    THE EFFECT OF 8 WEEK TENNIS TECHNICAL TRAINING AND GAMES ON REACTION TIME IN 10-12 YEAR OLD BOYS

    The aim of this study is to assess the effect of tennis technique training and games on reaction times of 10-12 years old boys. For this study, 40 subjects who did not perform any physical activity volunteered. Subjects randomly assigned two groups: Experimental group: 20, control group: 20. The experimental group was subjected to 8 week three days a week and 60 minute per session tennis and education with games training program modified according to relevant age group. The control group did not participate any physical activity. Visual, auditory and mix reaction times were measured by Newtest 1000 reaction timer. Subjects’ reaction times were measured twice before and after training program. SPSS 22.0 package program was used for analysis of the data obtained from the study. Independent Sample T test was used for comparison between groups, and paired samples t test was analyzed at p <0.05 significance level. As a result of the study, there was no difference in the control group, and after eight weeks of tenement-specific games and technical training, the research group revealed significant changes between auditory, visual and mixed reaction times in both hands.  Article visualizations

    Threshold voltage control in organic thin film transistors with dielectric layer modified by a genetically engineered polypeptide

Copyright 2010 American Institute of PhysicsPrecise control over the threshold voltage of pentacene-based organic thin film transistors was achieved by inserting a genetically engineered quartz-binding polypeptide at the semiconductor-dielectric interface. A 30 V range was accessed with the same peptide by adjusting the pH of the solution for peptide assembly while leaving other device properties unaffected. Mobility of 0.1–0.2 cm2 V−1 s−1 and on/off current ratio of >106 could be achieved for all devices regardless of the presence of the neutral peptide or the peptide assembled in acidic or basic conditions. This shift in threshold voltages is explained by the generation of charged species and dipoles due to variation in assembling conditions. Controlling device characteristics such as threshold voltage is essential for integration of transistors into electronic circuits

    Novel results on Hermite-Hadamard kind inequalities for η\eta-convex functions by means of (k,r)(k,r)-fractional integral operators

    We establish new integral inequalities of Hermite-Hadamard type for the recent class of η\eta-convex functions. This is done via generalized (k,r)(k,r)-Riemann-Liouville fractional integral operators. Our results generalize some known theorems in the literature.     Reproductive Capacity Evolves in Response to Ecology through Common Changes in Cell Number in Hawaiian Drosophila

In insects, female reproductive capacity is largely determined by the number of ovarioles, the egg-producing subunits of the ovary [e.g., 1]. Recent work has provided insights into ovariole number regulation in Drosophila melanogaster. However, whether mechanisms discovered under laboratory conditions explain evolutionary variation in natural populations is an outstanding question. We investigated potential effects of ecology on the developmental processes underlying ovariole number evolution among Hawaiian Drosophila, a large adaptive radiation wherein the highest and lowest ovariole numbers of the family have evolved within 25 million years. Previous studies proposed that ovariole number correlated with oviposition substrate [2–4] but sampled largely one clade of these flies and were limited by a provisional phylogeny and the available comparative methods. We test this hypothesis by applying phylogenetic modeling to an expanded sampling of ovariole numbers and substrate types and show support for these predictions across all major groups of Hawaiian Drosophila, wherein ovariole number variation is best explained by adaptation to specific substrates. Furthermore, we show that oviposition substrate evolution is linked to changes in the allometric relationship between body size and ovariole number. Finally, we provide evidence that the major changes in ovarian cell number that regulate D. melanogaster ovariole number also regulate ovariole number in Hawaiian drosophilids. Thus, we provide evidence that this remarkable adaptive radiation is linked to evolutionary changes in a key reproductive trait regulated at least partly by variation in the same developmental parameters that operate in the model species D. melanogaster. Organisms leaving more offspring likely have higher fitness. Sarikaya et al. use the adaptive radiation of Hawaiian Drosophila to investigate the evolution of fecundity. They find that habitat shifts played a strong role and identify a developmental process that underlies evolutionary change in ovarian development and impacts egg-laying capacity

    Selection of silk-binding peptides by phage display

    Peptides that bind to silkworm-derived silk fibroin fiber were selected from a phage-displayed random peptide library. The selected silk-binding peptides contained a consensus sequence QSWS which is important for silk-binding as confirmed by binding assays using phage and synthetic peptides. With further optimization, we anticipate that the silk-binding peptides will be useful for functionalization of silk for biomaterial applications

    Processing of YBCO single crystals was carried out by solidification of semi-liquid YBCO composition using a seeding technique. Microstructural characterization of the pinning centers was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Characterization of single crystals was carried out, relating grain size and shape to the corresponding flux profiles. Current densities were calculated based on measured trapped fields. Once circulating currents were established, flux pumping and quenching experiments were conducted. These large single crystals will be incorporated into electromagnetic forming devices for use in the military and commercial aircraft manufacturing and service industries
