Manipulation of the dynamics of many-body systems via quantum control methods

We investigate how dynamical decoupling methods may be used to manipulate the time evolution of quantum many-body systems. These methods consist of sequences of external control operations designed to induce a desired dynamics. The systems considered for the analysis are one-dimensional spin-1/2 models, which, according to the parameters of the Hamiltonian, may be in the integrable or non-integrable limits, and in the gapped or gapless phases. We show that an appropriate control sequence may lead a chaotic chain to evolve as an integrable chain and a system in the gapless phase to behave as a system in the gapped phase. A key ingredient for the control schemes developed here is the possibility to use, in the same sequence, different time intervals between control operations.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

GeMs/GSAOI observations of La Serena 94: an old and far open cluster inside the solar circle

Physical properties were derived for the candidate open cluster La Serena 94, recently unveiled by the VVV collaboration. Thanks to the exquisite angular resolution provided by GeMS/GSAOI, we could characterize this system in detail, for the first time, with deep photometry in JHKs_{s} - bands. Decontaminated JHKs_{s} diagrams reach about 5 mag below the cluster turnoff in H. The locus of red clump giants in the colour - colour diagram, together with an extinction law, was used to obtain an average extinction of AV=14.18±0.71A_V =14.18 \pm 0.71. The same stars were considered as standard - candles to derive the cluster distance, 8.5±1.08.5 \pm 1.0 kpc. Isochrones were matched to the cluster colour - magnitude diagrams to determine its age, logt(yr)=9.12±0.06\log{t(yr)}=9.12\pm 0.06, and metallicity, Z=0.02±0.01Z=0.02\pm0.01. A core radius of rc=0.51±0.04r_{c}=0.51\pm 0.04 pc was found by fitting King models to the radial density profile. By adding up the visible stellar mass to an extrapolated mass function, the cluster mass was estimated as M=(2.65±0.57)×103M=(2.65\pm0.57) \times 10^3 M_{\odot}, consistent with an integrated magnitude of MK=5.82±0.16M_{K}=-5.82\pm0.16 and a tidal radius of rt=17.2±2.1r_{t}=17.2\pm2.1 pc. The overall characteristics of La Serena 94 confirm that it is an old open cluster located in the Crux spiral arm towards the fourth Galactic quadrant and distant 7.30±0.497.30\pm 0.49 kpc from the Galactic centre. The cluster distorted structure, mass segregation and age indicate that it is a dynamically evolved stellar system.Comment: 16 pages, 24 figures, 2 Tables, accepted by MNRAS; corrected typo

Social Dilemmas and Cooperation in Complex Networks

In this paper we extend the investigation of cooperation in some classical evolutionary games on populations were the network of interactions among individuals is of the scale-free type. We show that the update rule, the payoff computation and, to some extent the timing of the operations, have a marked influence on the transient dynamics and on the amount of cooperation that can be established at equilibrium. We also study the dynamical behavior of the populations and their evolutionary stability.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures. to appea

Ising Spin Glass in a Transverse Magnetic Field

We study the three-dimensional quantum Ising spin glass in a transverse magnetic field following the evolution of the bond probability distribution under Renormalisation Group transformations. The phase diagram (critical temperature TcT_c {\em vs} transverse field Γ\Gamma) we obtain shows a finite slope near T=0T=0, in contrast with the infinite slope for the pure case. Our results compare very well with the experimental data recently obtained for the dipolar Ising spin glass LiHo0.167_{0.167}Y0.833_{0.833}F4_4, in a transverse field. This indicates that this system is more apropriately described by a model with short range interactions than by an equivalent Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model in a transverse field.Comment: 7 pages, RevTeX3, Nota Cientifica PUC-Rio 23/9

    Correlation-Strength Driven Anderson Metal-Insulator Transition

    Get PDF
The possibility of driving an Anderson metal-insulator transition in the presence of scale-free disorder by changing the correlation exponent is numerically investigated. We calculate the localization length for quasi-one-dimensional systems at fixed energy and fixed disorder strength using a standard transfer matrix method. From a finite-size scaling analysis we extract the critical correlation exponent and the critical exponent characterizing the phase transition.Comment: 3 pages; 2 figure

Towards robotic process automation implementation: an end-to-end perspective

    Get PDF
Purpose: Robotic process automation (RPA) seeks to automate business processes, using software robots that interact with systems through their user interface, improving efficiency and reducing costs. However, some critical steps, such as identifying processes suitable for RPA automation, can have a tremendous impact in organizations if a wrong process is selected. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to provide an approach for analyzing RPA development in business organizations. Design/methodology/approach: This research presents a cohesive literature review about RPA, in order to identify RPA main concepts, which should be reported and considered in all RPA case studies. A model connecting the main elicited RPA concepts is presented as well as its evaluation and applicability grounded of past RPA case study (CS) analysis, using design science research. Findings: The results from this research show that most of the RPA main concepts gathered in the literature review are not reported in the selected RPA CSs. Originality/value: As RPA is a recent topic, literature lacks a synthetization of RPA main topics. This research aims to fill the gap on that, by identifying and synthesize the main topics related to RPA and proposing a model that connects the main RPA concepts, which can be used by researchers as a schema for conducting and writing RPA case studies.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
