Poverty, Inequality and Social Policies in Brazil, 1995-2009

Since the mid-1990s, Brazil has undergone extensive reforms that have finally reversed the dismaying economic performance of the 1980s. In particular, poverty and inequality indicators have improved dramatically, especially since the late-2000s. This paper provides an overview of such recent trends and discusses the role played by four major government interventions: public education, the minimum wage law, Social Security pensions and Social Assistance transfers. By the end of the first decade of the 21st century, the most usual international depiction of Brazil is that of a burgeoning, upcoming country. Although in many ways frankly exaggerated, this marks a stark contrast with a not-so-distant past. This turnaround has had a lot to do with favourable international circumstances, but it also owes a lot to extensive reforms that made possible something that was almost unprecedented in Brazil: pro-poor growth. On multifractals: a non-linear study of actigraphy data

This work aimed, to determine the characteristics of activity series from fractal geometry concepts application, in addition to evaluate the possibility of identifying individuals with fibromyalgia. Activity level data were collected from 27 healthy subjects and 27 fibromyalgia patients, with the use of clock-like devices equipped with accelerometers, for about four weeks, all day long. The activity series were evaluated through fractal and multifractal methods. Hurst exponent analysis exhibited values according to other studies ($H>0.5$) for both groups ($H=0.98\pm0.04$ for healthy subjects and $H=0.97\pm0.03$ for fibromyalgia patients), however, it is not possible to distinguish between the two groups by such analysis. Activity time series also exhibited a multifractal pattern. A paired analysis of the spectra indices for the sleep and awake states revealed differences between healthy subjects and fibromyalgia patients. The individuals feature differences between awake and sleep states, having statistically significant differences for $\alpha_{q-} - \alpha_{0}$ in healthy subjects ($p = 0.014$) and $D_{0}$ for patients with fibromyalgia ($p = 0.013$). The approach has proven to be an option on the characterisation of such kind of signals and was able to differ between both healthy and fibromyalgia groups. O Argumento do Milagre comete a Falácia da Taxa-base? Apresentação, Estado da Arte e Questões de Formalização

Objetivamos discutir a crítica, avançada por Colin Howson em Hume's problem, segundo a qual o argumento do milagre (doravante, AM) comete a falácia da taxa-base. Por falácia da taxa-base, entende-se a negligência do valor da probabilidade prévia de determinada hipótese ou teoria T, P(T). Por sua vez, em uma de suas versões, AM assere que apenas assumindo que uma teoria científica madura T é aproximadamente verdadeira não faz de seu sucesso preditivo um milagre. Formalizado probabilisticamente, Howson argumenta que a conclusão de AM, a probabilidade de que a teoria T seja aproximadamente verdadeira é grande, apenas se segue se assumirmos para T um valor não-negligenciável. Tal crítica de Howson despertou duas categorias de reação na literatura especializada: supondo que AM comete a falácia da taxa base, alguns autores propuseram abandonar AM enquanto um argumento para a tese epistemológica do realismo científico, ao passo que outros defenderam que apenas uma versão de AM comete a falácia da taxa-base; defendendo que AM não comete a falácia da taxa base, certos autores alegaram alguns problemas na formalização probabilística de AM, enquanto outros buscaram refinar tal formalização de modo que a nova evite a falácia em questão. Tendo apresentado esse estado da arte, investigaremos se a formalização probabilística do argumento do milagre é razoável. Discutiremos se ela acomoda a natureza de inferência à melhor explicação pressuposta no AM. Por fim, indicaremos, brevemente, algumas dificuldades para a crítica de Howson ao assumir-se que AM instancia, na verdade, uma abdução Peirceana

O presente trabalho analisa a estrutura narrativa do romance "O tambor" ("Die Blechtrommel") de Günter Grass e do filme homônimo dirigido por Volker Schlöndorff, observando a forma como o romancista articula a construção complexa de seu foco narrativo e como o cineasta trabalha essa estrutura em seu filme, o que resulta em diferentes formas de perceber e interpretar tanto o narradorpersonagem quanto o universo no qual está inserido, levando em consideração que a discussão sobre adaptações de obras literárias em realizações cinematográficas já passou da discussão moralizante da fidelidade ou traição para uma discussão menos valorativa. O artigo enfatiza o estudo da intertextualidade entre a adaptação cinematográfica e o romance original, tendo como pontos de observação o tipo de seleção feita no processo da realização fílmica, a concretização visual do texto literário, a atualização de determinados temas abordados na obra e o foco narrativo, por exemplo.The purpose of this work is to analyze the narrative structure of the novel by Günter Grass "Die Blechtrommel", and the film with the same title, by Volker Schlöndorff, observing, on the one hand, the way the writer articulates the construction of his narrative point of view and, on the other hand, how the movie maker builds the structure of his film, which then results in different ways of perception and interpretation on the part of the character-narrator and the universe of which he is part. The article emphasizes the intertextual relationship between the film adaptation and the original novel, focusing on the selection of elements for the filmic process and for turning the visual aspects of the literary text concrete.Diese Arbeit beabsichtigt, die narrative Struktur des Romans "Die Blechtrommel" von Günter Grass und die des gleichnamigen Filmes von Volker Schlöndorff zu analysieren, um dabei zu beobachten, wie der Autor die komplexe Erzählsituation artikuliert und wie der Regisseur diese Struktur in seinem Film bearbeitet, was zu unterschiedlichen Wahrnehmungen und Interpretationen der Erzählfigur und ihres Universums führt. Es wird berücksichtigt, dass die Diskussion um die filmische Umsetzung literarischer Werke inzwischen das moralistische Gebiet der "Treue" oder des "Verrates" verlassen hat und zu einer weniger wertenden Diskussion übergegangen ist. Dies führte zu einer Fokussierung auf die Intertextualität zwischen dem adaptierten Film und dem ursprünglichen Roman, die als Beobachtungspunkte z.B. die Auswahl untersucht, die während des Prozesses der filmischen Herstellung gemacht wurde, wie auch die visuelle Verkörperung des literatischen Textes und die Aktualisierung mancher im Werk angesprochenen Themen und der Erzählsituation

Application of Overall Equipment Effectiveness in a Winery

From a holistic view on the process, it was intended to evaluate the performance of the equipment used in the wine production process. This action was based on the need to make the process more efficient, reducing variations in the availability, quality and performance of the local machinery. Thus, it was discussed, together with the company's management, the gains that could be obtained through the application of OEE in the local productive process

Integrating the Hoshin Kanri and Key Performance Indicators approach into the industry

The management of the multinational beverage industry, of French origin, decided to implement a more effective policy to manage and execute its strategy. The change in management was due to the difficulties in achieving goals derived from the company's strategy. It was decided, therefore, to apply the strategic management model proposed by Hoshin Kanri and thus align functions and activities with the most important strategic objectives of the organization. At first, with the adoption of punctual actions, it was possible to notice changes in all levels of the organization. However, it was noted at the operational level greater resilience in change management. To minimize this effect, periodic clarification meetings are held with "shop floor" personnel and doubts are addressed, improving communication and alignment among organizational levels. With 4 months of implementation of practices that meet the expectation of better management, in general, the achievement of registered and accumulated goals improved by approximately 15%. It is expected to reach at least a 50% advance by the month of December.

Contribuições de Paulo Freire e Jörn Rüsen para o Ensino de História

Trabalho realizado sob orientação da professora Juliana Franzi e coorientação do professor Tiago Costa Sanches, como requisito para a obtenção do diploma de Licenciado em História pela Universidade Federal da Integração Latino AmericanaA atual conjuntura política do Brasil, marcada por uma constante manipulação de informações e distorção do ensino de História, explicita a necessária busca de ferramentas de conscientização por meio de uma pedagogia latino-americana e da Didática da História. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho assume como suporte teórico as obras de Paulo Freire e os conceitos de Didática da História e consciência histórica do filósofo e historiador Jörn Rüsen. O objetivo que orientou a realização da investigação foi o de identificar e analisar as contribuições de ambos os autores para o ensino de História. Com base em uma pesquisa bibliográfica, o resultado do trabalho revela que, a despeito de serem teorias cuja gênese encontra-se em campos de conhecimentos distintos, elas possuem certos pontos de aproximação e apresentam grande potencialidade no sentido de aportar para o ensino de História.La situación política actual en Brasil, marcada por una manipulación constante de la información y la distorsión de la enseñanza de la historia, hace explícita la búsqueda necesaria de herramientas de sensibilización a través de una pedagogía y didáctica de la historia latinoamericana. En este contexto, el presente trabajo asume como soporte teórico los trabajos de Paulo Freire y los conceptos de Didáctica de la Historia y conciencia histórica del filósofo e historiador Jorn Rüsen. El objetivo que guió la investigación fue identificar y analizar las contribuciones de ambos autores a la enseñanza de la historia.
