A New Record of Seagrass Halophila beccarii Ascherson in Bangladesh

During a study of the species diversity and distribution of seagrasses from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Halophila beccarii was recorded for the first time. This report updates the list of seagrasses for these islands from nine to ten species. Halophila beccarii was observed in an intertidal area of muddy substratum in Haddo Bay. The occurrence of this species is significant because of its new distributional record and because it is reported as a “vulnerable species” in the IUCN Red List. A note on morphometric, shoot density and biomass of <em>Thalassia hemprichii</em> from the South Andaman coast, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India

1222-1227Morphometric characteristics, shoot density and biomass of Thalassia hemprichii were investigated. Leaf length, width, internode length, rhizome diameter and root length (60.12, 4.43, 5.20, 2.41, 68.04 mm) were measured from a total 100 fresh shoots. Shoot density (591.5 shoots m-2) and LAI (0.48 m2 m-2) were found to be variable. Above ground biomass (28.74 g dw m-2) was more attributed to leaf thickness than shoot density. Sand dominant stations show a high number of attributes with highest average values. Internode length increased where sand percentage was high. Leaf length shows significant difference within stations but not between stations. A strong correlation and least variation was found between node and rhizome diameter

A first record of <em>Gomeza bicornis </em>Gray 1831 (Decapod: Corystidae) in India, from seagrass habitat of Andaman Islands

1866-1869Gomeza bicornis is recorded for the first time from Andaman Islands at three different locations by core sample, during seagrass survey. It belongs to the family Corystidae which has 3 genera and 9 species, dwell in sandy substratum and burrows in seagrass habitat
