    Coupled optical interface modes in a Fibonacci dielectric superlattice

    The coupled optical interface modes in a Fibonacci dielectric superlattice are studied. In the dielectric continuum approximation, the dispersion relation is found to have two bands of dual triadic Cantor structures, each being nonuniform scaling. For most of the eigenfrequencies, the amplitude profiles of electrostatic potential in this quasiperiodic structure are critical. Moreover, an invariant is analytically derived and is used to describe the general features of the frequency spectra and potential profiles.published_or_final_versio

    Persistent currents in mesoscopic Fibonacci rings

    In the framework of a tight-binding model, we study energy spectra and persistent currents in mesoscopic Fibonacci rings threaded by a magnetic flux. It is found that the flux-dependent electron eigenenergies E(Φ) in mesoscopic Fibonacci rings still form "bands" with respect to the flux Φ, but there is a scaling relation between the total "bandwidth" and the Fibonacci number. When the strength of the one-dimensional quasiperiodic potential increases, the persistent current decreases rapidly. Interestingly, for a generalized mixing model of mesoscopic Fibonacci rings, free-electron-like persistent current may appear if the number of electrons of the system takes a specific value.published_or_final_versio

    Quantum waveguide theory of serial stub structures

    The electronic behaviors in quantum wires with serial stubs are studied. A general theory of quantum waveguide based on transfer matrix method is developed and is used to treat periodic stub structures, serial stub structures with a defect stub, and Fibonacci stub structures. A number of interesting physical properties in connection with electronic transmission, energy spectra, and charge density distributions in these structures, are found theoretically. In particular, we find that whether there are periodicity and symmetry in the transmission and energy spectra depends on the commensurability of the length parameters. If one length ratio is incommensurate, then the transmission and energy spectra do not exhibit periodicity and symmetry even for periodic stub structures. In particular, the quasiperiodic behaviors are shown in Fibonacci stub structures proposed by us whenever the length parameters are commensurate.     Munc13 binds and recruits SNAP25 to chaperone SNARE complex assembly

    Synaptic vesicle fusion is mediated by SNARE proteins—VAMP2 on the vesicle and Syntaxin‐1/SNAP25 on the presynaptic membrane. Chaperones Munc18‐1 and Munc13‐1 cooperatively catalyze SNARE assembly via an intermediate ‘template’ complex containing Syntaxin‐1 and VAMP2. How SNAP25 enters this reaction remains a mystery. Here, we report that Munc13‐1 recruits SNAP25 to initiate the ternary SNARE complex assembly by direct binding, as judged by bulk FRET spectroscopy and single‐molecule optical tweezer studies. Detailed structure–function analyses show that the binding is mediated by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain and is specific for the SNAP25 ‘linker’ region that connects the two SNARE motifs. Consequently, freely diffusing SNAP25 molecules on phospholipid bilayers are concentrated and bound in ~ 1 : 1 stoichiometry by the self‐assembled Munc13‐1 nanoclusters

    Acoustic black holes for relativistic fluids

    We derive a new acoustic black hole metric from the Abelian Higgs model. In the non-relativistic limit, while the Abelian Higgs model becomes the Ginzburg-Landau model, the metric reduces to an ordinary Unruh type. We investigate the possibility of using (type I and II) superconductors as the acoustic black holes. We propose to realize experimental acoustic black holes by using spiral vortices solutions from the Navier-stokes equation in the non-relativistic classical fluids.Comment: 16 pages. typos corrected, contents expande

    Resonances in J/ψϕπ+πJ/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K\phi K^+K^-

    A partial wave analysis is presented of J/ψϕπ+πJ/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K\phi K^+K^- from a sample of 58M J/ψJ/\psi events in the BES II detector. The f0(980)f_0(980) is observed clearly in both sets of data, and parameters of the Flatt\' e formula are determined accurately: M=965±8M = 965 \pm 8 (stat) ±6\pm 6 (syst) MeV/c2^2, g1=165±10±15g_1 = 165 \pm 10 \pm 15 MeV/c2^2, g2/g1=4.21±0.25±0.21g_2/g_1 = 4.21 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.21. The ϕππ\phi \pi \pi data also exhibit a strong ππ\pi \pi peak centred at M=1335M = 1335 MeV/c2^2. It may be fitted with f2(1270)f_2(1270) and a dominant 0+0^+ signal made from f0(1370)f_0(1370) interfering with a smaller f0(1500)f_0(1500) component. There is evidence that the f0(1370)f_0(1370) signal is resonant, from interference with f2(1270)f_2(1270). There is also a state in ππ\pi \pi with M=179030+40M = 1790 ^{+40}_{-30} MeV/c2^2 and Γ=27030+60\Gamma = 270 ^{+60}_{-30} MeV/c2^2; spin 0 is preferred over spin 2. This state, f0(1790)f_0(1790), is distinct from f0(1710)f_0(1710). The ϕKKˉ\phi K\bar K data contain a strong peak due to f2(1525)f_2'(1525). A shoulder on its upper side may be fitted by interference between f0(1500)f_0(1500) and f0(1710)f_0(1710).Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Submitted to Phys. Lett.

    First Measurements of eta_c Decaying into K^+K^-2(pi^+pi^-) and 3(pi^+pi^-)

    The decays of eta_c to K^+K^-2(pi^+pi^-) and 3(pi^+pi^-) are observed for the first time using a sample of 5.8X10^7 J/\psi events collected by the BESII detector. The product branching fractions are determined to be B(J/\psi-->gamma eta_c)*B(eta_c-->K^+K^-pi^+pi^-pi^+pi^-)=(1.21+-0.32+- 0.23)X10^{-4},B(J/ψ>gammaetac)B(etac>K0Kˉ0pi+pi)=(1.29+0.43+0.32)X104,B(J/\psi-->gamma eta_c)*B(eta_c-->K^{*0}\bar{K}^{*0}pi^+pi^-)= (1.29+-0.43+-0.32)X10^{-4}, and (J/\psi-->gamma eta_c)* B(eta_c-->pi^+pi^-pi^+pi^-pi^+pi^-)= (2.59+-0.32+-0.48)X10^{-4}. The upper limit for eta_c-->phi pi^+pi^-pi^+pi^- is also obtained as B(J/\psi-->gamma eta_c)*B(eta_c--> phi pi^+pi^-pi^+pi^-)< 6.03 X10^{-5} at the 90% confidence level.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
