    Formulation d’une pommade antalgique et anti-inflammatoire à base d’un extrait hydroalcoolique des écorces de racines de Securidaca longepedunculata Fresen (Polygalaceae)

    Securidaca longepedunculata is a plant commonly used by African populations. Previous works have identified the main bioactive constituents; study the toxicity, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant activities of the root barks. This work aims at developing an Improved Traditional Medicine (ITM) in ointmentbased on the hydroethanolic extract of the root barks. The plant material was analyzed to determine the physicochemical parameters. The hydroethanolic extract was used to formulate ointments with shea butter. The quality parameters of the ointment were determined and the primary irritability was checked in albino rabbits. The local anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated against croton oil and xylem inflammation in mice. It exhibited stability at a temperature of 30°C and showed no skin irritation. It inhibited 27% of the inflammation to croton oil. Triterpenic saponins and antiradical constituents were the main chemical markers identified. These results and the existing data can be used for the development of “SECUDOL ointment”, an ITM against painful and inflammatory joint manifestations

    Analyse descriptive et facteurs agronomiques d’avant-garde de l’état sanitaire des vergers anacardiers (Anacardium occidentale L.) en Côte d’Ivoire

    Une Ă©tude a Ă©tĂ© rĂ©alisĂ©e dans les RĂ©gions de la BagouĂ©, du Poro et du Tchologo pour Ă©valuer les facteurs d’avant-garde du niveau sanitaire des vergers anacardiers en CĂ´te d’Ivoire. Les donnĂ©es ont Ă©tĂ© recueillies dans 250 plantations sĂ©lectionnĂ©es au hasard sur des fiches de relevĂ©s sanitaires. Le niveau sanitaire de dix pieds par hectare a Ă©tĂ© Ă©valuĂ© sur la diagonale en zigzag dans chaque verger d’anacardier. Les techniques d’analyse utilisĂ©es comprenaient des statistiques descriptives pour les caractĂ©ristiques des arbres et un modèle de rĂ©gression linĂ©aire pour dĂ©terminer les principaux facteurs qui influencent le niveau sanitaire des vergers. Il resort de cette Ă©tude que le nombre de plantes par hectare, l’âge du verger, la source des semences, la nature du sol et l’utilisation de pesticides ont eu une influence significative sur le niveau sanitaire des vergers. Les exploitations de plus de 100 arbres par hectare et le manque d’entretien des vergers ont augmentĂ© l’infestation de plus de 5%. Les vergers qui respectent cette densitĂ© ont rĂ©duit l’incidence des agents pathogènes Ă  moins de 25%. Les efforts d’amĂ©lioration de la production de la noix d’anacarde en CĂ´te d’Ivoire doivent tenir compte de ces facteurs d’avant-garde. L’étude a recommandĂ© une meilleure formation des producteurs sur les techniques de lutte agronomique en cajouculture pour une production saine. A study was carried out in BagouĂ©, Poro and Tchologo Regions to assess the determinants of the cashew orchards sanitary level in Cote d’Ivoire. Data were collected from 250 randomly selected plantations through the use of structured sanitary sheet. The sanitary level of ten trees per hectare was assessed on the zigzag diagonal in each cashew tree orchard. Analytical techniques employed included descriptive statistics to analyze the characteristics of respondent cashew orchards, and linear regression model to examine the determinants of orchards sanitary level among the farms visited. From this study, it appears that the number of plants per hectare, farm age, source of seeds, nature of soil and the use of pesticides were found to significantly influence sanitary level of cashew orchards. In a priori expectation, the farms with more than 100 trees per hectare and the lack of maintenance of orchards were found to be increased the infestation more than 5%. The farms which respect this line reduced the incidence of pathogens less than 25%. Efforts to improve cashew nut production in Cote d'Ivoire must take  these leading factors into account. The study recommended better training of producers on cashew nut agronomic control techniques for healthy production

    Plantes médicinales de l’Afrique de l’Ouest pour la prise en charge des affections respiratoires pouvant se manifester au cours de la Covid-19

    Dans le cadre de contribuer à la prise en charge symptomatique des affections respiratoires pouvant se manifester pendant la Covid-19, la présente étude a été entreprise pour recenser les plantes médicinales Africaines actives contre ces manifestations. Une étude bibliographique a été effectuée pour recenser les espèces végétales utilisées dans la prise en charge des maladies respiratoires en Afrique de l’Ouest. La fréquence de citation et un score de convergence d’usage des espèces ont été également calculés. Un total de 318 recettes issues de 145 espèces végétales a été inventorié à travers différentes publications. Guiera senegalensis, Sterculia setigera, Bridelia ferruginea, Euphorbia hirta et Terminalia avicennioides étaient les plantes les plus citées avec les meilleurs scores de convergence d’usage. Les feuilles de ces espèces étaient les plus citées tandis que la toux était la plus indiquée. Les résultats de cette étude pourraient servir de base de données des espèces végétales utilisées dans la prise en charge des maladies du tractus respiratoire en Afrique de l’ouest.Mots clés : Plantes médicinales, Affections respiratoires, Covid-19, Afrique de l’Ouest. English Title: Medicinal plants from West Africa for the management of respiratory diseases that may appear during the Covid-19 As part of contributing to the symptomatic management of respiratory conditions that may manifest during Covid-19, the current study was undertaken to identify African medicinal plants active against these manifestations. A bibliographic study was carried out to identify the plant species used in the management of respiratory diseases in West Africa. The frequency of citation and a convergence score for the use of the species were also calculated. A total of 318 recipes from 145 plant species were inventoried through various publications. Guiera senegalensis, Sterculia setigera, Bridelia ferruginea, Euphorbia hirta and Terminalia avicennioides were the most cited plants with the best usage convergence scores. Leaves from these species were most cited while the cough was more indicated.     Contrôle Physicochimique des Feuilles de Lippia chevalieri Moldenke Cultivé

    Au Mali, le Malarial 5 qui est un Médicament Traditionnel Amélioré (MTA) produit en partie à base de feuilles de Lippia chevalieri est utilisé pour traiter les symptômes du paludisme simple. Les feuilles de Lippia chevalieri cultivé peuvent être utilisées pour la préparation des MTA lorsqu’elles sont de qualité. La présente étude portée sur le contrôle physicochimique a montré que les feuilles de Lippia chevalieri cultivé ont des teneurs en eau inférieures à 10%, celles des cendres totales un peu élevées et celles des cendres insolubles dans l’acide chlorhydriques à 10% faibles. Les meilleurs rendements des extractions sont obtenus par l’eau par infusion et par décoction. Plusieurs groupes chimiques comprenant entre autres des caroténoïdes, des coumarines, des mucilages, des flavonoïdes ont été révélés. In Mali, Malarial 5, which is an Improved Traditional Medicine (ITM) produced partly from the leaves of Lippia chevalieri, is used to treat the symptoms of uncomplicated malaria. The leaves of cultivated Lippia chevalieri can be used for the preparation of improved traditional medicines because they are of good quality. This paper focuses on the physicochemical control which showsthat the leaves of cultivated Lippia chevalieri contain less than 10% of moisture content. The total ash content was a little higher, and the acid insoluble ash was low. The best yields of extractions are obtained with water through infusion and decoction. Several chemical compounds including carotenoids, coumarins, mucilage, and flavonoids were revealed

    Seasonality and shift in age-specific malaria prevalence and incidence in Binko and Carrière villages close to the lake in Selingué, Mali

    BACKGROUND: Malaria transmission in Mali is seasonal and peaks at the end of the rainy season in October. This study assessed the seasonal variations in the epidemiology of malaria among children under 10 years of age living in two villages in Selingué: Carrière, located along the Sankarani River but distant from the hydroelectric dam, and Binko, near irrigated rice fields, close to the dam. The aim of this study was to provide baseline data, seasonal pattern and age distribution of malaria incidence in two sites situated close to a lake in Selingué. METHODS: Geographically, Selingué area is located in the basin of Sakanrani and belongs to the district of Yanfolila in the third administrative region of Mali, Sikasso. Two cross-sectional surveys were conducted in October 2010 (end of transmission season) and in July 2011 (beginning of transmission season) to determine the point prevalence of asymptomatic parasitaemia, and anaemia among the children. Cumulative incidence of malaria per month was determined in a cohort of 549 children through active and passive case detection from November 2010 through October 2011. The number of clinical episodes per year was determined among the children in the cohort. Logistic regression was used to determine risk factors for malaria. RESULTS: The prevalence of malaria parasitaemia varied significantly between villages with a strong seasonality in Carrière (52.0–18.9 % in October 2010 and July 2011, respectively) compared with Binko (29.8–23.8 % in October 2010 and July 2011, respectively). Children 6–9 years old were at least twice more likely to carry parasites than children up to 5 years old. For malaria incidence, 64.8–71.9 % of all children experienced at least one episode of clinical malaria in Binko and Carrière, respectively. The peak incidence was observed between August and October (end of the rainy season), but the incidence remained high until December. Surprisingly, the risk of clinical malaria was two- to nine-fold higher among children 5–9 years old compared to younger children. CONCLUSIONS: A shift in the peak of clinical episodes from children under 5–9 years of age calls for expanding control interventions, such as seasonal malaria chemoprophylaxis targeting the peak transmission months
