The Skyrme Model piNN Form Factor and the Sea Quark Distribution of the Nucleon

    Get PDF
We calculate the sea quark distribution of the nucleon in a meson cloud model. The novel feature of our calculation is the implementation of a special piNN form factor recently obtained by Holzwarth and Machleidt. This form factor is hard for small and soft for large momentum transfers. We show that this feature leads to a substantial improvement.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures; v2: some typos corrected, including eq. (9

A new Australian species of Luffa (Cucurbitaceae) and typification of two Australian Cucumis names, all based on specimens collected by Ferdinand Mueller in 1856

As a result of his botanical explorations in northern Australia, Ferdinand von Mueller named several Cucurbitaceae that molecular data now show to be distinct, requiring their resurrection from unjustified synonymy. We here describe and illustrate Luffa saccata F. Muell. ex I.Telford, validating a manuscript name listed under L. graveolens Roxb. since 1859, and we lectotypify Cucumis picrocarpus F. Muell. and C. jucundus F. Muell. The lectotype of the name C. jucundus, a synonym of C. melo, is mounted on the same sheet as the lectotype of C. picrocarpus, which is the sister species of the cultivated C. melo as shown in a recent publication

Simple circuit performs binary addition and subtraction

Ripple adder reduces the number of logic circuits required to preform binary addition and subtraction. The adder uses dual input and delayed output flip-flops in one register. The contents of this register are summed with those of a standard register through conventional AND/gates

On the Numerical Solution of the Time-Dependent Schroedinger Equation

    Get PDF
An algorithm for the numerical solution of the Schr\"odinger equation in the case of a time dependent potential is proposed. Our simple modification upgrades the well known method of Koonin while negligibly increasing the computing time. In the presented test the accuracy is enhanced by up to an order of magnitude.Comment: 4 pages, Revtex, Published in J. Comp. Physics 119, (1995) p. 206-20

Supersymmetric Inflation With Constraints on Superheavy Neutrino Masses

    Get PDF
We consider a supersymmetric model of inflation in which the primordial density fluctuations are nearly scale invariant (the spectral index n is approximately 0.98) with amplitude proportional to (M/M_{Planck})^2, where M ~ 10^{16} GeV denotes the scale of the gauge symmetry breaking associated with inflation. The 60 or so e-foldings take place when all relevant scales are close to M, which helps suppress supergravity corrections. The gravitino and baryogenesis (via leptogenesis) constraints help determine the two heaviest right handed neutrino masses to be approximately 2 x 10^{13} GeV and 6 x 10^9 GeV.Comment: The title has been changed to better reflect the content, the formulas now more accurate, and the reasons for the lack of SUGRA corrections are further clarified. 8 pages REVTE

Polarized antiquark flavor asymmetry: Pauli blocking vs. the pion cloud

The flavor asymmetry of the unpolarized antiquark distributions in the proton, dbar(x) - ubar(x) > 0, can qualitatively be explained either by Pauli blocking by the valence quarks, or as an effect of the pion cloud of the nucleon. In contrast, predictions for the polarized asymmetry Delta_ubar(x) - Delta_dbar(x) based on rho meson contributions disagree even in sign with the Pauli blocking picture. We show that in the meson cloud picture a large positive Delta_ubar(x) - Delta_dbar(x) is obtained from pi-N - sigma-N interference-type contributions, as suggested by chiral symmetry. This effect restores the equivalence of the 'quark' and 'meson' descriptions also in the polarized case.Comment: 4 pages, revtex, 3 eps figure
