Master's thesis in global studies. VID Specialized University, Stavanger, May 2018Norway as a host society in Scandinavia has experienced an unprecedented growth of immigrants in the last few years. This dramatic change accompanies various challenges that involve both the host nationals and immigrants as they encounter each other in daily life. This study focuses on the perspectives of ethnic Norwegians on how they relate and interact with new members of society, as they meet them in their daily lives. The study discusses three major perspectives that shed some light on the attitudes, perceptions and concrete steps that certain host nationals have undertaken in relation to immigrants which show the impact that their values and perspectives have on their relationships. The different perspectives signify both the barriers and bridges in the intercultural relationships.submittedVersionMV 17 S

One of the fundamental requirements for the quality of health services is the proper use and maintenance of technologies, such as medical-hospital equipment, since they affect safety and clinical results in the procedures in which they are used. In order to guarantee the safety and good performance of medical equipment, it is essential that, when promoting the management of this equipment, the institution understands the processes associated with clinical use. Low-power laser is a medical equipment used to prevent and treat injuries. It has specific safety requirements and high operational complexity that directly affect its performance. Previous studies on the use of low-power lasers show worrying results regarding their performance and the indiligence of users regarding the necessary control and safety measures. Thus, this dissertation conducted a case study in a large public university hospital in Brazil, analyzing the management and performance evaluation of the low-power laser. Initially, an empirical model of requirements for the management of low-power lasers was developed, using a sociotechnical approach to analyze the factors involved during the period of preparation and performance of an audit for accreditation by the Joint Commission International (JCI). The model comprises 20 requirements and can be applied in other health institutions worldwide to achieve success in managing low-power lasers and consequent compliance with the international accreditation requirements of JCI. Then, considering the importance of laser performance to guarantee treatments and the lack of studies in the literature on how to evaluate and promote the continuity of this performance, an optical power evaluation procedure was defined that considers the factors arising from the use of the laser that can impact performance, in addition to analyzing ways to reduce this impact. The empirical model of proposed requirements for low-power laser management and the performance evaluation procedure for this equipment, contribute to the continuous improvement of healthcare quality and the safety of patients and professionals involved in the process

Increasing Patient Accessibility to a Surgery Department Through Operations Management Principles

    No full text
This paper investigates how the application of operations management principles can be used to increase patients’ access to an inpatient care facility that supplies acute and non-acute care, in a Swedish University Hospital. This paper also identifies problems and solutions related to patient flow, as well as facilitators and barriers to implementation process. The study shows that patient accessibility can be increased by using operations management principles such as separated flows. The implementation was facilitated by short term gains, management support, and visible leadership. The barriers to implementation were identified as lack of operations management knowledge, deficiencies in improvement work and regulations

Annex_III_occurrence data.xlsx This Annex is an excel file presenting tables on occurrence data on nitrate and nitrite in feed. Nitrate Nitrite_OCC_ZENODO.CSV Contains the raw (no data cleaning applied to it) occurrence dataset on nitrate and nitrite as extracted from EFSA DWH on 03 December 2019 in feed samples presented in the opinion as described in its section 3.2.2. The data is provided in csv format. This dataset is compliant with EFSA SSD model and contains two additional columns documenting issues identified in the cleaning process (column: issue) and the action taken (column: action) to address the issue (e.g. delete record or update values in specific fields).Peer reviewe
