“WE ARE SATISFIED!” - A Sermon for the Commemoration of St Philip
(excerpt) Each time that I gather around this table in preparation to leave this Liturgical Institute, I feel the way I imagine Philip felt at that other table, when Jesus prepared to leave the disciples to return to God. After these days of inspiring addresses, stimulating conversations, cherished comradery, and glorious worship, like Philip, I want to squeeze out just a little more before everything comes to an end. Give me just one more conversation with someone who understands what paschal mystery means. Just once more let me join my voice with people unafraid to sing a new hymn. Just give me one more shiver up my spine as the Spirit blows through an assembly that understands celebrating Word and Sacrament to be the center of its being and not an addendum. Just once more, and I will be satisfied
How Baptism Doesn\u27t Form Us: Why We Seek Other Ways to Grow The Church
What if we don’t want to entrust the Church to Jesus because Jesus might have some dying and rising in mind? Could it be that we desire to be formed in ways other than the ways the triune God active in baptism forms us? Is it possible that the Church born from the font is not the Church we want? And so, we seek other ways of forming and growing the Church so that we won’t ever die.
Baptism will form the Church in ways we don’t want to be formed. Allow me to share six ways: (1) giving up on growing; (2) promoting patience; (3) serving the Holy Spirit; (4) worshiping wondrously; (5) behaving differently; and (6) speaking of Jesus

The Hutterites and Their Agriculture: 100 years in South Dakota
The South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station has published five reports over the last 20 years on the communal farms of the Hutterite Brethren in South Dakota. The present report provides an update. Its material comes from a 1974 field survey in which the leaders in all the Hutterite colonies in South Dakota were interviewed for population and agricultural information. Also included are revisions and additions to general information on Hutterite life and colony organization
The Hutterites: A Study in Cultural Diversity
This research signifies an on-going interest in the Hutterite culture represented by more than 30 years of study by staff members of the Department of Rural Sociology at South Dakota State University. This study was conducted through surveys and numerous visits to many of the South Dakota colonies during the summer and fall of 1992. Having been involved in previous department studies of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, I welcomed the opportunity to return to the field and renew acquaintances with many fine people who seek nothing more than understanding
