrantes en España está cayendo año tras año. Sin embargo, los datos muestran que la inmigración china es una excepción. Amén de las cifras, también nos llamó la atención el hecho de que, por lo visto, entre la población inmigrante china el porcentaje de autónomos es mucho mayor comparado con los inmigrantes de otros países. Teniendo en cuenta estos hechos intentamos averiguar en este estudio cómo los inmigrantes chinos han podido sobrevivir durante la crisis económica, y cuál es el secreto de su éxito. Basándonos en el marco teórico antropológico del Análisis de los Modos de Vida, la metodología de datos secundarios y el trabajo de campo, el principal objetivo de este estudio es mostrar los motivos por los que los inmigrantes chinos tienden a ser autónomos y en qué se apoyan para aceptar jornadas laborales prolongadas. El trabajo de campo de las entrevistas y los estudios de caso se llevaron a cabo en la ciudad de Murcia, entre la población inmigrante china, tanto autónomos como asalariados.

Cuestiones prácticas en cuanto a la elaboración de relatos biográficos

El presente artículo pretende dar consejos prácticos para la elaboración de relatos biográficos. Después de una breve presentación de la idea principal describe cómo se puede realizar una entrevista abierta que tiene como fin la elaboración de un relato biográfico. El tercer y cuarto apartados versan sobre el tratamiento de los datos adquiridos: la transcripción, la elaboración de una ficha, la codificación y el análisis de los datos. Abstract This article offers practical advice for developing biographical narratives. A brief discussion of the main characteristics of the biographical narrative is followed by a description of how to conduct an open-ended interview for the purpose of developing a biographical narrative. The third and fourth sections deal with the treatment of the data collected: transcription, creation of a file to record information concerning the interview and the interviewee, coding, and data analysis. Small-Scale Fishing and Sustainability. An Ethnographic Approach to the Case of Self-Employed Fishermen in the South-East of Spain

Small-scale fishermen, in contrast to industrial fishing boats, develop a sustainable relationship with their activity from three perspectives: social, economic, and environmental. From this hypothesis, we analyze the ethnographic material obtained in extensive fieldwork (in-depth interviews and participant observation) developed in the four main ports of the region of Murcia (Spain). From this field work the existence of two other types of fishermen (life-modes) besides small-scale fishermen is derived: small entrepreneurs and wage-earners. In different proportions, all three share the consequences of the various reforms to the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). Despite the similarities, this paper shows different strategies, in each of the cases, that justify their permanence in their activity, taking into account the labor modality, as well as their relationship with the idea of sustainability. Conclusions show that because small-scale self-employed fishermen are involved much more than the two other life-modes in the totality of tasks related to their profession in that they own both the means and relations of production (simple commodity production), they are best placed to achieve social, economic, and environmental sustainability

¿Por qué a mi? Instantáneas del momento del accidente en los amputados traumáticos

Introducción: Describimos un momento crucial del itinerario vital de los amputados traumáticos. Objetivos: Describir y analizar las perspectivas elaboradas en torno al instante del accidente desde el punto de vista de los amputados traumáticos. Metodología: Estudio cualitativo de corte etnográfico. Participantes del estudio: 19 amputados en su mayor parte de origen traumático. Los datos se recogieron mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas, historias de vida y observación participante. Resultados: Aparece el concepto de “ser invulnerable”, la imprevisibilidad de los accidentes y el papel de la casualidad y el azar en la tragedia. El arcaico debate del destino frente a la casualidad está presente. Conclusiones: Muchos moteros, con un estilo de vida ligado al ocio, experimentan el frenazo que supone el suceso, metafóricamente, de 100 a 0 km/h. Contar la historia a través del cementerio: El comerciante Tomás Erades : El método biográfico-histórico en Antropología

The article analyses the different perspectives of study that, from the point of view of Social Anthropology, the cemetery offers when describing a society and its cultural patterns. Our modus operandiis exemplified in the case of the municipal cemetery of Murcia, Nuestro Padre Jesús, and in the biography of one of its inhabitants, the Murcian businessman Tomás Erades. To study him allows us to describe the Murcian society of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, their marital and gender, health and economic patterns.El artículo analiza las diferentes perspectivas de estudio que, desde el punto de vista de la Antropología social, ofrece el cementerio a la hora de describir una sociedad y sus patrones culturales. Nuestro modus operandi se ejemplifica en el caso del cementerio municipal de Murcia, Nuestro Padre Jesús, y en la biografía de uno de sus moradores, el comerciante murciano Tomás Erades. Para ello se elabora, en el primer capítulo, un primer acercamiento a la idea de Europa. El segundo capítulo pone al debate las sucesivas experiencias que han dejado huella en la formación de la identidad europea. A transient presence: black visitors and sojourners in Imperial Germany, 1884-1914

The onset of German colonial rule in Africa brought increasing numbers of Black men and women to Germany. Pre-1914 the vast majority of these Africans can best be described as visitors or sojourners and the Black population as a whole was a transient one. This makes recovering their presence in the archival record exceptionally difficult and it is not surprising that the existing historiography almost exclusively focuses on individual biographies of well documented lives. Through utilising a number of newly digitised archival materials, particularly the Hamburg Passenger Lists, this article draws upon a database with information on 1092 individuals from sub-Saharan Africa who spent time in Germany over the period 1884-1914 in order to add considerable bread and depth to our understanding of the Black presence as a whole. It provides increasing empirical detail about the make-up and character of this fluid population - where visitors came from, why they came to Germany, their age on arrival - as well as more accurate detail on the temporal and, to a lesser extent, spatial distribution of visitors
