Testing LSND at long-baseline neutrino experiments
Recently it was suggested that two very different mass-squared differences
play a role in atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The larger of these also
accounts for the LSND result and the smaller of these also drives the solar
neutrino oscillations. We consider the predictions of this scheme for
long-baseline experiments. We find that high statistics experiments, such as
MINOS, can observe a clean signal for this scheme, which is clearly
distinguishable from the usual scheme of atmospheric neutrino oscillations
driven by a single mass-squared difference.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure
Nationalism in Rabindranath Tagore Plays
History reveals that institutions or artifacts produced by human beings can lead to the exploitation or the loss of freedom of other human beings. Thus the celebration of the good life of an Athenian citizen in Plato‟s time can hide the wretchedness of vast numbers of slaves whose labor made it possible for the few free citizens to enjoy that good life. Our criteria then must apply to all, or at least the vast majority of the vast of the human group concerned, if they are to lay claim to universality.
Amiya Kumar Bagchi, Perilous Passage1
The story of Indo-Anglican literature is the story of yesterday, of a little more than a century, and today. One of the natural results of the British rule in India is the rise and development of literature. The term “Indo-Anglican” was first used in 1883 when a book published in Calcutta that bore the title Indo-Anglian Literature.
The Dominance of Power in The Fire and the Rain
The play The Fire and the Rain occurs in a small region of India long ago that has experienced a lack of rain for ten years. The king proposed to propitiate the Gods through fire sacrifice. So that God would be pleased and send rain to the parched land. In this fire sacrifice Paravasu the son of a learned Brahmin Raibhya, was appointed as the Chief Priest. And the play deals with this appointment and the disappointments of certain other characters. One disappointment definitely with reference to the father going by ancient Indian tradition, a lot of emphasis was put on age seniority i.e. age has always been respected. Older people have always been considered wiser because of their wider experience. Going by this tradition the learned Raibhya should have been appointed as the chief Priest but for practical reasons longevity of life span, the King chose to appoint Paravasu, the elder son as the Chief Priest. This appointment had disappointed and agonized the senior. The high priest of the temple, Paravasu is eager to perform a ceremony to bring rain
Post Modernism and Post-colonialism in Joseph Conrad selected Novels: A Glimpse
Joseph Conrad (1857–1924), is one of those authors who considered the people of colonized countries as savages, barbarians and uncivilized that must be under the colonization and control of the civilized and superior countries like England. Among his works, Heart of Darkness (1899)—which is about a sea voyage upward the famous African Congo River toward the Congo Free State—is narrated by the first-person point of view narrator and protagonist named Marlow showing the intention and thoughts of the author about a colonized country. Consequently, the aim of this paper is to study the notion and concept of post-colonialism through the lights of the critics like Edward Said, Frantz Fanon, Gayatri Spivak and Achebe on Joseph Conrad’s novel named Heart of Darkness. As many other discourses, through the history literature paid one of its most important attentions to show and reveal such mentioned post-colonial characteristics and influences as well. Thus, an actual reader of literature can comprehend the fact that some authors are to be considered as defenders of colonizer countries while some others are on the opposite side and are the defenders of the colonized countries. The first group are called the agents of imperialism while the second group are the defendant of the colonized people
Kinetics and mechanism of oxidation of furfural by isonicotinium dichromate
The kinetics of oxidation of furfural by isonicotinium dichromate(INDC) has been studied in a 50% (v/v) acetic acid- water medium in the presence of perchloric acid at 303 K. The reaction is first order each in [isonicotinium dichromate],[furfural] and hydrogen ion concentration. The rate of oxidation increases with decrease in dielectric constant of solvent suggests ion-dipole interaction. Increase in ionic strength by the addition of sodium perchlorate has no effect on the rate constant. There is no polymerization with acrylonitrile and absence of free radical was proved.Furoic acid has been identified as the product of oxidation. The rate of the reaction has been conducted at fourdifferent temperatures and activation parameters werecalculated. From the observed kinetic results, a suitablemechanism with rate law has been proposed
Gas Chromatographic/Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Volatile Metabolites in Bovine Vaginal Fluid and Assessment of Their Bioactivity
The chemical
profiles of vaginal fluid collected from cows in
oestrus and nonoestrus were analysed by gas
chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)
to establish any qualitative differences that
might have potential value in bovine
biocommunication. Eight different organic
compounds were detected using the two
chromatograms. The chemical profiles of oestrus
vaginal fluid were distinguished significantly by
the presence of three specific substances, namely,
trimethylamine, acetic acid, and propionic acid
that were not present in nonoestrus phase. The
oestrus specific synthetic compounds were rubbed
onto the genital region of nonoestrus animals
(dummy cows), and the bulls were allowed to
sniff the genital region and observed sexual
behaviours. The statistical significance was
higher (P < 0.001) in bulls exhibiting repeated flehmen and mounting
behaviours towards the mixture of acetic acid, propionic acid, and
trimethylamine as compared to test these compounds separately. It was concluded that the volatile substances present in the bovine vaginal fluid during oestrus may act as chemical communicators
Transnational Identity of Assimilation and Assertion in Bharati Mukherjee Miss New India
This paper attempts to show the identity of Assimilation and Assertion of the female protagonist in Bharati Mukherjee\u27s latest novel Miss New India. Bharati Mukherjee is making a statement about her own experiences and observations on the issues faced as a woman in traditional Indian and foreign country by the medium of her female characters. The main purpose of this study is to focus on Assimilation and Assertion of the female character Anjali Bose, is in constant search of ways to escape the conservative environment of Gauripur, a small town in Bihar. It also discusses the women protagonist Anjali Bose is psychologically suppressed in the male-dominated society. While the male characters of her novels have received, more or less, enough attention the female characters seem to be marginalized by the critics who have discussed the female characters more in terms of their relation to the story\u27s male characters and analyzing the facets of oppression like sexuality, motherhood, mothering, and domestic labour. And it also discusses the number of questions related to trauma survivor and quest for Identity of the female characters who struggle to come out of the Attitude of Assimilation and Assertion
