Relating color discrimination to photopigment genes in deutan observers

    Get PDF
AbstractDeutan observers are a heterogeneous group, varying nearly continuously from deuteranomalous trichromats with fine chromatic discrimination in the red/green range to deuteranopes who have none. We sought to relate chromatic discriminative ability among deutans measured psychophysically (phenotypes) to observers' separation between long-wave visual pigments inferred from visual pigment genes (genotypes). If middle-wave pigment genes are assumed not to be expressed in these deutan observers there is a clear relation between phenotype and genotype

Does the enhancement observed in γγDDˉ\gamma\gamma\to D\bar{D} contain two PP-wave higher charmonia?

Solved is a new puzzle raised by the observation of an enhancement structure Z(3930) in γγDDˉ\gamma\gamma\to D\bar{D}. If categorizing Z(3930) as χc2(2P)\chi_{c2}(2P) suggested by Belle and BaBar, we must explain why χc0(2P)\chi_{c0}(2P) dominantly decaying into DDˉD\bar{D} is missing in the DDˉD\bar{D} invariant mass spectrum. In this work, we propose that the Z(3930) enhancement structure may contain two PP-wave higher charmonia {χc0(2P)\chi_{c0}(2P)} and χc2(2P)\chi_{c2}(2P). We show that this assumption is supported by our analysis of the DDˉD\bar{D} invariant mass spectrum and cosθ\cos\theta^\ast distribution of γγDDˉ\gamma\gamma\to D\bar{D}. This observation would not only provide valuable information of two P-wave higher charmonia χc0(2P)\chi_{c0}(2P) and χc2(2P)\chi_{c2}(2P), but also serve as the crucial test of our novel proposal to the observed enhancement structure Z(3930), especially at the forthcoming BelleII and the approved SuperB.Comment: 5 pages, 2 tables, 3 figures. Understanding the newly observed Y(4008) by Belle

Very recently a new enhancement around 4.05 GeV was observed by Belle experiment. In this short note, we discuss some possible assignments for this enhancement, i.e. ψ(3S)\psi(3S) and DDˉD^*\bar{D}^* molecular state. In these two assignments, Y(4008) can decay into J/ψπ0π0J/\psi\pi^0\pi^0 with comparable branching ratio with that of Y(4008)J/ψπ+πY(4008)\to J/\psi\pi^+\pi^-. Thus one suggests high energy experimentalists to look for Y(4008) in J/ψπ0π0J/\psi\pi^0\pi^0 channel. Furthermore one proposes further experiments to search missing channel DDˉD\bar{D}, DDˉ+h.c.D\bar{D}^*+h.c. and especially χcJπ+ππ0\chi_{cJ}\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 and ηcπ+ππ0\eta_c\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0, which will be helpful to distinguish ψ(3S)\psi(3S) and DDˉD^*\bar{D}^* molecular state assignments for this new enhancement.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Transport Measurements on Nano-engineered Two Dimensional Superconducting Wire Networks

Superconducting triangular Nb wire networks with high normal-state resistance are fabricated by using a negative tone hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) resist. Robust magnetoresistance oscillations are observed up to high magnetic fields and maintained at low temperatures, due to the eective reduction of wire dimensions. Well-defined dips appear at integral and rational values (1/2, 1/3, 1/4) of the reduced flux f = Phi/Phi_0, which is the first observation in the triangular wire networks. These results are well consistent with theoretical calculations for the reduced critical temperature as a function of f.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

The open-charm radiative and pionic decays of molecular charmonium Y(4274)

In this work, we investigate the decay widths and the line shapes of the open-charm radiative and pionic decays of Y(4274) with the DsDˉs0(2317)D_s\bar{D}_{s0}(2317) molecular charmonium assignment. Our calculation indicates that the decay widths of Y(4274)Ds+DsγY(4274)\to D^{+}_{s}D^{*-}_{s}\gamma and Y(4274)Ds+Dsπ0Y(4274)\to D^+_{s}D^-_{s}\pi^0 can reach up to 0.05 keV and 0.75 keV, respectively. In addition, the result of the line shape of the photon spectrum of Y(4274)Ds+DsγY(4274)\to D_s^+ {D}_s^{*-} \gamma shows that there exists a very sharp peak near the large end point of photon energy. The line shape of the pion spectrum of Y(4274)Ds+Dsπ0Y(4274)\to D_s^+ {D}_s^{*-} \pi^0 is similar to that of the pion spectrum of Y(4274)Ds+DsγY(4274)\to D_s^+ {D}_s^{*-} \gamma, where we also find a very sharp peak near the large end point of pion energy. According to our calculation, we suggest further experiments to carry out the search for the open-charm radiative and pionic decays of Y(4274).Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Published versio

Stability of the Minimal Heterotic Standard Model Bundle

    Get PDF
The observable sector of the "minimal heterotic standard model" has precisely the matter spectrum of the MSSM: three families of quarks and leptons, each with a right-handed neutrino, and one Higgs-Higgs conjugate pair. In this paper, it is explicitly proven that the SU(4) holomorphic vector bundle leading to the MSSM spectrum in the observable sector is slope-stable.Comment: LaTeX, 19 page

Neutral top-pion and lepton flavor violating processes

In the context of topcolor-assisted techicolor(TC2) models, we study the contributions of the neutral top-pion πt0\pi^{0}_{t} to the lepton flavor violating(LFV) processes liljγl_{i}\to l_{j}\gamma and liljlklll_{i}\to l_{j}l_{k}l_{l}. We find that the present experimental bound on μeγ\mu\to e\gamma gives severe constraints on the free parameters of TC2TC2 models. Taking into account these constraints, we consider the processes liljlklll_{i}\to l_{j}l_{k}l_{l} generated by top-pion exchange at the tree-level and the one loop level, and obtain Br(μ3e)2.87×1014Br(\mu\to 3e)\simeq 2.87\times 10^{-14}, 1.1×1015Br(τ3e)Br(τ2eμ)4.4×10151.1\times 10^{-15}\leq Br(\tau\to 3e)\simeq Br(\tau\to 2e\mu)\leq 4.4 \times 10^{-15} , 3.1×1015Br(τ2μe)Br(τ3μ)1.5×10143.1\times 10^{-15} \leq Br(\tau\to 2\mu e)\simeq Br(\tau\to 3\mu)\leq 1.5 \times 10^{-14} in most of the parameter space.Comment: latex files,16 pages, 6 figures. Relation Between Chiral Susceptibility and Solutions of Gap Equation in Nambu--Jona-Lasinio Model

    Get PDF
We study the solutions of the gap equation, the thermodynamic potential and the chiral susceptibility in and beyond the chiral limit at finite chemical potential in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. We give an explicit relation between the chiral susceptibility and the thermodynamic potential in the NJL model. We find that the chiral susceptibility is a quantity being able to represent the furcation of the solutions of the gap equation and the concavo-convexity of the thermodynamic potential in NJL model. It indicates that the chiral susceptibility can identify the stable state and the possibility of the chiral phase transition in NJL model.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, misprints are correcte

Analysis of the radiative decays among the charmonium states

In this article, we study the radiative decays among the charmonium states with the heavy quark effective theory, and make predictions for the ratios among the radiative decay widths of an special multiplet to another multiplet. The predictions can be confronted with the experimental data in the future and put additional constraints in identifying the XX, YY, ZZ charmonium-like mesons.Comment: 12 pages, revised revisio

The spectrum of BPS branes on a noncompact Calabi-Yau

    Get PDF
We begin the study of the spectrum of BPS branes and its variation on lines of marginal stability on O_P^2(-3), a Calabi-Yau ALE space asymptotic to C^3/Z_3. We show how to get the complete spectrum near the large volume limit and near the orbifold point, and find a striking similarity between the descriptions of holomorphic bundles and BPS branes in these two limits. We use these results to develop a general picture of the spectrum. We also suggest a generalization of some of the ideas to the quintic Calabi-Yau.Comment: harvmac, 45 pp. (v2: added references
