Homotopical resolutions associated to deformable adjunctions

Given an adjunction connecting reasonable categories with weak equivalences, we define a new derived bar and cobar construction associated to the adjunction. This yields homotopical models of the completion and cocompletion associated to the monad and comonad of the adjunction. We discuss applications of these resolutions to spectral sequences for derived completions and Goodwillie calculus in general model categories.Comment: 22 pages; v2 is the final journal version, with expository improvements suggested by the refere

Euler flag enumeration of Whitney stratified spaces

The flag vector contains all the face incidence data of a polytope, and in the poset setting, the chain enumerative data. It is a classical result due to Bayer and Klapper that for face lattices of polytopes, and more generally, Eulerian graded posets, the flag vector can be written as a cd-index, a non-commutative polynomial which removes all the linear redundancies among the flag vector entries. This result holds for regular CW complexes. We relax the regularity condition to show the cd-index exists for Whitney stratified manifolds by extending the notion of a graded poset to that of a quasi-graded poset. This is a poset endowed with an order-preserving rank function and a weighted zeta function. This allows us to generalize the classical notion of Eulerianness, and obtain a cd-index in the quasi-graded poset arena. We also extend the semi-suspension operation to that of embedding a complex in the boundary of a higher dimensional ball and study the simplicial shelling components.Comment: 41 pages, 3 figures. Multimodal Dependent Type Theory

We introduce MTT, a dependent type theory which supports multiple modalities. MTT is parametrized by a mode theory which specifies a collection of modes, modalities, and transformations between them. We show that different choices of mode theory allow us to use the same type theory to compute and reason in many modal situations, including guarded recursion, axiomatic cohesion, and parametric quantification. We reproduce examples from prior work in guarded recursion and axiomatic cohesion, thereby demonstrating that MTT constitutes a simple and usable syntax whose instantiations intuitively correspond to previous handcrafted modal type theories. In some cases, instantiating MTT to a particular situation unearths a previously unknown type theory that improves upon prior systems. Finally, we investigate the metatheory of MTT. We prove the consistency of MTT and establish canonicity through an extension of recent type-theoretic gluing techniques. These results hold irrespective of the choice of mode theory, and thus apply to a wide variety of modal situations

Topical application of nitric oxide donors is known for its beneficial effects on skin tissue repair. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of biomaterials association with nitric oxide donors in skin tissue repair in mice. Males swiss mice underwent excisional lesion 8 mm biopsy punch on the back. The animals were separated in 4 groups (n=6 in each group) in according with dressing application of polyvinyl alcohol and hydrogel on punch lesion: a) poly (vynil alcohol) with thiol groups and Pluronic F-127 hydrogels (PVA-SH/F127) group - treated with hydrogel without S- nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) and film without nitric oxide; b) poly(vinyl alcohol) S-nitrosated (PVA-SNO/F127-GSNO) group - treated with hydrogel with GSNO and film with nitric oxide; c) PVA-SNO group - treated only with film containing nitric oxide and d) PVA-SNO/ F127 group - treated with hydrogel without GSNO and film with nitric oxide. The animals were treated for 7 consecutive days with daily application of dressings to the respective biomaterial. After 7 days of treatment, the dressings were removed and the lesions were allowed to heal by second intention. The group treated with PVA-SNO film associated with the hydrogel F127 (d), compared with the other groups described above, showed improvement in tissue repair, enhancing wound contraction, decreased wound gap and cellular density, acceleration of the inflammatory phase, increased myofibroblast differentiation and increased expression of collagen type III (p<0,05, at least). Based on these data, the combination of PVA films releasing nitric oxide with F-127 may represent a new approach treatment of cutaneous lesions

Enhancing Customer Experience with a Design and Marketing Concept for SICK Vision Apps

With today’s trends of higher flexibility in production processes and Industry 4.0, there is a heightened demand for flexible sensor solutions. SICK IVP is catering to this demand by providing highly customizable vision sensor systems. However, in the past, customization was mainly done by experts in the vision market and so, vision sensors were primarily sold in a B2B market. Recent development towards easier to use micro-software solutions, so called apps, enable the end user to develop his own solutions. This allows SICK to market their vision products more directly to the end user, or in other words in a B2C market. These trends necessitate new marketing strategies and User Experience Design. Accordingly, this thesis evaluates the current marketing approach for the SICK vision apps, namely, the SICK AppPool and sick.com by mapping customer experience for a specific given task. In-depth empirical research on customer experience was conducted. Finally, recommendations on a marketing approach for the SICK vision apps, including training, a pricing model and a UX Design concept are given
