Large Magnetoresistance and Jahn Teller effect in Sr2_2FeCoO6_6

Neutron diffraction measurement on the spin glass double perovskite Sr2_2FeCoO6_6 reveals site disorder as well as Co3+^{3+} intermediate spin state. In addition, multiple valence states of Fe and Co are confirmed through M\"{o}ssbauer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The structural disorder and multiple valence lead to competing ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions and subsequently to a spin glass state, which is reflected in the form of an additional TT-linear contribution at low temperatures in specific heat. A clear evidence of Jahn-Teller distortion at the Co3+^{3+}-O6_6 complex is observed and incorporating the physics of Jahn-Teller effect, the presence of localized magnetic moment is shown. A large, negative and anomalous magnetoresistance of ≈\approx 63% at 14K in 12T applied field is observed for Sr2_2FeCoO6_6. The observed magnetoresistance could be explained by applying a semi-empirical fit consisting of a negative and a positive contribution and show that the negative magnetoresistance is due to spin scattering of carriers by localized magnetic moments in the spin glass phase

    Hyperfine interaction and electronic spin fluctuation study on Sr2−x_{2-x}Lax_xFeCoO6_6 (x = 0, 1, 2) by high-resolution back-scattering neutron spectroscopy

The study of hyperfine interaction by high-resolution inelastic neutron scattering is not very well known compared to the other competing techniques viz. NMR, M\"ossbauer, PACS etc. Also the study is limited mostly to magnetically ordered systems. Here we report such study on Sr2−x_{2-x}Lax_xFeCoO6_6 (x = 0, 1, 2) of which first (Sr2_2FeCoO6_6 with x = 0) has a canonical spin spin glass, the second (SrLaFeCoO6_6 with x = 1) has a so-called magnetic glass and the third (La2_2FeCoO6_6 with x = 2) has a magnetically ordered ground state. Our present study revealed clear inelastic signal for SrLaFeCoO6_6, possibly also inelastic signal for Sr2_2FeCoO6_6 below the spin freezing temperatures TsfT_{sf} but no inelastic signal at all for for the magnetically ordered La2_2FeCoO6_6 in the neutron scattering spectra. The broadened inelastic signals observed suggest hyperfine field distribution in the two disordered magnetic glassy systems and no signal for the third compound suggests no or very small hyperfine field at the Co nucleus due to Co electronic moment. For the two magnetic glassy system apart from the hyperfine signal due only to Co, we also observed electronic spin fluctuations probably from both Fe and Co electronic moments. \end{abstract

Summary form only given. Since the giant magnetocaloric effect is encountered in a ferromagnetic Gd5Si2Ge2 alloy near room temperature it is considered as a suitable material for magnetic refrigerator applications. Also a commensurate structural transition occurs at the magnetic transition temperature and there is a good correlation between the crystal structure and magnetic properties. Such observations have triggered numerous experimental studies on similar rare earth alloys and compounds. We have synthesized its Dy- analogue, namely, Dy5Si2Ge2 and have characterized it by means of room temperature X-ray diffraction, ac magnetic susceptibility (15 K - 300 K), electrical resistivity (at zero field and at 6 T), thermoelectric power (15 K - 300 K) and neutron diffraction (at 300 K and 9.2 K) experiments

A Logical Product Approach to Zonotope Intersection

We define and study a new abstract domain which is a fine-grained combination of zonotopes with polyhedric domains such as the interval, octagon, linear templates or polyhedron domain. While abstract transfer functions are still rather inexpensive and accurate even for interpreting non-linear computations, we are able to also interpret tests (i.e. intersections) efficiently. This fixes a known drawback of zonotopic methods, as used for reachability analysis for hybrid sys- tems as well as for invariant generation in abstract interpretation: intersection of zonotopes are not always zonotopes, and there is not even a best zonotopic over-approximation of the intersection. We describe some examples and an im- plementation of our method in the APRON library, and discuss some further in- teresting combinations of zonotopes with non-linear or non-convex domains such as quadratic templates and maxplus polyhedra
