Perturbation theory vs. simulation for tadpole improvement factors in pure gauge theories
We calculate the mean link in Landau gauge for Wilson and improved SU(3)
anisotropic gauge actions, using two loop perturbation theory and Monte Carlo
simulation employing an accelerated Langevin algorithm. Twisted boundary
conditions are employed, with a twist in all four lattice directions
considerably improving the (Fourier accelerated) convergence to an improved
lattice Landau gauge. Two loop perturbation theory is seen to predict the mean
link extremely well even into the region of commonly simulated gauge couplings
and so can be used remove the need for numerical tuning of self-consistent
tadpole improvement factors. A three loop perturbative coefficient is inferred
from the simulations and is found to be small. We show that finite size effects
are small and argue likewise for (lattice) Gribov copies and double Dirac
sheets.Comment: 13 pages of revtex
Substrate-controlled allotropic phases and growth orientation of TiO2 epitaxial thin films
International audienceTiO2 thin films were grown by pulsed laser deposition on a wide variety of oxide single-crystal substrates and characterized in detail by four-circle X-ray diffraction. Films grown at 873 K on (100)-oriented SrTiO3 and LaAlO3 were (001)-oriented anatase, while on (100) MgO they were (100)-oriented. On (110) SrTiO3 and MgO, (102) anatase was observed. On M-plane and R-plane sapphire, (001)- and (101)-oriented rutile films were obtained, respectively. On C-plane sapphire, the coexistence of (001) anatase, (112) anatase and (100) rutile was found; increasing the deposition temperature tended to increase the rutile proportion. Similarly, films grown at 973 K on (100) and (110) MgO showed the emergence, besides anatase, of (110) rutile. All these films were epitaxically grown, as shown by ' scans and/or pole figures, and the various observed orientations were explained on the basis of misfit considerations and interface arrangement
Process mining meets abstract interpretation
The discovery of process models out of system traces is an interesting problem that has received significant attention in the last years. In this work, a theory for the derivation of a Petri net from a set of traces is presented. The method is based on the theory of abstract interpretation, which has been applied successfully in other areas. The principal application of the theory presented is Process Mining, an area that tries to incorporate the use of formal models both in the design and use of information systems.Postprint (published version
Extramedullary plasmacytoma in a captive collared peccary (Pecari tajacu)
Abstract: An extramedullary plasmacytoma case in a captive collared peccary (Pecari tajacu) is reported. The animal, a female aging three years old, had a medical history of diffusely distributed skin and mucocutaneous junction lesions, associated with swollen lymph nodes. Clinical examination and complementary exams (complete blood count, biochemical analysis, skin scraping to search mites and fungal culture) were performed. Thirty days after examination, the animal died. At necropsy, multiple consistent nodules, aseptic pustules and swollen lymph nodes were found. On histological exams of the skin and oral mucosa, we observed a large number of round cells forming masses organized in nests, sheets, and cords of cells in a well-vascularized fibrovascular tissue. Neoplastic plasma cells infiltrated between the fibers and the lamina propria of smooth muscle. Spaces among the cell masses were filled with some eosinophil and fluid. Most of the cells were well differentiated, presenting a perinuclear clear zone. In some points, the cells were pleomorphic. The plasma cells presented eccentric, basophilic and spherical nuclei, showing a dense to organized chromatin with distinct nucleoli. Binucleate cells were observed, but multinucleated giant cells were rare. Oral mucosa and lymph nodes tested by immunohistochemical analyses were positive for Mb-1, with a multifocal distribution. In regard to Bcl-2, the neoplastic cells were intermittent weakly positive. So, an extramedullary plasmacytoma was diagnosed in the collared peccary considering the location, the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings
Distribution and biological role of the oligopeptide-binding protein (OppA) in Xanthomonas species
In this study we investigated the prevalence of the oppA gene, encoding the oligopeptide binding protein (OppA) of the major bacterial oligopeptide uptake system (Opp), in different species of the genus Xanthomonas. The oppA gene was detected in two Xanthomonas axonopodis strains among eight tested Xanthomonas species. The generation of an isogenic oppA-knockout derivative of the Xac 306 strain, showed that the OppA protein neither plays a relevant role in oligopeptide uptake nor contributes to the infectivity and multiplication of the bacterial strain in leaves of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) and Rangpur lime (Citrus limonia). Taken together these results suggest that the oppA gene has a recent evolutionary history in the genus and does not contribute in the physiology or pathogenesis of X. axonopodis
