Extraction of Neutrino Flux with the Low Method at MiniBooNE Energies
We describe the application of the `low-' method to the extraction of
the neutrino flux at MiniBooNE energies. As an example, we extract the relative
energy dependence of the flux from published MiniBooNE quasielastic scattering
cross sections with GeV and GeV (here is the
energy transfer to the target). We find that the flux extracted from the
`low-' cross sections is consistent with the nominal flux used by
MiniBooNE. We fit the MiniBooNE cross sections over the entire kinematic range
to various parametrizations of the axial form factor. We find that if the
overall normalization of the fit is allowed to float within the normalization
errors, the extracted values of the axial vector mass are independent of the
flux. Within the Fermi gas model, the distribution of the MiniBooNE data
is described by a standard dipole form factor with GeV. If
nuclear transverse enhancement in the vector form factors is accounted for, the
data are best fit with a modified dipole form factor with

Supplementing diets for broilers that are low in crude protein and amino acids with protease
The study evaluated supplementation of broiler diets with a protease enzyme. Six hundred Ross 308 female broiler chicks were acquired at one day of age and randomly distributed to three treatments with five replicates of 40 chicks each. The experimental treatements consisted of i) a positive control diet with normal levels of crude protein, digestible lysine and digestible sulphur containing amino acids (PC); ii) a negative diet with reduced levels of crude protein, digestible lysine and digestible sulphur containg amino acids (NC); and iii) the NC diet augmented with Ronozyme ProAct protease at 200 mg/kg (NC+ENZY). Compared to the other diets, feeding the PC produced the highest final bodyweight (BW), bodyweight gain (BWG), and feed intake (FI) and best feed conversion ratio (FCR) over 0 - 42 days. The PC diet also produced the highest hot and cold carcass yields, ileal protein digestibility and improved the serum biochemistry parameters. Relative to the NC, the NC+ENZY diet increased BW, BWG and FI, improved FCR, increased ileal protein digestibility, hot and cold carcass yields, and the crude protein content of meat. However, it decreased serum triglyceride and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol levels and the crude fat content of meat of broilers. As a result, protease supplementation at the level of 200 mg/kg may not remove the detrimental effects that are caused by a 6% reduction in crude protein and digestible amino acids on performance, hot and cold carcass yields and ileal digestibility of crude protein of broilers.

Defatted yellow mealworm larvae (Tenebrio molitor l.) meal as possible alternative to fish meal in quail diets
The effects of replacing fish meal (FM) in the diet with defatted mealworm larvae meal (DMLM) on growth, carcass, and biochemical constituents of serum of Japanese quail chicks were investigated. A total of 600 unsexed one-day-old chicks were allotted to five dietary treatments with six replicates of 20 chicks each. The diets were formulated by replacing FM with DMLM at the levels of 25% (D25), 50% (D50), 75% (D75), and 100% (D100). The FM, D25 and D50 diets resulted in greater final bodyweight, higher bodyweight gain, and improved feed conversion ratio compared with the other diets. Diets that contained DMLM decreased the feed intake compared with the FM diet. The FM and D25 diets increased the hot and cold carcass yields compared with the other diets, whereas the D75 and D100 diets significantly enhanced the relative weight of the small intestine and abdominal fat compared with FM, D25, and D50. The replacement of FM with DMLM reduced the serum globulin, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and the albumin to globulin ratio significantly. The best protein and energy efficiency ratios and European efficiency factor were obtained with the D25 and D50 diets. In conclusion, the replacement of FM with DMLM at the levels of 25% and 50% produced positive results in growth performance, in serum albumin to globulin ratio, and in nutrient use efficiency in quail.Keywords: performance, serum biochemistry, slaughterin

Effects of dietary supplementation of L-carnitine on performance, carcass and meat characteristics of quails
The present study was conducted to determine the effects of feeding diets containing two levels of metabolizable energy (12.13 or 11.72 MJ ME/kg) and two different fat sources (sunflower- and fish-oil) with or without supplemental L-carnitine (0 or 50 mg/kg diet) on growth performance and carcass and meat characteristics of Japanese quails. Two hundred and forty day-old male quail chicks were randomly assigned to eight treatment groups, each subdivided into three replicates of 10 chicks. The chicks were raised from hatch until 5 wks of age. Feeding the diet containing 12.13 MJ ME/kg increases body weight and body weight gain significantly, and improved the feed conversion ratio above that of the lower energy diet. Feed intakes of the birds were unaffected by treatments. The cold carcass yield of quails fed the diet containing sunflower oil was significantly higher than those receiving the diets containing fish oil. After 35 days of feeding the diet containing the standard energy level (12.13 MJ ME/kg) the thigh yield of the birds was significantly higher than that of the chicks on the lower energy diet. Dietary treatments did not affect pH values of edible meat in the quails. Feeding diets containing sunflower oil and L-carnitine significantly decreased malonaldehyde (MA) amounts in the edible meat. The crude protein content of the edible meat fraction was significantly higher when the dietary energy level was decreased from 12.13 to 11.72 MJ ME/kg diet. Decreasing dietary energy levels significantly decreased the âLâ (lightness) and âbâ values (less yellow) of the meat, while dietary L-carnitine supplementation resulted in a significant increase in âLâ value. The total edible meat of the quails on the diets containing fish oil had a higher âaâ value (more red) than the quails receiving sunflower oil in their diets. It was concluded that additional studies are required to clarify the role of dietary L-carnitine in the oxidation of long-chain fatty acids, its antioxidant properties and its importance in energy metabolism in Japanese quails. Semantic networks for engineering design: State of the art and future directions

The final version is available from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers via the DOI in this recordIn the past two decades, there has been increasing use of semantic networks in engineering design for supporting various activities, such as knowledge extraction, prior art search, idea generation and evaluation. Leveraging large-scale pre-trained graph knowledge databases to support engineering design-related natural language processing (NLP) tasks has attracted a growing interest in the engineering design research community. Therefore, this paper aims to provide a survey of the state-of-the-art semantic networks for engineering design and propositions of future research to build and utilize large-scale semantic networks as knowledge bases to support engineering design research and practice. The survey shows that WordNet, ConceptNet and other semantic networks, which contain common-sense knowledge or are trained on non-engineering data sources, are primarily used by engineering design researchers to develop methods and tools. Meanwhile, there are emerging efforts in constructing engineering and technical-contextualized semantic network databases, such as B-Link and TechNet, through retrieving data from technical data sources and employing unsupervised machine learning approaches. On this basis, we recommend six strategic future research directions to advance the development and uses of large-scale semantic networks for artificial intelligence applications in engineering design
TADPOLE Challenge: Accurate Alzheimer's disease prediction through crowdsourced forecasting of future data
The TADPOLE Challenge compares the performance of algorithms at predicting
the future evolution of individuals at risk of Alzheimer's disease. TADPOLE
Challenge participants train their models and algorithms on historical data
from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) study. Participants
are then required to make forecasts of three key outcomes for ADNI-3 rollover
participants: clinical diagnosis, ADAS-Cog 13, and total volume of the
ventricles -- which are then compared with future measurements. Strong points
of the challenge are that the test data did not exist at the time of
forecasting (it was acquired afterwards), and that it focuses on the
challenging problem of cohort selection for clinical trials by identifying fast
progressors. The submission phase of TADPOLE was open until 15 November 2017;
since then data has been acquired until April 2019 from 219 subjects with 223
clinical visits and 150 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans, which was used
for the evaluation of the participants' predictions. Thirty-three teams
participated with a total of 92 submissions. No single submission was best at
predicting all three outcomes. For diagnosis prediction, the best forecast
(team Frog), which was based on gradient boosting, obtained a multiclass area
under the receiver-operating curve (MAUC) of 0.931, while for ventricle
prediction the best forecast (team EMC1), which was based on disease
progression modelling and spline regression, obtained mean absolute error of
0.41% of total intracranial volume (ICV). For ADAS-Cog 13, no forecast was
considerably better than the benchmark mixed effects model (BenchmarkME),
provided to participants before the submission deadline. Further analysis can
help understand which input features and algorithms are most suitable for
Alzheimer's disease prediction and for aiding patient stratification in

Modelling concentration heterogeneities in streets using the street-network model MUNICH
Populations in urban areas are exposed to high local concentrations of pollutants, such as nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter, because of unfavourable dispersion conditions and the proximity to traffic. To simulate these concentrations over cities, models like the street-network model MUNICH (Model of Urban Network of Intersecting Canyons and Highways) rely on parameterizations to represent the air flow and the concentrations of pollutants in streets. In the current version, MUNICH v2.0, concentrations are assumed to be homogeneous in each street segment. A new version of MUNICH, where the street volume is discretized, is developed to represent the street gradients and to better estimate peoples' exposure. Three vertical levels are defined in each street segment. A horizontal discretization is also introduced under specific conditions by considering two zones with a parameterization taken from the Operational Street Pollution Model (OSPM). Simulations are performed over two districts of Copenhagen, Denmark, and one district of greater Paris, France. Results show an improvement in the comparison to observations, with higher concentrations at the bottom of the street, closer to traffic, of pollutants emitted by traffic (NOx, black carbon, organic matter). These increases reach up to 60â% for NO2 and 30â% for PM10 in comparison to MUNICH v2.0. The aspect ratio (ratio between building height and street width) influences the extent of the increase of the first-level concentrations compared to the average of the street. The increase is higher for wide streets (low aspect ratio and often higher traffic) by up to 53â% for NOx and 18â% for PM10. Finally, a sensitivity analysis with regard to the influence of the street network highlights the importance of using the model MUNICH with a network rather than with a single street.</p
Family history in stone disease: how important is it for the onset of the disease and the incidence of recurrence?
The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible effect of a positive family history on the age at the onset of urinary stone disease and the frequency of subsequent symptomatic episodes relating to the disease. Between March 2006 and April 2009, patients with either a newly diagnosed or a previously documented stone disease were included in the study program. They were required to fill in a questionnaire and divided into two groups according to the positive family history of stone disease; group I comprised patients with a family history for urinary calculi and group II those without. Depending on the data obtained from questionnaires, all patients were evaluated in detail with respect to the age at the onset of the stone disease, stone passage and interventions over time, time to first recurrence (time interval between the onset of the disease and the first recurrence), number of total stone episodes and recurrence intervals. 1,595 patients suffering from urolithiasis with the mean age of 41.7 (14â69 years) were evaluated with respect to their past history of the disease. There were 437 patients in group I and 1,158 in group II. There was no statistically significant difference between the mean age value of two groups (P = 0.09). When both genders in group I were analyzed separately, female patients tended to have higher rate of family history positivity than males. Comparative evaluation of the age at the onset of the disease between the two groups did reveal that stone formation occured at younger ages in patients with positive family history [P = 0.01 (males), P = 0.01 (females)] and the mean age of onset of the disease was lower in males than females in group I (P = 0.01). Patients in group I had relatively more stone episodes from the onset of the disease [P < 0.01 (2â4 episodes), P < 0.01 (âĽ5 episodes)]. Male patients were associated with higher number of stone episodes (P = 0.01). Mean time interval between recurrences was noted to be significantly shorter in group I patients when compared with patients in group II [P < 0.01 (males), P = 0.02 (females)]. In conclusion, our results showed that urinary stone formation may occur at younger ages and that the frequency of symptom episodes may be higher in patients with a positive family history. We believe that the positive family history for urinary stone disease could give us valuable information concerning the onset as well as the severity of the disease
