The public health, and the hospitals in particular, face up to the challenge to provide more and better medical care in rising costs and restrictive budgets environment. It is necessary an information system based on reliable and available information which let make decissions in order to optimize the poor resources, to obtain greater efficiency of health care and assure quality of care. This paper describes the core of this information system, the Hospital Discharge Minimum Data Set, which becomes the standard of hospital information systems by their aplications as management information system and information retrieval system. The Minimum Basic Data Set (MBDS) is a hospital information system of demographic type that has been developed in the National Health System (NHS) for over more than 25 years. The present study analyzes its evolution from its beginnings to latest version called the Register of Specialized Health Care (RSH-MBDS). This new model standardizing all activity at specialized level, both in hospitalization and ambulatory care in public and private sector, allowing to know about the operation of hospitals, care activity, pathologies treated, complexity and clinical approach and the costs involved. Clinical-administrative records, as is the case of RSH-MBDS, are a great opportunity for the exploitation of massive health data or big data, with the aim of being able to know in advance the incidence of diseases, their management and the different healthcare outcomes, in the entire NHS, as a separately or compared by hospitals or health centers. If the forecasts for the next years are fulfilled, large-scale data management could improve decision-making efficiency in the planning, evaluation and development of health systems, becoming the RSH-MBDS in the most relevant data source for the management of services, knowledge of the population health and epidemiological research

Regional Virtual Health Libraries in Spain: where are we and where should we be going to?

    Get PDF
In line with the technological developments and the increasing access to the Internet, and after the health competences transfer, almost all Autonomous Communities (ACs) created virtual health sciences libraries which provide access to electronic resources and offer librarian services to the professionals of the health service. The creation of the virtual libraries has not followed common patters in all ACs and today, we can appreciate different organizational designs of the virtual libraries in health sciences in the ACs. However, all of them should offer a minimum of resources and services to ensure the equity in the access to relevant information needed for clinical decision making, which will has a direct impact on the quality of health care

The European higher education is immersed in an ineludible process of evolution in the than her the teaching competition of the professionals of teaching acquires a new relevance. Codes of Good Teaching Practices they constitute a good exponent of the permeability of the universities to the concept of corporate social responsibility, in as much as they project that than each the university proposes like competitive value and I eat referent formative of your professionals. The objective of this work is showing the process of planning and design of Good Code teaching practices developed at the University of Saragossa by the professors of the area of Library and Information science in the awarding of title willingly in Information, intervening knowledge and measure of your opinion on a set of factors directly related with the quality of your teaching activity. The theoretic referential frame is the competitive concept teacher established by Zabalza Beraza for the university teaching staff, as well as your analysis of them capacities, knowledge and skillful actions that characterize it. The material is described with attention to detail and method used, as well as the analysis of the data obtained, that they allow being enough, I eat main result, a Code of Good Teaching Practices, in the one that are picked up a set of recommendations guided when incrementing development of noncontentious stocks whose purpose is her quality of the teaching activity of the professors that they subscribe it. Between the findings stand out her appropriateness of the designed instrument to guide the learning-teaching processes

Errors in search strategies used in systematic reviews and their effects on information retrieval

Objectives: Errors in search strategies negatively affect the quality and validity of systematic reviews. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate searches performed in MEDLINE/PubMed to identify errors and determine their effects on information retrieval. Methods: A PubMed search was conducted using the systematic review filter to identify articles that were published in January of 2018. Systematic reviews or meta-analyses were selected from a systematic search for literature containing reproducible and explicit search strategies in MEDLINE/PubMed. Data were extracted from these studies related to ten types of errors and to the terms and phrases search modes. Results: The study included 137 systematic reviews in which the number of search strategies containing some type of error was very high (92.7%). Errors that affected recall were the most frequent (78.1%), and the most common search errors involved missing terms in both natural language and controlled language and those related to Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) search terms and the non-retrieval of their more specific terms. Conclusions: To improve the quality of searches and avoid errors, it is essential to plan the search strategy carefully, which includes consulting the MeSH database to identify the concepts and choose all appropriate terms, both descriptors and synonyms, and combining search techniques in the free-text and controlled-language fields, truncating the terms appropriately to retrieve all their variants

Size and spatial and functional structure of aggregate daily mobility networks in functional urban areas: Integrating adjacent spaces at several scales

People's daily movements, as aggregated in spatial units, shape mobility flows that can be modelled by geospatial networks. The structure of these networks both reflects and influences how cities are lived in, perceived and planned. In this study, location tracking data from mobile phones were used to investigate the functional and spatial structures of daily mobility networks and how these networks change as they grow in size. A case study was performed on 81 Spanish functional Urban Areas (FUAs). The results of this study show that the friction of the space and the average length of the aggregate daily mobility are constant and do not depend on the area and demographic size of the FUAs. The average length of the aggregate daily mobility is associated with the increase in complexity that occurs as mobility networks grow, which is reflected in an increase in the number of levels of interaction and the proportion of local flows that integrate adjacent spaces across different scales. The method used provides quantitative indicators that reveal the similarities and differences of daily mobility, as well as the interactions that occur in FUAs according to their size. This information is very useful in urban and mobility planning

Good practices in the declaration of orphan works in Europe. Analysis of European projects with orphan works declared.

This study presents an analysis of the European projects of preservation and digitisation of the cultural heritage that, as an example of good practices, have been the origin of the declaration of orphan works. For this purpose, the public information avail-able in the records of the Orphan Works Database of the Observatory of the Intellectual Property Office of the European Union (EUIPO) is established as the primary source for the identification of projects. First, the data of the 2,041 records exported from the database are analysed and normalized. Next, different rankings and indicators are established. Finally, the 43 projects identified are presented and a qualitative and descriptive analysis is realized, based on the consultation of the public information available online and the contacts established with some of those responsible

The document head contains information on the primary data of each accessible resource in Internet. The registration system and the distributed database that contains a union catalogue of the resources of Internet is analyzed. (Autor
