Even though study concerning Islam and politics has been conducted by many researchers, few of them investigating about compatibility of Islamic political thoughts, which originated from the classical and medieval periods that have been influencing Islamic political movements and thoughts in Indonesia, with Indonesian context. Thoughts of Imam al-Mawardi (lived in the 12th Century) and Taqiyuddin al-Nabhani (lived in the 20th Century) are some of them that should be mentioned in this regard. Islamic political thoughts of al-Mawardi become the main reference for Sunni Muslims who are majority in Indonesia, while Islamic political thought of al-Nabhani become the main guidance of HTI (Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia) movement of which its members and followers are many in Indonesia. This article investigates about the political thoughts of al-Mawardi and al-Nabhani concerning the relationship between Islam and state as well as their compatibility with Indonesian context. This study uses the library research in which its primary resources are books written by al-Mawardi entitled Al-Ahkam al-Sulthaniyah and al-Nabhani entitled Ad-Daulah al-Islamiyah. By utilizing qualitative content analysis, data were collected and analyzed. This article argues that the Islamic political thought of al-Mawardi has been adopted by majority of Indonesian Sunni Muslims with some adjustments with Indonesian context, so that his thoughts become compatible with the concept of modern nation-state of Indonesia.  On the other side, Islamic political thought of al-Nabhani which developed within a spirit of resistance to Western (European) colonialism has been adopted and campaigned by HTI without adjustment with Indonesian context. This causes al-Nabhani’s thought clashes with the concept of modern nation-state of Indonesia.

    Get PDF

Application of artificial neural networks in fall prediction

    No full text
The problem of fall is still unsolved even though it is a serious problem, especially in group of elderly. Also, another difficulty is to analyse falls that occur in day-to-day life. Those events are hard to observe by specialists and so it is hard to analyse them. Following work contains a description of experimental process for external force-caused fall observation with the use of motion capture system and dynamometric platforms. Data collected according to this protocol were later used for time series neural networks. Obtained results of analysis were compared to popular model of human stability. Conducted inquiry proves that it is possible to detect fall even before it occurs and while it is external force-caused fall the loss of stability develops earlier than it was assumed

A 36-year-old woman pregnant, G2 P1, presented at 27 weeks of gestation after two previous visits elsewhere, as an outpatient in a gynecological clinic. An ultrasound examination revealed bilateral hydronephrosis. Also, ureteral dilation and bladder overdistension was present (Figures 1-3). We evaluated that the cause was a urinary tract obstruction. Specifically, we are dealing with posterior urethral valves. The anteroposterior diameter of the pelvis on a transverse view of the abdomen was 6 mm. The amniotic fluid index (AFI) was 3 cm, so, oligohydramnios

[Migrant populations at the Hopital de l'Enfance of Lausanne (HEL): evaluation inquiry, taking care and contribution of cultural mediators-translators]

The number of patients belonging to migrant populations who consult Lausanne's Hopital de l'Enfance (HEL) has increased massively in an exponential manner. HEL is a facility dedicated to children with a vocation of public health and training in a university setting and it has to make a point of developing an adequate and pertinent health care system for these populations. In order to do this, a study was undertaken in the form of a prospective survey including over a thousand ambulatory patients. Administrative data (origin, date of migration, nature of the permit and legal situation), social data (home language, professional situation, number of siblings), medical (diagnosis) and psychosomatic data (sleep, enuresis) was recorded as well as data testing the level of understanding between carrier and patient. The study allowed us to define priorities of intervention: introduction of a service of translators--cultural mediators trained by the association "Appartenances" (as well as on going follow-up and assessment of this service), training of health care workers in the fields of cultural mediation and the different aspects of migrant population medicine and, finally, the creation of a steering group within the Institution. Having allowed rapid and spectacular improvement in the quality of the service provided by the HEL, this process is also included in the will to improve health care given to migrant populations at local and national levels in accordance with the priorities defined by the WHO in this domain. It is this experience which is reported in this paper

The Sustainable and Entrepreneurial Park? Contradictions and Persistent Antagonisms at Sydney's Olympic Park

    No full text
Urban parks have long been used by policy makers to achieve specific policy goals. In recent years, two sets of policy goals have become commonly associated with park planning. The first set of goals can be characterized as being neoliberal, where parks have been built and reformed to generate certain economic and governmental outcomes. The second set of policy goals is associated with sustainability, where parks have been utilized as tools in such things as the mitigation of climate change and community building. The aim of this paper is to examine how these two sets of policy goals have come to coexist. The paper draws upon the case study of Sydney Olympic Park, a self-proclaimed exemplar of both entrepreneurial urban development and sustainability. The paper traces out the functional and institutional changes at the Park in order to read the relationship between neoliberal and sustainability policy goals. While predictable inconsistencies are found between the two sets of policy goals, the paper argues in conclusion that their contradictions have not generated a necessity to resolve their antagonistic relations. © 2013 Taylor & Francis
