Antiferromagnetic interactions in single crystalline Zn1-xCoxO thin films
In a rather contradictory situation regarding magnetic data on Co-doped ZnO,
we have succeeded in fabricating high-quality single crystalline Zn1-xCoxO
(x=0.003-0.07) thin films. This gives us the possibility, for the first time,
to examine the it intrinsic magnetic properties of ZnO:Co at a quantitative
level and therefore to address several unsolved problems, the major one being

New root endophytic water borne conidial fungi from Kumaun Himalaya
Water borne conidial fungi occurring in living roots of healthy plant growing in the wet and ravine areas of Dogaon and Ramgarh, Nainital, Kumaun Himalaya (India) were isolated as root endophytes. A total of 15 species (Alatospora acuminata, Anguillospora longissima, Beltrania rhombica, Campylospora chaetocladia, Claviriopsis aquatica, Cylindrocarpon aquaticum, Flagellospora penicilloides, Helicomyces roseus, Helicosporium lumbricoides, Pleurophragmium sonum, Pestalotiopsis submersus, Seridium sp, Setosynnema isthomosporum, Tetrachaetum elegans and Tetracladium marchalianum) of endophytic aquatic fungus were recovered as root endophytes of various host plants. Three species viz. Helicosporium lumbricoides, Pleurophragmium sonum and Setosynnema isthomosporum isolated from the roots of pteridophytes and grasses were found as new root endophytes. Among the studied host plants five plant species were also found as new hosts
Bioactivity of Root Endophytic Freshwater Hyphomycetes Anguillospora longissima
Anguillospora longissima, isolated from root as endophytic freshwater hyphomycetes, was evaluated for its bioactivity (antibacterial potential) against five bacterial strains, namely, Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis MTCC 121) and Gram-negative (Agrobacterium tumefaciens MTCC 609, Escherichia coli MTCC 40, Erwinia chrysanthemum, and Xanthomonas pseudomonas). Antimicrobial activity was assessed by measuring the zone of inhibition with preliminary and secondary antimicrobial assays. The applied fungus was found significant for all tested bacterial strains as showen by their zone of inhibition. In preliminary antimicrobial assay, maximum zone of inhibition was recorded against Gram-negative human pathogenic bacterial strain Escherichia coli (23âmm) followed by Erwinia chrysanthemi (22âmm), Agrobacterium tumefaciens (21âmm), and Xanthomonas phaseoli (21âmm), while minimum zone of inhibition was observed against Bacillus subtilis (20âmm). In secondary antimicrobial assay, the maximum zone of inhibition was recorded against Erwinia chrysanthemi (11âmm) followed by Agrobacterium tumefaciens (10âmm), Xanthomonas phaseoli (10âmm), and Bacillus subtilis (9âmm) and minimum inhibition was found against Escherichia coli (8âmm)
Antibacterial Activities of Ginkgo biloba L. Leaf Extracts
The antibacterial activity of methanol, ethanol, chloroform, and hexane extracts of the leaves of Himalayan gymnospermous plant Ginkgo biloba L. was assessed against five animal and plant pathogenic strains (Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Erwinia chrysanthemi, and Xanthomonas phaseoli) employing disc-diffusion and broth-dilution assays. The methanol extract showed the highest activity (zone of inhibition of 15â21âmm) followed by ethanol (14â19âmm), chloroform (15â20âmm), and hexane (14â19âmm) extracts at 250âÎŒg/mL. A minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 7.8âÎŒg/mL was found for the methanol extract against most of the pathogens tested
Twisted topological structures related to M-branes II: Twisted Wu and Wu^c structures
Studying the topological aspects of M-branes in M-theory leads to various
structures related to Wu classes. First we interpret Wu classes themselves as
twisted classes and then define twisted notions of Wu structures. These
generalize many known structures, including Pin^- structures, twisted Spin
structures in the sense of Distler-Freed-Moore, Wu-twisted differential
cocycles appearing in the work of Belov-Moore, as well as ones introduced by
the author, such as twisted Membrane and twisted String^c structures. In
addition, we introduce Wu^c structures, which generalize Pin^c structures, as
well as their twisted versions. We show how these structures generalize and
encode the usual structures defined via Stiefel-Whitney classes.Comment: 20 page
Magnetic Anisotropy of Co2+ as Signature of Intrinsic Ferromagnetism in ZnO:Co
We report on the magnetic properties of thoroughly characterized Zn1-xCoxO
epitaxial thin films, with low Co concentration, x=0.003-0.005. Magnetic and
EPR measurements, combined with crystal field theory, reveal that isolated Co2+
ions in ZnO possess a strong single ion anisotropy which leads to an "easy
plane" ferromagnetic state when the ferromagnetic Co-Co interaction is
considered. We suggest that the peculiarities of the magnetization process of
this state can be viewed as a signature of intrinsic ferromagnetism in ZnO:Co

For a split, simply connected, semisimple Lie group of rank

Iwasawa coordinates of using the Chevalley generators and the Steinberg
presentation. When is a scalar coset for a supergravity theory in
dimensions , we determine the action of the integral form
on . We give explicit results for the action of the
discrete --duality groups and on the
scalar cosets and
for type IIB supergravity
in ten dimensions and 11--dimensional supergravity in dimensions,
respectively. For the former, we use this to determine the discrete U--duality
transformations on the scalar sector in the Borel gauge and we describe the
discrete symmetries of the dyonic charge lattice. We determine the
spectrum--generating symmetry group for fundamental BPS solitons of type IIB
supergravity in dimensions at the classical level and we propose an
analog of this symmetry at the quantum level. We indicate how our methods can
be used to study the orbits of discrete U--duality groups in general
