Stationary processes whose filtrations are standard

We study the standard property of the natural filtration associated to a 0--1 valued stationary process. In our main result we show that if the process has summable memory decay, then the associated filtration is standard. We prove it by coupling techniques. For a process whose associated filtration is standard, we construct a product type filtration extending it, based upon the usual couplings and the Vershik's criterion for standardness.Comment: Published at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/009117906000000151 in the Annals of Probability (http://www.imstat.org/aop/) by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (http://www.imstat.org

DETERMINANTS OF ARGENTINEAN WINE PRICES IN THE U.S. MARKET

    Get PDF
A hedonic price function for Argentinean wines in the U.S market is estimated in order to evaluate the effect of the most important attributes of wine on price. Results show that labeling practices and the choice of the right wine quality attributes are far more influential on price than expert panel opinions or oenological wine improvements such as aging.wine prices, Argentinean wine, hedonic price model, Demand and Price Analysis,

Hydrodynamic Aspects and Correlations for the Design of Draft-Tube Conical Spouted Beds

    Get PDF
A study has been carried out on the hydrodynamics of conical spouted beds with draft tube. Correlations have been proposed for calculating minimum spouting velocity, operating pressure drop and peak pressure drop as functions of dimensionless module that take into account geometric factors, particle characteristics and operating conditions

Vascular epiphytes represent 10% of the total vascular plants of the world. Nevertheless, because it is hard to reach them in the forest upper-canopy where they usually live, there are few studies (especially in Chile) about them. With the objective of identifying the vascular epiphytes growing on tree stems (under 1.5 m height), we sampled three transects in an Olivillo old-growth stand, in the Rucamanque forest, in the central valley of south-central Chile, near the city of Temuco. Several variables were measured for both the vascular epiphytes and their host-trees. We studied the floristic composition of the vascular epiphytes community, and their relationship with their host-trees, as well as their sociability, cover, and frequency. Eight vascular epiphytes species were identified, corresponding to four genus distributed in three families: Hymenophyllum and Hymenoglossum (Hymenophyllaceae), Asplenium (Aspleniaceae) and Sarmienta (Gesneriaceae). We found only a non-statistically significant linear correlation between vascular epiphytes and their host-trees. We determined that Hymenophyllum cuneatum was the most important vascular epiphytes species

Re-ordering connections: UK healthcare workers' experiences of emotion management during the COVID-19 pandemic

This paper examines the impact of disruptions to the organisation and delivery of healthcare services and efforts to re-order care through emotion management during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK. Framing care as an affective practice, studying healthcare workers' (HCWs) experiences enables better understanding of how interactions between staff, patients and families changed as a result of the pandemic. Using a rapid qualitative research methodology, we conducted interviews with frontline HCWs in two London hospitals during the peak of the first wave of the pandemic and sourced public accounts of HCWs' experiences of the pandemic from social media (YouTube and Twitter). We conducted framework analysis to identify key factors disrupting caring interactions. Fear of infection and the barriers of physical distancing acted to separate staff from patients and families, requiring new affective practices to repair connections. Witnessing suffering was distressing for staff, and providing a 'good death' for patients and communicating care to families was harder. In addition to caring for patients and families, HCWs cared for each other. Infection control measures were important for limiting the spread of COVID-19 but disrupted connections that were integral to care, generating new work to re-order interactions

    Get PDF
