GEN-O-MA project: an Italian network studying clinical course and pathogenic pathways of moyamoya disease—study protocol and preliminary results

    Get PDF
Background: GENetics of mOyaMoyA (GEN-O-MA) project is a multicenter observational study implemented in Italy aimed at creating a network of centers involved in moyamoya angiopathy (MA) care and research and at collecting a large series and bio-repository of MA patients, finally aimed at describing the disease phenotype and clinical course as well as at identifying biological or cellular markers for disease progression. The present paper resumes the most important study methodological issues and preliminary results. Methods: Nineteen centers are participating to the study. Patients with both bilateral and unilateral radiologically defined MA are included in the study. For each patient, detailed demographic and clinical as well as neuroimaging data are being collected. When available, biological samples (blood, DNA, CSF, middle cerebral artery samples) are being also collected for biological and cellular studies. Results: Ninety-eight patients (age of onset mean ± SD 35.5 ± 19.6 years; 68.4% females) have been collected so far. 65.3% of patients presented ischemic (50%) and haemorrhagic (15.3%) stroke. A higher female predominance concomitantly with a similar age of onset and clinical features to what was reported in previous studies on Western patients has been confirmed. Conclusion: An accurate and detailed clinical and neuroimaging classification represents the best strategy to provide the characterization of the disease phenotype and clinical course. The collection of a large number of biological samples will permit the identification of biological markers and genetic factors associated with the disease susceptibility in Italy

Effect of real temperature data on the seasonal coefficient of performance of air source heat pumps

    Get PDF
In this paper, a transient analysis is performed in order to evaluate how effective climate data affect the determination of the seasonal coefficient of performance of ASHPs. Three Italian cities, characterized by different climates, are considered as reference case studies and the influence of real meteorological data, collected from different years, on the heat pump SCOP is performed. The analysis is carried out by employing the dynamic software TRNSYS. Numerical results show small variations in SCOP, while a significant influence on annual thermal energy demand can be observed. The analysis also underlines the absence of a general correlation between annual thermal energy supplied by the heat pump and SCOP and between HDD and SCOP

Analysis of Online Conversations for Giving Sense to Sustainable Tourism in the Adriatic-Ionian Region

    Get PDF
The role of online conversation analysis on tourism and sustainability is underrated, especially in policymaking and management of sustainability of tourist destinations. The paper reports an analysis of online conversations retrieved from Twitter during the 2016 peak season, referring to four main destinations located in the Adriatic-Ionian region. The focus is analyzing the meaning of the expression “sustainable tourism” as emerging from online texting. Findings are that private users do not talk about sustainability and features of sustainable tourism while using Twitter, enforcing the idea that sustainable tourism has popular “meaning” and “appeal” possibly different from scientific approach. Users tell exclusively on leisure features of destinations, and public bodies neglect the opportunity of using Twitter for image building and web listening. Private companies, public administrators, and policymakers should benefit from the exposed procedures for online conversation analyses in designing and organizing their respective tasks. Researchers and destination managers would be also interested in the existing divide between official documents and statements on sustainability and sustainable tourism and reality of popular perception of the issue

Continuous Harmonics Analysis of Sea Level Measurements: Description of a new method to determine sea level measurement tidal component

    Get PDF
Removing the tidal component from sea level measurement in the case of Tropical Cyclones or Tsunami is very important to distinguish the tide contribution from the one of the Natural events. The report describes the methodology used by JRC in the de-tiding process and that is used for thousands of sea level measurement signals collected in the JRC Sea Level Database.JRC.E.1-Disaster Risk Managemen

eWom and sentiment analysis to support decision processes within maritime heritage museum networks. The case of Arca Adriatica

    Get PDF
Museum networks are proliferating in the Mediterranean area showing new forms of collaboration between public and private institutions. Museums and heritage conservation play a fundamental role in tourism development. The purpose of the present working paper is to provide an analysis of the museum network experience in order to define a set of useful and viable marketing strategies to be adopted by the museum management with respect to the relative tourist context. The case of the Arca Adriatica maritime museum network - a network of eight maritime museums representing the core asset of an elaborated tourist product - has been analyzed and considered particularly relevant and of peculiar interest. After the analysis of the museum network and its most important related points of interest, managerial recommendations within strategic and tactical perspectives are hence presented
