A ring in a shell: the large-scale 6D structure of the Vela OB2 complex
The Vela OB2 association is a group of 10 Myr stars exhibiting a complex
spatial and kinematic substructure. The all-sky Gaia DR2 catalogue contains
proper motions, parallaxes (a proxy for distance) and photometry that allow us
to separate the various components of Vela OB2. We characterise the
distribution of the Vela OB2 stars on a large spatial scale, and study its
internal kinematics and dynamic history. We make use of Gaia DR2 astrometry and
published Gaia-ESO Survey data. We apply an unsupervised classification
algorithm to determine groups of stars with common proper motions and
parallaxes. We find that the association is made up of a number of small
groups, with a total current mass over 2330 Msun. The three-dimensional
distribution of these young stars trace the edge of the gas and dust structure
known as the IRAS Vela Shell across 180 pc and shows clear signs of expansion.
We propose a common history for Vela OB2 and the IRAS Vela Shell. The event
that caused the expansion of the shell happened before the Vela OB2 stars
formed, imprinted the expansion in the gas the stars formed from, and most

Molecules in the transition disk orbiting T Cha
We seek to establish the presence and properties of gas in the circumstellar
disk orbiting T Cha, a nearby (d~110 pc), relatively evolved (age ~5-7 Myr) yet
actively accreting 1.5 Msun T Tauri star. We used the APEX 12 m radiotelescope
to search for submillimeter molecular emission from the T Cha disk, and we
reanalyzed archival XMM-Newton spectroscopy of T Cha to ascertain the
intervening absorption due to disk gas along the line of sight to the star
(N_H). We detected submillimeter rotational transitions of 12CO, 13CO, HCN, CN
and HCO+ from the T Cha disk. The 12CO line appears to display a double-peaked
line profile indicative of Keplerian rotation. Analysis of the CO emission line
data indicates that the disk around T Cha has a mass (M_disk,H_2 = 80 M_earth)
similar to, but more compact (R_disk, CO~80 AU) than, other nearby, evolved
molecular disks (e.g. V4046 Sgr, TW Hya, MP Mus) in which cold molecular gas
has been previously detected. The HCO+/13CO and HCN/13CO, line ratios measured
for T Cha appear similar to those of other evolved circumstellar disks (i.e. TW
Hya and V4046 Sgr), while the CN/13CO ratio appears somewhat weaker. Analysis
of the XMM-Newton data shows that the atomic absorption toward T Cha is
1-2 orders of magnitude larger than toward the other nearby T Tauri with
evolved disks. Furthermore, the ratio between atomic absorption and optical
extinction N_H/A_V toward T Cha is higher than the typical value observed for
the interstellar medium and young stellar objects in the Orion Nebula Cluster.
This may suggest that the fraction of metals in the disk gas is higher than in
the interstellar medium. Our results confirm that pre-main sequence stars older
than ~5 Myr, when accreting, retain cold molecular disks, and that those
relatively evolved disks display similar physical and chemical properties.Comment: Accepted for publication on A&
Intrapancreatic accessory spleen false positive to 68Ga-Dotatoc: case report and literature review
Background: Intrapancreatic accessory spleen (IPAS) is an uncommon finding of pancreatic mass. Differential diagnosis with pancreatic tumor, especially with non-functional neuroendocrine tumor (NF-NET), may be very hard and sometimes it entails unnecessary surgery. A combination of CT scan, MRI, and nuclear medicine can confirm the diagnosis of IPAS. 68-Ga-Dotatoc PET/CT is the gold standard in NET diagnosis and it can allow to distinguish between IPAS and NET. Case presentation: A 69-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for an incidental nodule in the tail of the pancreas with focal uptake of 68-Ga-dotatate at PET/CT. NET was suspected and open distal splenopancreatectomy was performed. Pathologic examination revealed an IPAS. Conclusion: This is the second IPAS case in which a positive 68Ga-Dotatoc uptake led to a false diagnosis of pancreatic NET. Here is a proposal of a literature review
Search for periodicities near 59 s in the COS-B gamma-ray data of 2CG195+04 (Geminga)
The COS-B data relating to five observations in the general direction of Geminga, spanning 6.7 years, were searched for pulsation near 59 s. The SAS-2 indication is not confirmed. An indication of a 59 s pulsation in the gamma ray emission from 2CG195+04 (Geminga) was reported. Early analysis of COS-B data supported the result while later improved statistics did not confirm it. Subsequently, detection of a 59 s pulsation in the emission from the direction of Geminga at ultra high gamma and X-rays was reported. Geminga was identified with the X-ray source 1E0630+128. The final COS-B data on Geminga which was observed five times for a total of 214 days are reported
Analysis of nonlinear poro-elastic and poro-visco-elastic models
We consider the initial and boundary value problem for a system of partial differential equations describing the motion of a fluid–solid mixture under the assumption of full saturation. The ability of the fluid phase to flow within the solid skeleton is described by the permeability tensor, which is assumed here to be a multiple of the identity and to depend nonlinearly on the volumetric solid strain. In particular, we study the problem of the existence of weak solutions in bounded domains, accounting for non-zero volumetric and boundary forcing terms. We investigate the influence of viscoelasticity on the solution functional setting and on the regularity requirements for the forcing terms. The theoretical analysis shows that different time regularity requirements are needed for the volumetric source of linear momentum and the boundary source of traction depending on whether or not viscoelasticity is present. The theoretical results are further investigated via numerical simulations based on a novel dual mixed hybridized finite element discretization. When the data are sufficiently regular, the simulations show that the solutions satisfy the energy estimates predicted by the theoretical analysis. Interestingly, the simulations also show that, in the purely elastic case, the Darcy velocity and the related fluid energy might become unbounded if indeed the data do not enjoy the time regularity required by the theory
