ENGLISH: This article is a critical survey of the work that Cornelio Desimoni, a very versatile historian, dedicated to the middle ages during the period between 1859 and 1896. Apart from proffering precise comments, analyses of single documents, reviews of texts on various subjects and compiling the ponderous annals of his birth town (Gavi), Desimoni repeatedly tackled an important theme in political-territorial history: the marches and their development in Italy as from the 9th century. This latter accomplishment, which produced mature results for the time, was favoured by his competence in jurisprudence

Competitiveness and the Logistics Performance Index: The ANOVA method application for Africa, Asia, and the EU regions

Abstract This paper analyses the impact of strategic sub-components of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) on the Logistics Performance Index (LPI). As a hypothesis, it is assumed that there is a relationship between the LPI and selected factors in GCI, which were grouped into three clusters: infrastructure, human factor, and institutions. The purpose is to investigate which of those groups has the most significant impact on the LPI - an interactive comparative analysis tool created by the World Bank that addresses logistics issues in a broad context against world regions' development or countries' economies. For this purpose, the LPI was used as the dependent variable, while a linear regression model measured some GCI components' influence. The study was conducted for Africa, Asia, and the EU, employing the ANOVA method. The paper finds the three clusters are related to higher efficiency. While the new method shows these clusters are essential for improving the logistics performance index, an extensive range of factors might affect logistics sector performance in both geography and stage of development. In Europe, human factor is far more critical for progressively improving the LPI, while necessary infrastructure remains crucial in Asia. All three factors are central to Africa's logistics development

Diagnosis and treatment of headache probably attributed to cerebral venous sinus thrombosis

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a rare condition whose most common and sometimes only symptom is headache. Alas, diagnosis and treatment of CVST is often delayed or overlooked because of its high clinical variability. Using guidelines advices in detecting warning signs or symptoms of secondary headaches might ease the diagnosis of CVST.The article presents the case of a woman who is in treatment for chronic migraine and assessed for secondary headache in a multidisciplinary outpatient headache program. Alert symptoms like sudden worsening headache presentation, along with anamnestic cues, prompted neuroimaging that detected left transverse sinus thrombosis whose onset was difficult to date

Assessing the photovoltaic potential of flat roofs: insights from the analysis of optimised array arrangements

PV installations on flat roofs offer a wide range of design options, which are usually neglected in urban-scale assessments as these typically assume horizontal or other fixed arrangements. In this study, we analyse the influence of common design parameters (tilt and inter-row distance) in evaluating the potential of PV arrays installed on flat roofs, using three different performance indicators. By comparing optimised arrangements to horizontal ones, we show that the latter could be misleading, unless building- and indicator-specific correction coefficients are applied.Postprint (published version
