The main objective of this study was the validation of the Healthy Lifestyle Questionnaire (EVS II), using a confirmatory factorial analysis of the measurement model, with veteran athletes. A total of 348 veteran Portuguese athletes of both genders, aged between 30 and 60 years (M = 41.64, SD = 9.83), of whom 200 were males and 148 were females, from several sports. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis demonstrate the adequacy of the adapted version of the EVS II, as the factorial structure (6 factors/24 items) has acceptable validity indexes: χ2 = 305.925, p = 0.000, df = 120.017, χ2/df = 2.549, NFI (Normed Fit Index) = 0.909, TLI (Tucker Lewis Index) = 0.918, CFI (Comparative Fit Index) = 0.944, GFI (Goodness of Fit Index) = 0.944, AGFI (Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index) = 0.909, SRMR (Standardized Root Mean Square Residual) = 0.048, RMSEA (Root Mean Square of Approximation) = 0.060, allowing evaluation of the dimensions of balanced diet, respect for mealtime, tobacco and alcohol consumption, other drugs consumption and resting habits. The adaptation to sport of the Portuguese version of EVS II can be used with reasonable confidence in the evaluation of healthy lifestyles in the context of sportinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Conjugality is one of the most studied events by the experts, with studies finding that the quality of the conjugal relationship is an important indicator of wellbeing for couples and that a low conjugal relationship quality is a risk factor for mental health. The present study aimed to evaluate a relationship between communication, forgiveness and dyadic adjustment in the marital relationship and, also compare men and women regarding adjustment, communication and dyadic adjustment in the marital relationship. It was a cross-sectional study, using a correlational methodology and a convenience sample that included 245 participants. The evaluation protocol included the following questionnaires/scales: Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Specific Offenses Forgiveness Scale, Communication Patterns Questionnaire and Dialogue-Revised Adjustment Scale. Variations are verified between variables, some of which are negative (e.g., changes / withdrawal and benevolence) and others positive (e.g., positive interaction and satisfaction). There are no significant differences between men and women in the study variables

Germ Cell Specification and Migration in Drosophila and beyond

AbstractThe passage of an individual's genome to future generations is essential for the maintenance of species and is mediated by highly specialized cells, the germ cells. Genetic studies in a number of model organisms have provided insight into the molecular mechanisms that control specification, migration and survival of early germ cells. Focusing on Drosophila, we will discuss the mechanisms by which germ cells initially form and remain transcriptionally silent while somatic cells are transcriptionally active. We will further discuss three separate attractive and repellent guidance pathways, mediated by a G-protein coupled receptor, two lipid phosphate phosphohydrolases, and isoprenylation. We will compare and contrast these findings with those obtained in other organisms, in particular zebrafish and mice. While aspects of germ cell specification are strikingly different between these species, germ cell specific gene functions have been conserved. In particular, mechanisms that sense directional cues during germ cell migration seem to be shared between invertebrates and vertebrates

VP - Ellipsis Comprehension in European and Brazilian Portuguese

Ellipses are quite common amongst languages. As Bar ss (2003) points out, ellipsis (as a type of anaphora) involves linguisti c expressions which receive their semantic interpretation “via a depend ency upon an antecedent, rather than from its internal lexical c ontent.” (p. ix) This makes ellipsis in and of itself an interesting topi c for language acquisition research since it is a syntax-discourse phenomenon which implies the development of both formal licensing conditions and identification conditions for convergence. Our aim in this paper is to examine the acquisition of one case of ellipsis, namely, VP ellipsis (VPE), in European Po rtuguese (EP) and Brazilian Portuguese (BP).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Fairness and Organizational Performance: Insights for Supply Chain Management

    Get PDF
For this briefing document we review the organizational fairness literature with a focus on the supply chain context. Supply chain fairness is an under-researched topic and we seek to close this gap through a systematic literature review. We draw upon key contributions to the psychology, economics and organizations studies literature to illuminate the salient features of fairness in social and economic systems, such as supply chains. This briefing document highlights that fairness influences economic behaviour and firm performance in important ways. The literature shows that fairness in organizational practices can foster various sources competitive advantage and hence improve organizational performance. While there is a robust literature on fairness in the human resources management (HRM) domain, fairness perceptions by other stakeholder groups are underexplored and warrant further research attention. Moreover, while the business case for supply chain fairness is well established, other salient issues remain under-researched in the academic literature. We explore avenues for future research

A complex systems model for transformative supply chains in emerging markets

Purpose: Corporations operating global value chains must grapple with a multiplicity of ethical and practical considerations, most notably when value chains extend to emerging markets. Such contexts involve interactions with diverse stakeholders who possess the ability to impact supply chain performance, but who also bring conflicting needs, values and interests. The purpose of this paper is to outline a transformative model of supply chain fairness, arguing that adopting plural fairness principles and practices generates a higher fairness equilibrium which includes all affected stakeholders in the production of fairness outcomes, with consequent positive organizational and system level impacts. Design/methodology/approach: Through a philosophically informed overview of the literature on organizational fairness, the paper applies fairness to the management of supplier relations to identify the institutional features of ethically sustainable supply chains. The proposed conceptual model uses a complex adaptive systems approach (CADs), supplemented by describing the contribution of fairness norms and practices. Findings: This paper argues that a transformative approach to supply chain fairness can suggest new structures for interaction between firms, stakeholders, mediating institutions and governments. Originality/value: Emerging market supply chains are facing significant changes. Adopting a complex adaptive systems perspective upon stakeholder relationships, this paper offers insights from the theoretical literature on fairness, and proposes a normative model of supply chain fairness which accounts for both the normative and empirical aspects of relational complexity
