On the rank of the flat unitary summand of the Hodge bundle
Let be a non-isotrivial fibred surface. We prove that the
genus , the rank of the unitary summand of the Hodge bundle
and the Clifford index satisfy the inequality . Moreover, we prove that if the general fibre is a plane curve of degree
then the stronger bound holds. In particular,
this provides a strengthening of the bounds of \cite{BGN} and of \cite{FNP}.
The strongholds of our arguments are the deformation techniques developed by
the first author in \cite{Rigid} and by the third author and Pirola in
\cite{PT}, which display here naturally their power and depht.Comment: 19 pages, revised versio
Programa Aduana. Montevideo. Uruguay

Topological Data Analysis of High-dimensional Correlation Structures with Applications in Epigenetics
This thesis comprises a comprehensive study of the correlation of highdimensional
datasets from a topological perspective. Derived from a lack of efficient algorithms of big data analysis
and motivated by the importance of finding a structure of correlations in genomics, we have developed two
analytical tools inspired by the topological data analysis approach that describe and predict the behavior of the
correlated design. Those models allowed us to study epigenetic interactions from a local and global perspective,
taking into account the different levels of complexity. We applied graph-theoretic and algebraic topology principles
to quantify structural patterns on local correlation networks and, based on them, we proposed a network model that
was able to predict the locally high correlations of DNA methylation data. This model provided with an efficient tool
to measure the evolution of the correlation with the aging process. Furthermore, we developed a powerful
computational algorithm to analyze the correlation structure globally that was able to detect differentiated
methylation patterns over sample groups. This methodology aimed to serve as a diagnostic tool, as it provides with
selected epigenetic biomarkers associated with a specific phenotype of interest. Overall, this work establishes a
novel perspective of analysis and modulation of hidden correlation structures, specifically those of great dimension
and complexity, contributing to the understanding of the epigenetic processes, and that is designed to be useful for
non-biological fields too
Intelligent Android malware family classification using Genetic Algorithms and SVM
As of April 2019, Android was the most popular mobile operating system amongst smartphone users[1]. Its high popularity, combined with the extended use of smartphones for everyday tasks as well as storing or accessing sensitive and personal data, has made Android applications the target of numerous malware attacks over the last few years and in the present.
The malware attacks have been perfected to target specific vulnerabilities in the operating system or the user; thus specializing in types of malware and families within each type. The malware is usually distributed in infected applications (or APKs), which contain malicious behaviours that can be found looking into their code (known as static analysis) or analysing the behaviour of the application while running (known as dynamic analysis).
This document describes the implementation of an intelligent system that aims to classify a series of malicious APK samples obtained from the free repository ContagioDump. These samples are classified inside the type and family they belong to.
To create the classifier system, a Support Vector Machine (SVM) is implemented using Python’s library Scikit Learn. A series of attributes are extracted from the samples of malicious APK by analysing the code of the APKs via static analysis, using Python’s library Androguard, which contains a parser that allows to interact with all the relevant parts of the APK file.
The attributes obtained are very high in number, and for that reason a Genetic Algorithm is used to optimize the attributes that the SVM uses in the learning process. The algorithm codifies a subset of attributes from all the attributes extracted in the static analysis, and is evaluated using the accuracy score obtained when training the SVM with said subset.
As a result, a subset of attributes and a trained model for the classification are obtained. This model is then tested with a new set of malware samples, belonging to all the families classified in the learning.
The present document contains the explanation of the process of designing, creating and testing the system. It is developed as bachelor’s thesis for computer science and engineering degree in Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.Ingeniería en Tecnologías de Telecomunicación (Plan 2010
Families of curves with Higgs field of arbitrarily large kernel
In this article, we consider the flat bundle (Formula presented.) and the kernel (Formula presented.) of the Higgs field naturally associated to any (polarized) variation of Hodge structures of weight 1. We study how strict the inclusion (Formula presented.) can be in the geometric case. More precisely, for any smooth projective curve (Formula presented.) of genus (Formula presented.) and any (Formula presented.), we construct non-isotrivial deformations of (Formula presented.) over a quasi-projective base such that (Formula presented.) and (Formula presented.)
Initial growth of Chrysolaena flexuosa (Sims) H. Rob., native Asteraceae with ornamental potential value
A study was carried out to know some
characteristics related to the initial growth of
Chysolaena flexuosa, a native Asteraceae of
the Buenos Aires's "sierras". As it has colorful
and beautiful flowers, it has a great ornamental
potential value. Seeds from C. flexuosa where
collected from "Sierra La Barrosa" (Balcarce)
and used in this experiment, where the evolution
of specimens was analyzed in a greenhouse
during a season. C. flexuosa reproductive stage
started at spring and finished at the beginning of
autumn. In all the cases, during the middle stage,
the inflorescences of the plants showed heads
with violet flowers and heads with fruits (achene)
at the same time. At the beginning of autumn all
the plants had only heads with achenes showing
its white pappus, situation that gives the plants
another interesting attribute because their
inflorescences remain attractive even during
the fructification stage so they can be used for
make dried floral arrangements. Because of the
rusticity and beauty of this specie from spring to
autumn, C. flexuosa is presented as a promising
specie for obtain ornamental cultivars to use as
a specimen, in containers, in masses or as cut
material for bouquets.Fil: Echeverría, María Lis.
