Nilai Spirometri Penderita Batuk Setelah Minum Seduhan Asam Jawa (Tamarindus Indica L.) Sebagai Obat Tradisional

Batuk merupakan gejala umum yang ditemukan dalam prevalensi cukup tinggi di Indonesia. Batuk dapat diobati dengan menggunakan obat modern maupun dengan ramuan tradisional yang diekstrak dari sumber alam. Asam Jawa (Tamarindus indica L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang buahnya telah diketahui bermanfaat meredakan batuk pada populasi Indonesia. Sebuah penelitian quasi telah dilakukan untuk mengkaji pengaruh dari seduhan asam Jawa terhadap performa pernapasan dari ibu penderita batuk. Delapan puluh orang wanita tidak hamil, yang terdiri dari 40 wanita penderita batuk dan 40 wanita sehat di Kabupaten Aceh Besar terlibat dalam penelitian ini. Subjek dipilih dengan menggunakan non-random sampling dan diberikan 500 ml seduhan asam Jawa yang dipersiapkan dari 21, 18 and 15 g daging buah asam Jawa dua kali sehari selama tiga hari berturut-turut. Peningkatan performa pernapasan dari setiap subjek dianalisis dengan membandingkan nilai spirometri subjek tersebut sebelum dan setelah minum seduhan asam Jawa terhadap control. Sebagai kesimpulan, minum seduhan asam Jawa secara teratur dapat meningkatkan performa respirasi ibu tidak hamil penderita batuk di Kabupaten Aceh Besar.Cough is a common symptom found in appreciable prevalence in our community. It can be treated using modern prescriptions or using traditional medicines extracted from natural sources. Tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) is one of plants in which the fruit has been known its benefits to relief cough in Indonesia populations. A quasi experimental study design was employed to investigate effects of tamarind infusion on the respiratory performance of mothers suffering from cough. Eighty non-pregnant women consisting of 40 women suffering from cough and 40 healthy with no cough women in the Regency of Great Aceh were involved in the study. They were selected using non-random sampling and treated with 500 ml tamarind infusion prepared from 21, 18 and 15 g meat of tamarind fruits twice a day for three consecutive days. Respiratory improvement of each subject was analysed by comparing spirometric value of subjects before and after taking tamarind infusion versus control. In conclusion, regular drinking of tamarind infusion can improve respiratory performance of non-pregnant mothers suffering from cough

THE EFFECT OF MODEL PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL)

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of PBL models of science process skills (PPP) and the understanding of the concept of chemical substances in food at eighth grade students MTsN Meureudu. This study is a descriptive study using the research design one group pretest and posttest design. Samples were 19 eighth grade students MTsN Meureudu school year 2013/2014. Data collected by pretest and posttest to determine the effect of the application of PBL models and observation sheets to determine the feasibility of learning. The results showed that affects the application of PBL model of PPP and understanding the concept of chemical substances in food MTsN Meureudu eighth grade students. The influence can be seen from the results of hypothesis testing, the value is significantly smaller than α (0.05). In addition, the ability of a class VIII student representation MTsN Meureudu after application of PBL models on chemical substances in food material for the better. Students’ Mathematical Communication Ability and Self-Efficacy using Team Quiz Learning Model

This research aims to examine the improvement of mathematical communication skills of the students who learn using the team quiz learning model. This is an experimental research with pretest-posttest-control group design. The population of this study is all of the seventh-grade students in one of the junior high schools in Banda Aceh. We use a simple random sampling technique to obtain two classes as the research samples. The data were collected using tests of mathematical communication skills and self-efficacy questionnaires. The statistical tests used in this study were the paired t-test and two-way ANOVA. The results show that: (1) The improvement of the students’ mathematical communication ability in the team quiz class is higher than the conventional class; (2) The improvement of the students’ self-efficacy in team quiz class is higher than the conventional class; (3) There is no interaction between the learning model and the student level towards the students' mathematical communication ability; and (4) There is no interaction between the learning model and the student level towards the students’ self-efficacy

THE ANALYSIS OF PROPORTIONAL REASONING PROBLEM IN THE INDONESIAN MATHEMATICS TEXTBOOK FOR THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

The lack of Indonesian students achievement in the international assessment is due to several factors. Students are not familiar with the problems requiring reasoning, in particular the proportional reasoning. This research aims to identify the distribution and the Level of Cognitive Demands (LCD) of the proportional reasoning problems found in the Year 7 and Year 8 mathematics textbooks based on the 2013 curriculum (revised edition 2014). The data collection was conducted by identifying the proportional reasoning problems found in the whole chapters of the textbooks which are then analysed and classified using the Smiths and Stein’s criteria of LCD (1998). The results reveal that the proportional reasoning problems were only found in the three of 17 chapters namely ratio and proportion, rectangle and triangle, and Pythagorean Theorem, which represent different LCD including Lower-LCD (Low-M and Low-P) and Higher-LCD (High-P). Out of 69 proportional reasoning problem found in the textbooks, the percentage of higher-LCD problems (n=29 ; 42.03%) is less than lower-LCD (n=40;57.97%). In addition, the higher-LCD problems found were only the high-P type. None was found to meet the requirement of High-DM demanding students to conduct ‘doing mathematics’, complex approach and self-monitoring or self regulation of students’ cognitive process. It is recommended that the proportional reasoning problems, including some High-DM problems, should be provided in each topic in Indonesian mathematics textbooks.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.22342/jme.9.1.4145.55-6

PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN INQUIRI BERBASIS PRAKTIKUM UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PENGUASAAN KONSEP DAN KETERAMPILAN BERPIKIR KRITIS SISWA KELAS X SMAN 2 MEUREUDU PADA MATERI RANGKAIAN LISTRIK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan penguasaan konsep dan keterampilan berpikir kritis pada materi rangkaian listrik setelah siswa belajar melalui model pembelajaran inquiri berbasis praktikum. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen melalui nonequivalent pretest-postest control group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 2 Meureudu. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan berpikir kritis, lembar kerja siswa, Lembar observasi dan angket. Hasil olah data yang digunakan dengan uji N-gain keterampilan berpikir kritis diperoleh persentase nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen sebesar 76,7% termasuk kategori tinggi dan kelas kontrol sebesar 65,9% termasuk kategori sedang. Hasil penelitian di peroleh rata-rata N-gain penguasaan konsep kelas eksperimen sebesar 73% termasuk kategori tertinggi pada subkonsep rangkaian hambatan dan untuk kelas kontrol diperoleh sebesar 68% termasuk kategori sedang. Penggunaan model pembelajaran inquiri berbasis praktikum memberi tanggapan yang positif, karena sangat membantu siswa dalam berpikir kritis, sehingga siswa lebih cenderung bertanya, membuat kesimpulan dan membuat hipotesis. Model pembelajaran inquiri berbasis praktikum secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep dan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa

Students' Thinking Style in Analyzing Physics Concept Through the Kinametic Graphics

Students' thinking style is influential in learning outcomes, but teachers have not yet focused on the teaching and learning process, resulting in students having difficulties in receiving the material, especially in the study of analyzing physical concepts through graphs on the concept of kinematics. Therefore, knowing the student's thinking style especially for the physics teacher is a very important effort to achieve teaching success. This study aims to determine the students' thinking style in analyzing physical concepts through graphs on kinematics concepts. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with a type of descriptive research. Subjects in this study were students of class X Mipa1 and X Mipa2. Data collection instruments in this study were questionnaire, observation and documentation. The questionnaire used was in the form of a closed questionnaire adapted from the Quantum Learning book written by Bobbi DePorter and Mike Hernacki,  The results of this study indicated that the concrete sequential thinking style (S1) was 27 %, abstract sequential thinking style (S2) was 14%, random abstract (A1) was 34%, concrete random thinking style (A2) was 25%
