Induced topological pressure for countable state Markov shifts
We introduce the notion of induced topological pressure for countable state
Markov shifts with respect to a non-negative scaling function and an arbitrary
subset of finite words. Firstly, the scaling function allows a direct access to
important thermodynamical quantities, which are usually given only implicitly
by certain identities involving the classically defined pressure. In this
context we generalise Savchenko's definition of entropy for special flows to a
corresponding notion of topological pressure and show that this new notion
coincides with the induced pressure for a large class of H\"older continuous
height functions not necessarily bounded away from zero. Secondly, the
dependence on the subset of words gives rise to interesting new results
connecting the Gurevi{\vc} and the classical pressure with exhausting
principles for a large class of Markov shifts. In this context we consider
dynamical group extentions to demonstrate that our new approach provides a
useful tool to characterise amenability of the underlying group structure.Comment: 28 page
Quantum transport thermometry for electrons in graphene
We propose a method of measuring the electron temperature in mesoscopic
conductors and demonstrate experimentally its applicability to micron-size
graphene devices in the linear-response regime (, the bath
temperature). The method can be {especially useful} in case of overheating,
. It is based on analysis of the correlation function of mesoscopic
conductance fluctuations. Although the fluctuation amplitude strongly depends
on the details of electron scattering in graphene, we show that extracted
from the correlation function is insensitive to these details.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures; final version, as publishe
Re-entrant resonant tunneling
We study the effect of electron-electron interactions on the
resonant-tunneling spectroscopy of the localized states in a barrier. Using a
simple model of three localized states, we show that, due to the Coulomb
interactions, a single state can give rise to two resonant peaks in the
conductance as a function of gate voltage, G(Vg). We also demonstrate that an
additional higher-order resonance with Vg-position in between these two peaks
becomes possibile when interactions are taken into account. The corresponding
resonant-tunneling process involves two-electron transitions. We have observed
both these effects in GaAs transistor microstructures by studying the time
evolution of three adjacent G(Vg) peaks caused by fluctuating occupation of an
isolated impurity (modulator). The heights of the two stronger peaks exibit
in-phase fluctuations. The phase of fluctuations of the smaller middle peak is
opposite. The two stronger peaks have their origin in the same localized state,
and the third one corresponds to a co-tunneling process.Comment: 9 pages, REVTeX, 4 figure
Hippocampal neurogenesis in the new model of global cerebral ischemia
The study aimed to evaluate the changes of hippocampal neurogenesis in a new model of global transient cerebral ischemia which was performed by the occlusion of the three main vessels (tr. brachiocephalicus, a. subclavia sinistra, and a. carotis communis sinistra) branching from the aortic arch and supplying the brain. Global transitory cerebral ischemia was modeled on male rats (weight = 250–300 g) under chloral hydrate with artificial lung ventilation. Animals after the same surgical operation without vessel occlusion served as sham-operated controls. The number of DCX-positive (doublecortin, the marker of immature neurons) cells in dentate gyrus (DG) and CA1-CA3 fields of hippocampus was counted at the 31st day after ischemia modeling. It was revealed that global cerebral ischemia decreased neurogenesis in dentate gyrus in comparison with the sham-operated group (P<0.05) while neurogenesis in CA1-CA3 fields was increased as compared to the control (P<0.05)
Optically-stimulated desorption of 'hot' excimers from pre-irradiated Ar solids
Electronically-induced desorption from solid Ar pre-irradiated by a
low-energy electron beam was investigated by activation spectroscopy methods -
photon-stimulated exoelectron emission and photon-stimulated luminescence in
combination with spectrally-resolved measurements in the VUV range of the
spectrum. Desorption of vibrationally excited argon molecules Ar2^*(v) from the
surface of pre-irradiated solid Ar was observed for the first time. It was
shown that desorption of 'hot' Ar2^*(v) molecules is caused by recombination of
self-trapped holes with electrons released from traps by visible range photons.
The possibility of optical stimulation of the phenomenon is evidenced.Comment: The complete version of the paper will be published in Fiz. Nizk.

The aim of the study – investigation of the daily profile of blood pressure (BP) and identification of its relationship with the components of metabolic syndrome in patients in the postmenopausal period.
Materials and Methods. 60 postmenopausal women were examined. All of these cohorts were divided into two groups – with or without MS. The study also included 30 patients of fertile age without signs of menopause. The anthropometric data were determined, the daily monitoring of blood pressure (DMBP) with the help of cardio monitor "Kardiotehnika-4000 AD", biochemical analysis of blood with analysis of lipidograms and glucose level.
Results and Discussion. The analysis of the obtained data showed that in patients in the postmenopausal period, there is a correlation between indicators of DMBP with android type of redistribution of adipose tissue, hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia, which causes a negative impact on the indicators of blood pressure and the progression of coronary heart disease.
Сonclusion. Patients in postmenopausal period with MS with DMBP have higher daytime, nighttime, and daily average rates of both SBP and DBP compared with patients without MS; they found higher pressure load rates for SBP and DBP. In fertile age, women have a more favorable course of hypertension.
Spontaneous current generation in gated nanostructures
We have observed an unusual dc current spontaneously generated in the
conducting channel of a short-gated GaAs transistor. The magnitude and
direction of this current critically depend upon the voltage applied to the
gate. We propose that it is initiated by the injection of hot electrons from
the gate that relax via phonon emission. The phonons then excite secondary
electrons from asymmetrically distributed impurities in the channel, which
leads to the observed current

Quantum geometrodynamics creates new problems
The development of last years in quantum geometrodynamics highlights new
problems which were not obvious in its first formulation proposed by Wheeler
and DeWitt. At the first stage the main task was to apply known quantization
schemes to gravitational field or a certain cosmological model. This way has
led to the realization of the fact that a quantum description of the Universe
is impossible without implicit or explicit indication to a reference frame
presented by some medium, filling the whole Universe, with its own equation of
state and thermodynamical properties. Thus the questions arise, should one seek
for a "privileged" reference frame or consider all the variety of gauge
conditions and appropriate solutions for the wave function? It is worth noting
that thermodynamical properties of such a quantum Universe would also depend on
a chosen reference frame to some extent. So, we need a self-consistent quantum
theoretical and thermodynamical description of the Universe.Comment: 5 pages, talk presented at the XIII Russian Gravitational Conference,

Brane-world Cosmologies with non-local bulk effects
It is very common to ignore the non-local bulk effects in the study of
brane-world cosmologies using the brane-world approach. However, we shall
illustrate through the use of three different scenarios, that the non-local
bulk-effect does indeed have significant impact on both the
initial and future behaviour of brane-world cosmologies.Comment: 17 pages, no figures, iopart.cls, submitted to CQ
