    Labyrinthine pathways towards supercycle attractors in unimodal maps

    We uncover previously unknown properties of the family of periodic superstable cycles in unimodal maps characterized each by a Lyapunov exponent that diverges to minus infinity. Amongst the main novel properties are the following: i) The basins of attraction for the phases of the cycles develop fractal boundaries of increasing complexity as the period-doubling structure advances towards the transition to chaos. ii) The fractal boundaries, formed by the preimages of the repellor, display hierarchical structures organized according to exponential clusterings that manifest in the dynamics as sensitivity to the final state and transient chaos. iii) There is a functional composition renormalization group (RG) fixed-point map associated to the family of supercycles. iv) This map is given in closed form by the same kind of qq-exponential function found for both the pitchfork and tangent bifurcation attractors. v) There is a final stage ultra-fast dynamics towards the attractor with a sensitivity to initial conditions that decreases as an exponential of an exponential of time.Comment: 8 pages, 13 figure

    Glueball-glueball scattering in a constituent gluon model

    In this work we use a mapping technique to derive in the context of a constituent gluon model an effective Hamiltonian that involves explicit gluon degrees of freedom. We study glueballs with two gluons using the Fock-Tani formalism. In the present work we consider two possibilities for 0++0^{++}: (i) as a pure ssˉs\bar{s} and calculate, in the context of a quark interchange picture, the cross-section; (ii) as a glueball where a new calculation for this cross-section is made, in the context of the constituent gluon model, with gluon interchange.Comment: Proceedings of the International Workshop IX Hadron Physics and VII Relativistic Aspects of Nuclear Physics (HADRON-RANP 2004

    Emergence of skyrmion lattices and bimerons in chiral magnetic thin films with nonmagnetic impurities

    Skyrmions are topologically protected field structures with particlelike characteristics that play important roles in several areas of science. Recently, skyrmions have been directly observed in chiral magnets. Here, we investigate the effects of pointlike nonmagnetic impurities on the distinct initial states (random or helical ones) and on the formation of the skyrmion crystal in a discrete lattice. Using Monte Carlo techniques, we have found that even a small percentage of spin vacancies present in the chiral magnetic thin film considerably affects the skyrmion order. The main effects of impurities are somewhat similar to thermal effects. The presence of these spin vacancies also induces the formation of bimerons in both the helical and skyrmion states. We also investigate how adjacent impurities forming a hole affect the skyrmion crystal

    Nonextensive Quantum H-Theorem

    A proof of the quantum HH-theorem taking into account nonextensive effects on the quantum entropy SqQS^Q_q is shown. The positiveness of the time variation of SqQS^Q_q combined with a duality transformation implies that the nonextensive parameter qq lies in the interval [0,2]. It is also shown that the equilibrium states are described by quantum qq-power law extensions of the Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein distributions. Such results reduce to the standard ones in the extensive limit, thereby showing that the nonextensive entropic framework can be harmonized with the quantum distributions contained in the quantum statistics theory.Comment: 5 pages, LaTe

    Scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) of ornamental plants from Sao Carlos, Sao Paulo, Brazil

    A list of 35 scale insects collected from 72 ornamental plant species in Sao Carlos, Sao Paulo, Brazil is provided. Regarding host specificity, 30 scale insects were polyphagous, 4 oligophagous, and 1 monophagous. A total of 102 coccoid/plant associations are recorded, 29 of which are new host records for the species; 60 are new host records for the species in Brazil. Pulvinaria urbicola Cockerell, 1893 (Coccidae), Phenacoccus similis Granara de Willink, 1983 (Pseudococcidae), and Orthezia molinarii (Morrison, 1952) (Ortheziidae) are recorded for the first time in Brazil.
